Chapter 45: Chapter 45
[Author’s Point Of View]
*Two Weeks Later*
Minerva’s condition has neither increased or decreased in any way and it sickens Sebastian but he holds on to the hope of her standing up to glare at him or even throw an insult at him. He just wants her to be as she was but as he continues to stare at her bed everyday, the hope dims, leaving only a string for him to hold on to and also the words of a weird female.
“I still wonder what you come here to do everyday. You know that she doesn’t want you here right?” Greyson closes the door behind him. “She barely stares at you when you come around. I’m sure that she doesn’t listen to you too.”
Sebastian doesn’t react to his words. Greyson does this every time he sees Sebastian here, coming in to say something to provoke him but Sebastian knows that if he gets provoked, there is a huge bet of Greyson’s death and Minerva will never forgive him if that happens.
Never suddenly seems like an understatement.
When Greyson begins to talk to Minerva in a one way conversation, Sebastian takes it as his cue to leave. Meanwhile, as Sebastian stands to his feet, Minerva eyes follows him and for once in a few days, she speaks, even though it is in a hush whisper.
“W-Where are you g-going?”
Sebastian and Greyson freeze as their ears pick up the sound of her voice.
“Where are you going, Sebastian? Please don’t leave m-me.”
Sebastian turns to watch her lips quiver and he walks to her, her hazel eyes following him steadily. When he is at close range, she reaches out to grab the hem of his shirt with a shaky hand.
“Closer.” She whispers, sounding breathless and he obeys, drawing himself closer to her as he covers her hand which is holding his shirt with his palm.
“L-Lay with me.”
It takes great effort for Minerva to say these words. She feels like every time she tries to say a word or even move, something pushes her down, blocking her out of her own body and all she can do is watch…
Sebastian barely takes a glance at Greyson, he pulls her hand away from his shirt and he lays on the bed with her, adjusting himself to fit in the space without making her to shift in any way.
Greyson stands in the sidelines awkwardly, still shocked about what’s going on. “I’m going to go call the doc- your sis- I mean her sister.”
He is a mess as he hurries out of the room, leaving Minerva clinging to Sebastian as he wraps his hands around her and she continues to stare at him.
Sebastian doesn’t know how this is happening but all he can do is smile as he holds her to his chest. The sudden feeling of guilt arise when his eyes catch the bandage on her neck. He can’t feel her wolf and he is sure that she can’t feel it too and this makes her healing pace as that of a human. Without her wolf or fey side, she is a human fighting a complex spell.
“I will never leave you, Minerva.” He kisses her forehead. “I will never leave our child too.”
“Never?” Her eyes blinks up at him slowly as he looks down at her.
“Never.”
The door opens and Asteria walks in. Minerva can barely turn to he sister’s direction so, she chooses not to.
“Greyson told me that she said a word.”
“No, she said words,” A huge grin spreads on Sebastian’s face as he speaks. “And she moved.”
Asteria squats down at the end of the bed as she stares at her sister’s eyes which slowly moves to her.
“Hey big sis. I heard that you spoke a lot of words. Can you speak again, say something?”
Silence greets her and the ears of Sebastian too. He holds Minerva’s chin softly and turns her to face him.
“Hey, your sister wants to help us out here. Say something, just a word.”
The soft whisper of his voice warms her heart but as she tries to speak, he lips barely move.
Asteria lets out an exhale as she stands straight and takes a look at the disappointed wolf king.
“I read once that a wolf ma-”
“I am not imagining this!” He seethes. “She spoke. She really said something and she moved. Why doesn’t she want to do it again!”
He breathes out, shutting his eyes for a moment before he stands on his feet.
“I’m sorry.” Asteria whispers with as she looks down. “We all want her to get better.”
“Yeah. Let’s go. I need to get some fresh air.”
Immediately, Minerva’s hand shoots out to grasp his clothing again but this time more tightly.
“Don’t me. Please, don’t leave me. Don’t leave!”
Asteria’s eyes widens as she hears this. “She moved.”
Asteria bends closer to her as Sebastian quickly lays back with Minerva. “I am not going anywhere.”
Her anxious eyes watch him for a moment before her breath stops its frenzy.
“Minerva, can you say something to me. Something that will make me understand was happened?”
Minerva’s eyes moves to her sister’s direction and they become dull in the next second. Her hand holding Sebastian drops slowly as she turns back to the Minerva who has been on the same bed for two weeks.
Asteria looks at Sebastian who continues to hold Minerva tight.
“Does this mean that she is making progress?”
“Yes.” Asteria stands straight once more. “She is trying to fight the spell but it is strong. It is pushing her back, that’s why we need to find Davina quickly.”
“That’s what I have been doing for a while now. She has hidden herself so much that my wolves can’t sniff her out and I won’t be able to leave here because Minerva doesn’t want me to.”
“You should stay, Minerva needs you and you might be the cause of this little breakthrough. Perhaps, staying close will do good for now. I’ll bring everything you need here for you, and also a second bed if possible.” Asteria’s eyes skims through the room. “The bathroom is a door away. What else do you need?”
