Chapter 105: Chapter 105

Chapter 105 Final verdict

MAIA'S POV

Instead of sleeping in the room that night, I stayed in my old room. I was hurt by what he said, thinking that he was the only one going through hard after the war.

Being back in my old room brought back a lot of memories. My painting materials were still there, and everything was left untouched.

I sat on my painting stool and took out a blank canvas. I drew the first thing that my eyes landed on - the moon.

One of the things that had always mesmerized me was the moon. The way it changed colors and shapes was more than enough to have one hooked.

I was halfway finished with the painting when I started feeling tired. Instead of finishing the painting, I put the paints and the brush away.

After washing up and changing into new pajamas, I went straight to bed.

Unfortunately, it was one of those days where I had nightmares of the past.

I woke up gasping for breath as I sat in a pool of sweat with my heart racing a thousand miles.

"Maia, are you okay?" I heard Lucius ask.

"My baby...." I cried.

"Shhh. It's okay. It was just a nightmare. I am right here," he said, rubbing my back.

It took me almost an hour to calm down.

Ever since we caught Uriah, I started having nightmares. It would always be about the same thing - the day he beat me up and lost my baby. How I wished it was so easy to just forget about it, but I couldn't. The mere fact that he was in the same place as I boiled.

I wanted to get justice so badly, but I knew that Lucius needed to do what he needed to do.

"Are you feeling better now?" Lucius asked. His voice was almost a whisper.

I looked at him and slowly nodded my head.

"Would you like some water?" He asked.

I nodded my head.

He got up from the bed and came back a couple of minutes later with a cup of water.

He helped me sit down and assisted me with drinking water.

Once I was done, I leaned to him as he cuddled me.

"I am sorry for what I said earlier. It was not fair of me to say those. I was an asshole," he apologized.

I stayed quiet as I stared into the space.

"Do you want to talk about it, or is it the same nightmare?" He asked.

"It is different. I was about to give birth, and Uriah took the baby out of my belly. He held her by the neck as he twisted it before dropping her lifeless body on the floor," I mumbled.

"Come here. It's okay. I am right here," Lucius said as he drew circles around my back.

We stayed like that for the next half an hour until I fell asleep.

I woke up the following day with his arms draped over my body. Moments like this made my heart flutter even after that misunderstanding we had.

"Good morning, my Queen," he greeted me.

I simply hummed a reply and heard jangling keys on the table.

"Morning," I mumbled.

He cupped my face and gave me a sweet good morning kiss that gave me butterflies in my stomach.

"What would you like for breakfast? Waffles or eggs?" He asked.

"Can I have both?" I asked.

"Of course. Anything that my Queen wants," he replied.

He got out of bed and left. After a couple of minutes, I got out of bed and did my morning routine.

He came back with breakfast not long after, and we ate it on the balcony just like we used to.

"I have already decided what to do with Uriah," Lucius said while eating.

I stopped eating and looked at him as I waited for him to continue talking.

"You are right. Uriah is my brother, and it does not matter if he was manipulated or not. What he did was wrong. He needs to pay for the consequences of his actions. He will not get any special treatment whatsoever," he explained.

"And how do you feel?" I asked.

"I think I am okay. It might take a while for me to accept it fully, but it is the right thing to do," he replied.

"Always know that I am here," I said, giving his hand a light squeeze.

He smiled at me before we went back to eating.

After our breakfast, he called for a pack meeting. Everyone arrived at the pack hall in less than an hour.

"I have gathered you all here today for a very important announcement. For the past couple of months, I have been unfair and selfish to all of you. I was only thinking about my feelings and not how everybody else around me felt. It took me a long time to realize this, and I apologize to all the people that I have hurt. I know that it was not what you expected from your King Alpha. Right now, I would like to correct my mistakes."

"Before you guys judge my judgement, I would like you to understand my reasons. I know that Uriah deserves to be punished severely for his actions, and I believe he had enough time to think about his mistakes. We all do make mistakes, and none of us are perfect. None of us have the right to judge a person fully. We were taught to give second chances. As for Uriah's punishment, he will spend a whole year as Omega and work as a slave. He will be stripped of all his privileges, such as my brother. He will have to work hard for every single thing. After a year of working, we will come together again and decide his final verdict. I hope that this is clear to everyone. Thank you all for your understanding," he announced.

The people were quiet for a couple of seconds before a series of claps erupted. It was evident that some did not like the decision while others understood.

He walked down the stage and pulled me into a hug as we walked towards the car.

"You did a good job, Lucius," I said as we entered the car.
