Chapter 27: Chapter 27
“You sure that this isn’t one of Gwen’s spray side effects?”
Paul stares at me, patiently waiting for my response and I nod at him, then shake my head.
“Is that a yes or a no.”
“It’s a yes because she thinks that she is sure of what’s she saying and a no for the side effects… hey, my spray bottle doesn’t have side effects.”
We ignore Gwen as she munches on her snacks.
I was not surprised when she brought it out of no where, I repeat, I was not surprised.
“What you are trying to tell me is that she is planning against the king… her own mate and husband.”
“Only human females call their mates, husbands,” Gwen scoffs, “It’s a bit surprising and weird.”
Greyson, Paul, Gwen sits in front of the round table in Paul’s wings.
Turns out that he got a list of rooms to himself. A lot is on that list.
No one comes in to here without his consent and it’s not like anyone in their right senses will come in here anyway.
I mean, he is the king’s right hand man, his beta. That must be a terrifying post.
But… Gwen won’t hesitate to defy him in any way. Well, she is Gwen.
Greyson’s fingers dart around the round table as he shrugs, “The queen seems nice.”
“Technically, she isn’t fully the queen yet, but maybe that’s her plan. She probably wants to get the throne in full and then kill my idiotic brother just to take the kingdom for herself.”
“If that was to happen, I don’t understand why you are still calm,” Paul questions.
“I know that she won’t have the chance to do that. Minerva’s my girl,” She winks at me,” She won’t let it happen.”
“I am not your girl,” I defend myself.
Paul leans in, “The only thing I am not seeing right now is proof.. as much as I don’t like or trust this female, I can’t do a thing without proof.”
“That’s a bad thing to say, Paul. We didn’t get any proof, okay!” She bangs her fist on the table, “All we got was a cheap linen underwear.”
Paul blinks at her, like he doesn’t care. He is very familiar with both her and her behaviour.
I wish that I was more familiar with it.
No, I take that back!
“That’s very unnecessary,” Greyson says and Gwen narrows her eyes at him.
Her empty snack packet is then thrown aside.
“Oh, shut up, hotty. It’s not like she would ever show them to you, but ig you want them, we can make an arr-”
“Shut up, Gwen!” Gwen rolls her eyes at Paul’s stern tone but he continues, “You don’t have proof and that’s all the more reason you should drop it. I will search for whatever you think is going on, all you have to do is stay out of it. Stay low.”
“Stay low?” Gwen’s face wrinkles in confusion, “Why would we do that?”
“Because I say so.”
“I think it is a bad I-”
“A great idea, right?” He cuts me off and smiles too sweetly, “Thank you for the compliment.”
That’s not what I meant.
He pushes us out the door before any of us can say another word. It’s funny how I woke up today with a killer instinct but now it’s all gone.
“I think I will see you girls later,” Greyson’s face holds a large smile as he takes several steps bakwards and winks at me before he walks away.
“Is it just me or was that hot.”
I roll my eyes and start walking away but she follows after me.
“It’s just you kiddo,” I say, “What are you going to do now. We got no proof and I am starting to think that I am wrong.”
All of a sudden, she drags my shoulders to face me to her and she slaps my face.
What the-
I receive another slap again.
“What the hell is wrong with you,” I push her away, “Don’t you know that this is my good face.”
She ignores that statement, “We are not going to give up on this quest, just as I won’t give up on getting Greyson.”
She pounds her fist in to the other palm with a serious and determined expression.
“I find that very disturbing,” I grimace.
“Just follow my lead.”
I frown at her as she walks to the opposite direction, “Er- where are you going to?”
“To hunt for clues, where else. Try to stay out of trouble and be safe.”
She disappears from my view immediately as Grace appears in front of me.
I jump up in fright.
“You are getting pretty easy to scare.”
Staring up at her, she smiles ta me. I still can’t believe that she is planning against the kingdom, but I shouldn’t jump in to conclusions right?
She might still be innocent.
I will ripe her eyes out if she isn’t.
“What do you want?”
My eyes narrows as my voice comes out in a deadly tone.
Her smiles slowly slips up her face and she rubs her palms on her dress,”the ceremony is starting tomorrow so I came to give you your dress.”
Okay, now I am confused.
“What ceremony?”
“A new council member was installed and we are having a celebration.”
And here I stand asking myself how that relates to me,” I shake my head slowly and she sighs.
“You are to be there. It is a direct order from the king. Trust me, I don’t want you getting anymore closer to it.”
Oh, so that you can kill everyone, not happening. But it would be great if she could kill Sebastian for me.
“So the creepy smile on your face is telling me a yes, even though it is so very creepy.”
I ignore that.
“How will I hide my scent. I mean, I have Sebastian’s mark, wouldn’t that be a problem?”
“Why don’t we talk on the way,” She ushers me to walk with her and I do, “Your accessories has been laced with scent changing solut-”
“Oh my gosh! You changed my scent?”
My outburst comes out harshly as I stop on my track.
“It was the only way to gra-”
“Fuck no! You had no right. Fuck! You couldn’t even tell me.”
She inhales deeply, “It was Sebastian’s idea.”
I smile forcefully, “But tell me who executed it, you! Hell, a-a werewolf scent is the most important thing in his or her life. What is wrong with you people.”
She has nothing more to say as I finish my outburst and reach out to my wolf, who doesn’t even move a muscle to my call.
I sigh and mentally stroke her fur.
As I walk pass Grace, my shoulder bumps hardly in to hers and she yelps, jumping away.
“I wish I murdered Sebastian the first time I laid my eyes on him,” I mutter as I walk to my room and close the door behind me.
Goddess, why can’t I have peace in my life.
My wolf whimpers and tries to curl herself more which is impossible.
I know that she is scared and tired but it’s my job to have her back at all cost.
My back slides down the door as I sit on the ground, all my instincts on making her feel better.
All I can do is stroke her fur and she purrs.
It takes sometime before she uncurls herself and mentally stares at me.
So much sadness and lost hope in her own joyous eyes.
I embrace her with all the positive emotions I can give to support her.
“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure that he pays for what he has done. His blood must run down his palm.”
She tilts her head in amusement and I laugh already knowing what she is thinking.
“No, it won’t be something dirty,” I giggle more, “Don’t ruin my head with crazy images. Stop!”
“I am not doing that. Eww!”
Okay, I’m unstable but I got a bit of my wolf still in there.
That’s everything to me.
She’s everything to me.