“To find Davina.”
“We are already on that, just try to make my sister better. She can hear us and probably see everything too, so make this time worth while.”
Sebastian turns to Minerva as Asteria slowly leaves the room after deciding to give them some privacy.
“I need to have a meeting with my commanders. Would you let me have a meeting here or should I leave…”
When silence greets him, he exhales. “If you want me to have a meeting outside this room, blink once but if you want them to come here, meaning that I won’t have to go, blink twice.”
Without hesitation, Minerva’s eyes closes twice in two blinks and he laughs.
“I thought so.”
He slowly lets go out her and sits up, opening a mind link to all his high officers. ‘Come to the private ward room now.’
It doesn’t take long for five females and four males to step in. Thankfully, the room is big enough for about twenty people and there are many chairs.
Sebastian’s eyes skims through the wolves. “Where is-”
The door opens suddenly and Paul walks in. “Sorry, sorry. I had no idea where the private ward room was.”
As he takes a seat, Sebastian turns to the curious wolves fully. “I called you all here-”
“We can not start a meeting with that female in the room.” It is a young she-wolf who speaks first. “Our meetings are confidential and the info-”
“The information will stay hidden from the public. She will stay, she is my mate and the mother of my unborn child. You will not interrupt me again.”
The female shuts up immediately and Paul sits up instead.
“What happened to Minerva? The last time I saw her, she had pointed ears and now…” He trails off, staring at Minerva’s still body on the bed and Sebastian sighs.
“That’s exactly why I called everyone here. I want you to tell me what your remember.”

Minerva finally goes to sleep in Sebastian’s hands and he takes this chance to step out of the room to get the fresh air he has been craving for. Having her in his arms is great and all but he feels like this is just a dream and that once he steps out and comes in, she will be back to the Minerva who glares at him because of even a touch. He misses that female, not the one who stares at him with dull eyes.
Gwen has been watching the door ever since Paul and the other high personals stepped out. She has been waiting for her brother to leave the room and he does after a few long minutes.
Sebastian passes her without noticing, due to the fact that he is lost in his thoughts and Gwen takes this opportunity to sneak into the room Minerva is being kept, closing the door softly behind her.
The sound of Minerva’s steady breath invades Gwen’s ears as she takes a seat beside her and takes a hold of her hand.
“Hey, Minerva. There is a chance that you can hear me and if you can, I want you to know that I miss you. That I miss your silly talks and your sarcastic compliments. Just… try to get better for us, for your kid.” She laughs, squeezing tight on her palm. “Speaking of kids. Guess what? I’m pregnant.”
Gwen expects no answer as she says this.
“I know that it’s a bad timing with all these pregnancies. I mean, you are pregnant, your sister’s pregnant and now here I am… pregnant. I certainly don’t know what Angel Writes is planning but it better not involve your death.”
Minerva’s eyes open and Gwen laughs with a cry in between as Minerva squeezes back on her palm.
“I am not going to die.” Minerva tries to speak no matter the force pushing her down. “I will always be here to give you more sarcastic compliments.”
Gwen lets out a giggle. “You said something. So you aren’t mad that I am expecting a child for Greyson?”
“I had a hunch that it was his.” Minerva grunts as she shifts on the bed with much effort. “I am not meant to be talking to you or anyone right now. I shouldn’t even be able to move but Angel Writes sure knows how to make loopholes.”
“So what you are trying to say is that you have a few minutes left to speak to me.” Gwen looks down as Minerva turns to her direction.
“Yes, so make it worth while. It hurts my eyes to keep staring at the same wall everyday and today,” Minerva blinks. “I was surprisingly scared when Sebastian wanted to leave. I wanted him by my side at all cost, a part of me still does.”
“Don’t panic, I am sure he will be back any minute from now.”
“And I am fifty percent sure that the readers of this book are wondering why everyone is getting pregnant or maybe the book is rushing too fast. Wait, is the book rushing too fast?” Minerva asks.
“I don’t think so. She always got things planned. Makes me wonder if she got me saying this or if she is hiding Davina somewhere far away.”
“There might be a chance that I will not be able to be as I was before.”
“What do you mean, you won’t be able to throw a sarcastic compliment at me?” Gwen scowls.
“I won’t die but apart from this little intervals of speech I get, I will be stuck like this forever till I find a permanent solution for this.”
“That’s absurd. Who will take care of your kid. You wouldn’t even get to hold him or she for more than a few minutes.” Gwen argues. “Just don’t think about it. We’re going to find a way through this.”
“I’ve been hearing this for the past few days. It’s starting to hurt my ears.” Minerva laughs as Gwen stands on her feet. “Just promise me that you will take care of my kid.”
“I can’t promise you anything because I know that you will leave and we’ll surely find a way. Till then, hang on… Gwen trails off when Minerva’s grip relaxes and when she looks down, she finds out that her eyes are closed. “Sleep tight, Minerva.”
