Chapter 32: Chapter 32

Chapter 32 Stupid Lucius

LUCIUS' POV

As soon as I arrived in my office, I buried myself in paperwork. I needed to finish my work for today so that I could take Maia out for dinner later on. After what happened last night, Lucian had been begging me to see Maia.

'Stop acting like a lovesick mutt, Lucian. I have work to do. If you won't stop complaining, I won't get to finish this early and you won't be able to go see her.' I spat through the mind-link.

Thankfully, Neal did not pass by the office to annoy me by asking for details of what happened at the Lake House. I would have never finished more than half of this paperwork if he was around.

I checked the time on my phone and I saw that it was 6:30 PM.

'I better finish this last report so that I can go and take Maia out for dinner.' I said to myself.

When I heard the doorknob twist, I shook my head and smirked.

"You sure did take your time, huh?" I asked, my eyes trained on the report I was reading.

"You were waiting for me?" A voice of a female that I was so familiar with asked.

'Oh, shit!' I exclaimed in my head with my eyes wide open.

I slowly lifted my head and my suspicions were confirmed.

"What are you doing here, Pamela?" I asked.

"Didn't you miss me? Why are you so surprised to see me? Are you not happy or were you expecting somebody else?" she asked.

"No. That's not what I meant. It's just you did not say you were coming, and it's already late at night. Is something wrong?" I replied, asking what the purpose of her visit was.

I was about to get out of my seat when she stopped me.

"Nothing is wrong. Can't I visit you whenever I feel like it?" she asked, slowly straddling on my lap.

I cleared my throat as I felt uncomfortable with this position.

"I think you should take your rest. You must have had a long journey and a tiring one." I suggested, trying to slowly get her off me.

"Will you put me to bed?" she asked.

Her voice has changed in such a way that it sounded as if she was seducing me.

'She is, you fool!' Lucian spat.

Lucian has always hated Pamela. She was an amazing lady. Lucian didn't like her because he did not want me to pick her as my chosen mate. He was always so adamant about waiting for the mate that the Moon Goddess had chosen for us.

"I still have a lot of work to do. Don't worry. Tomorrow, we can go to your favorite restaurant. How does that sound?" I asked, trying to change how this conversation was going.

"Don't you find me attractive, Lucius?" she asked, inching her breast close to my face.

I gulped as I thought of a way to get out of this sticky situation.

"Look, you must be tired. Come and I will walk you to your room." I said, lightly pushing her body away from me.

What she did next literally caught me off guard. She cupped my face and was about to kiss me when I stopped her.

"Pamela! What are you doing?" I exclaimed, slightly angered by her actions.

"I have been waiting patiently, Lucius. How much longer must I wait? What more do I have to do for you to give me all of your attention?" she asked; her voice was slightly raised with anger.

I let out a sigh and looked her in the eye.

"Pamela, this is not you. What has gotten into your mind?" I asked with a calm voice.

Instead of answering, she grabbed my face and kissed me on the lips. I was trying to push her body away from me when the door suddenly barged open.

When our eyes met, I saw how her eyes were filled with so much pain and sadness. I got up from the chair and Pamela fell on the floor.

"Wait!" I yelled, but she had already run.

Neal was standing there by the door with a look of disappointment on his face.

'It's not what it looks like, Neal. I swear. She came to me and I was trying to push her away.' I explained to Neal through the mind-link.

'Explain to her, not me.' he simply spat before leaving the office.

"Shit!" I cursed under my breath.

I was about to go after Maia when Pamela stopped me.

"You were just going to leave me on the floor? After you dropped me and did not help me, you are now going to leave as if nothing happened?" she asked with anger.

"Not now, Pamela. Don't start now. Go to your room and don't you dare disobey my orders.`` I replied, warning her.

I was about to step out of the office when she tested my patience.

"Or what? What is it that you are hiding from me, Lucius? Do you have a side chick that you prefer over me? Is that it?" she spat.

"How many times do I have to tell you no? Go to your room now before I change my mind and send you back home." I snapped.

"Go ahead then. Send me home. Isn't that what you are so good at? Ignoring people who care about you?" she exclaimed.

"Pamela, my patience is running thin right now. Just shut your mouth and go." I spat.

"I have been very patient with you, Lucius. You picked me as your chosen mate three years ago and I have been waiting to be by your side for those three years. Every time I want to see you, I always have to make an appointment as if I am some Alpha that you have to meet with. I can never show up unannounced. Whenever I talk to you about the ceremony, you always change the damn subject. I am running out of excuses to tell my parents, Lucius. How am I supposed to help you if you are not helping me understand you?" she explained, asking for an explanation.

"I am not going to talk about this with you right now," I said.

Thankfully, the omega that I called for has finally arrived.

"Assist her to her chambers," I ordered.

The omega entered my office to attend to Pamela.

"Make sure that she stays in her room. She is not going anywhere but in her room." I ordered the guards outside my door without looking at them.

I went straight to Maia's room to apologize but did not find her there. I checked the whole room and she was just not there.

'Neal, where are you?' I asked through the mind-link.

'In my room, trying to get some sleep as any person does,' he replied.

'Where's Maia?' I asked while looking outside the balcony.

'Why are you asking me? Shouldn't you know where she is? She's your mate after all.' he spat.

'Not now, Neal. Get your ass out of that damn bed and help me find Maia.' I growled before cutting off the mind-link.

I tried sniffing her, but her scent was all over the hallway. Without any leads, I checked my room in hope of finding her there. Unfortunately, she wasn't there either.

'Of course, she isn't, you dumbass! Why would she hide in your room after seeing that nasty scene in front of her?' Lucian spat.

'If all you are going to do is just nag, then just shut the hell up.' I snapped.

I left my room and went back to my office. Thankfully, Pamela was no longer there.

I stood by the door and tried to sniff her scent. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't pick up her scent. Mainly because Lucian was acting like a complete dick and not helping out.

"Did you find her?" I asked Neal when I saw him running up the stairs.

"I asked the guards downstairs, but nobody saw her. That meant she had to be somewhere inside the castle." Neal replied.

"Where? It will take us days to check every single room in this castle." I complained.

"Have you checked the Lake House?" Neal asked.

That's right! The Lake House.

Just when I was about to leave, a thought came to me.

"I don't think she will be there. The house is locked and I don't think she will remember the way. Plus, the guards said nobody left the castle. So she must be somewhere in here." I said, trying to think of other places where she could be.

"I will take some of the guards and we'll start looking from the ground floor and make our way up. I'll update you when we catch her scent or see her." Neal said.

"Okay." I nodded as he left.

'Where could she be? Think, Lucius. Think.' I asked myself.

My feet brought me to the elevator and I absentmindedly pressed the top floor. I only realized that I was on the wrong floor when I exited the elevator.

'Damn it!' I cursed myself.

I was about to go back inside the elevator when her scent hit my nose.

'Shit! Why did I not think of that?' I cursed myself again for the umpteenth time.

I carefully opened the one room I was positive she would be in and found her on the bed crying.

Hearing her cries broke my heart and knowing I was the reason behind it made it worse.

"Maia, I'm sorry. Please let me explain." I apologized, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Go away, Lucius! Leave me the hell alone! I don't want to see you anymore. I don't want you near me at all. Get out!" she yelled.

I couldn't do anything but leave.

I stood outside the room with a broken heart. Seeing her cry this much made me hate myself so much.

'You are so stupid, Lucius. If you had only gotten rid of Pamela, this would have never happened.' I scolded myself.
