Chapter 52: Chapter 52

Chapter 52 Questions

PAMELA'S POV

I felt the world stop along with my heartbeat.

The beast was right in front of me and ready to devour me the moment I made any movement.

'Don't breathe, Pamela. Don't breathe. Stay still,' I kept telling myself as if it was a mantra that would keep me alive.

The beast was heaving as its chest was going up and down, sniffing my scent along. I realized I was trembling so hard that if it had not been for the wall behind me, I would have collapsed on the floor right away. My knees shook with fear.

"Lucius, calm down. Listen to my voice. You don't want to do this. Focus on my voice, Lucius. Focus on my voice." I heard Neal trying to pacify the beast.

Or was I hallucinating? Did he just call that demonic-looking beast Lucius?

As much as I wanted to confirm if what I heard was right, I dared not move a single inch. When the beast's face moved closer to my face and looked like it was about to devour me, I shut my eyes tight, waiting for my end to come. A couple of seconds passed, and I felt nothing.

'Am I dead? Was that it?' I asked myself, my eyes still closed.

I almost yelped when I felt someone touched my shoulders. I shuddered in fear, thinking it was the beast. Only to realize it was not.

"It's okay now, Lady Pamela. You are okay." I heard him say.

I slowly opened my eyes and saw Neal standing in front of him while the guards were chaining the beast behind him. My eyes widened at the scene that was before me. I was about to ask him how they could control the beast when I saw a piece of clothing on the floor and, by the looks of it; it belonged to that she-wolf.

'Wait! If they could calm this beast down with that she-wolf's cloth, does that mean this beast is Lucius? No, no, no, no, it can't be. Lucius is not a monster.'

My thoughts were going crazy with everything that was happening.

"Lady Pamela, are you hurt?" Neal asked, pulling me away from my thoughts.

I shook my head frantically as I gathered my strength to utter the word. "No."

"Let me accompany you back to your quarters then," he said, earning my full attention.

"No! Wait! What is that beast? Who is that beast?" I asked, stressing on the 'Who'.

"There is nothing to worry about the beast, Lady Pamela." He said, completely ignoring my question.

I stared at Neal and asked again.

"I was asking you who that beast is, Neal. Answer me." I insisted.

"You are just shaken up, Lady Pamela. Let's go back to your quarters." He said.

Before I could utter another word, the beast suddenly growled and tried to claw at us, but the chain stopped it from getting any further. When the beast kept growling and clawing its way to where I was, the guard waved the she-wolf's pieces of clothing and the beast immediately stopped.

"Is that beast Lucius?" I asked Neal, hesitantly.

When Neal did not answer, I stared at him in the eyes and asked again.

"I will ask you one more time, Neal. Is that beast Lucius?" I repeated, this time more firmly.

"Yes." He answered.

I felt my world shatter into pieces.

'Lucius is a beast?'

'What?'

'How?'

'Why?'

Questions flooded my mind.

"Lady Pamela, I highly advise that you go back to your quarters for now," Neal said, pulling me out of my trance.

I looked at him, blinking twice before looking back at Lucius - No, that was not him. That was a beast.

"How did this happen?" I mumbled. My voice was barely a whisper.

It scared me that the beast might hear me and come at me again.

"Believe me when I say that this is not the place you would want to be in right now. In a couple of minutes, he would be more wild and the longer you are here, the more dangerous it will be for you. So, please, go back to your quarters now." Neal repeated.

I looked at him and simply nodded. I could not process what he said.

One guard assisted me back to my room, and I sat on my bed as I stared at my hands.

'What the hell did I just see? Was that demonic beast really Lucius?'

"No! It can't be!" I muttered to myself, frantically shaking my head.

I stayed up all night, unable to sleep. Every single time I would hear the growls of the demonic beast, chills ran down my spine and images of what happened in the dungeon flashed back in my mind. It was haunting me even in my sleep.

For the next 7 days, I simply stayed in my room. It had traumatized me to the point of not even stepping out of my room. Every single night, I could not sleep as the beast's features kept flashing in front of my eyes, not allowing me to sleep. Because of my lack of sleep, I had dark circles under my eyes.

I knew I could not keep hiding. I had to get answers, and the only way to get them was by confronting Lucius. Or the demonic beast?

'You can do this, Pamela. Aren't you brave? For sure, what you saw that night was simply your imagination. It wasn't true, and you were just hallucinating. I am sure that Lucius and Neal will clear all this out and you will be back to normal.' I said out loud as I encouraged myself.

I took a deep breath and let out a long sigh before I got up from my vanity chair and headed to Lucius' office.

As soon as I exited the elevator on my way to Lucius' office, I bumped into Neal.

"Good Morning, Lady Pamela." He greeted.

"Where is Lucius?" I asked, going straight to the point.

"The King Alpha is currently resting. May I know what you need?" He replied.

"Resting or still ignoring me?" I asked.

"Apologies, but the King Alpha has not been feeling well for the past couple of days," he replied.

"Why are you telling me this now?" I asked, slightly raising my voice.

"You were in your room the past couple of days as well. I assumed you were not feeling well or just wanted to rest, So I did not disturb you." He replied.

"Why is he sick? What happened to him?" I asked.

"He just overworked himself the past few weeks. There is nothing to worry about. He's fine." He replied.

"I know you are hiding something from me. Does this have something to do with what happened in the dungeon?" I asked.

I watched him as he contemplated on his answer. A couple of minutes passed, and he had not answered my question.

"Are you still thinking of lying after what I saw that night? I know what I saw and don't you dare tell me I was hallucinating or something, because I know I wasn't." I spat.

He let out a deep sigh as he ran his fingers through his hair.

"It's better that you ask him because it is not my story to tell." He simply said.

"Then take me to him," I instructed him.

He had to take me to Lucius. I followed him to Lucius' room to get the answers to my questions.

When he opened the door, I hesitated to enter. I did not know what to expect, and I was not sure if I could see him like that again.

"Having second thoughts?" Neal asked, pulling me out of my trance.

"No." I lied, shaking my head.

I entered the room and strolled to the bed where Lucius was lying down.

'Gasp.'
