Chapter 108: Chapter 108

Chapter 108 Complications

LUCIUS' POV

I hated seeing Maia in so much pain, but I did not know what to do. The fact that she wanted me to trust this half-witch was easier said than done. The trust issues I had with witches grew a hundredfold after Tatiana.

"King Alpha, do I have your permission? I promise that all I will do is let her contractions subside a little so that she can rest and so that she will not go into labour now without my aunt." The girl named Trinna asked.

I looked at Maia who passed out from exhaustion, and then at Neal.

'Help me out, Neal. I don't know what to do,' I said through the mind link.

'We don't have much of an option, Lucius. Besides, Maia is in too much pain. If the doctor trusts her enough to have her request to join the pack approved, I think she should be good.' Neal replied.

I looked at Trinna and let out a sigh.

"Let me warn you. The moment something bad happens to her, you won't get to see another sunrise," I warned her.

"I promise you, I will not hurt her, King Alpha," she said.

I gave her a curt nod. Then she began chanting something under her breath.

Just as she promised, Maia's pain subsided after she cast the spell. I knew that for a fact because Maia's mind link was open and I could feel every spasm of pain she was enduring. If I could take all her pain away, I would.

I wanted to interrogate Trinna more, but then, one of the guards from the dungeons said that Uriah was in pain.

"Neal, check on Uriah. They said that he is in some kind of pain. Go and find out what is happening," I instructed.

There was no way that I was going to leave Maia alone with this half-witch. Besides, I wanted to know where exactly she came from and the reason behind her sudden interest in joining my pack.

I sat right next to Maia who was sleeping peacefully on the bed.

"So, tell me, Trinna. What are you doing in California? More importantly, why are you a half-witch?" I asked.

Before she could even utter her reply, Neal shouted in my head.

'You have to come down here, Lucius. Uriah is in bad shape. His mouth is bubbling. Hurry!" he yelled in my head.

I was at the point where I did not know what to do.

I pulled Emily from her seat and shook her shoulders.

"Emily, I want you to stay here with Maia. You will not take your eyes away from her, understand?" I instructed Emily.

I was about to leave when I remembered Trinna, the half-witch. I turned my head to her and instructed her to follow me.

As soon as we got to the dungeons, I kneeled over to Uriah who was crouching in pain.

"What's wrong with him? What is going on?" I asked.

"We don't know. He said that something is moving in his stomach and it hurts," Neal replied.

I heard Uriah murmur something, but it was too soft for me to understand.

"What? What are you trying to say, Uriah?" I asked, leaning closer to hear him.

"Mate," he said, his voice was barely above a whisper and it was raspy.

I looked behind me and saw Trinna standing there in a trance.

Shit! My brother's mate was a half-witch?

'Is there a problem, Lucius?' Neal asked, pulling me away from my thoughts.

I looked back at Uriah who had already paled from the pain.

'Trinna is Uriah's mate,' I said through the mind link.

I got up from the ground and headed over to Trinna. "Can you heal him?" I asked.

It took her a couple of seconds to break from her trance and look at me.

"I...I don't know, King Alpha. I don't know what kind of sickness he has. I... I.." she stuttered.

"Then find out. Do whatever it takes to heal him," I ordered.

She stared at Uriah for a couple of seconds without moving from her spot.

"Now, Trinna," I said.

She finally moved and slowly went over to Uriah. She whispered a couple of words before she stopped and covered her mouth with her hands.

"What is it?" I asked, running over to her side. As I looked at her face, I saw that she was on the verge of crying.

"Trinna, get yourself together and tell me what you found," I repeated through gritted teeth.

"If I am right, he has the cursed worm. Whoever did this wanted him to suffer before he died," she mumbled.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

She looked at me and took a deep breath. "Cursed worms can only be killed by silver. Unfortunately, silver can kill werewolves. Whoever cursed him with this never wanted him to live in the first place. To kill the cursed worm, he has to drink enough silver for the worm to digest and eventually die. You kill the worm; you also kill the host."

"There has to be another way. Don't you know any spell that can unbind this curse?" I asked, racking my brain for another solution.

"The spell to unbind this is too complex. One wrong ingredient can kill him. One wrong pronunciation, one wrong word and one wrong move can kill him," she said.

I noticed a tear fall from her face as she kneeled there helplessly.

"Can you numb his pain until we find a solution?" I asked.

"This can only do so little. His pain will become more intense with each passing day, but I will do my best to make him feel as comfortable as I can," she replied.

"Okay," I said before standing up.

"Prepare a room in the hospital. Make sure that it is guarded and secluded. No one can enter his room except Trinna, Neal and myself," I instructed.

I left the dungeon and headed back to our room where Maia was resting.

'Doctor, how far are you? Your presence is greatly needed right now,' I said through the mind link.

'We are three towns away, King Alpha. We'll be back soon,' she replied.

As I stared at my mate, I couldn't help but worry more about everything else. Deep inside, I was praying that everything would be fine.
