Chapter 26: Chapter 26

“You! Why would you drag me away. I was seconds away from finding out who she was talking to.”

Gwen stares at me blankly and flicks her wrist in my direction.

“You were actually seconds away from scaring yourself for eternity. She was clearly talking to my idiotic brother.”

She closes the door behind her with her foot.

“Did you even hear anything that Grace said?”

She looks thoughtful as she pushes me softly to the bed.

I don’t even know why I let her do that.

“Yeah, she said that… yes, my love?”

“You didn’t even hear a thing!”

She pushes me back to the bed as I am about to stand up to her height.

“Keep your hair on and let me tell you what she said. I just ate and frankly, I am not ready to lose my food.”

Ignoring that statement, I say, “I think that she is planning against your brother, against the throne.”

She rolls her eyes, placing her hands on her waist as she narrows her eyes at me.

“I knew that girl was cruel but do you have any proof?”

“No. Sadly, I have no proof.why can’t I have a phone like a normal person.”

“Because you aren’t a normal person,” She points out, “You do know that you are the queen, in a way.”

“Grace is the quee-”

“You both are queens. Just as you both have the same mark, for the same person. That is my idiotic brother.”

I blink at her, “We are talking about something important. Possibly an attack on the king- even though we are not in speaking terms right now. I have to save his ass.”

“Minerva, you don’t have any proof and as much as I want to believe you, I can’t jump in to a burning bush with you,” She sighs.

“I didn’t ask you to jump in to the bush with me. I am not even in a bush at all.”

“I do want to believe you, Minerva but she is in love with Sebastian and I guess, that my stupid brother feels the same way.”

I cross my arms across my chest, “So what you are trying to say is that you are now believing her act.”

She rolls her eyes at me, “When I told you she was evil, you didn’t listen to me.”

“So you haven’t dropped your allegations?”

“Of course I haven’t. I don’t trust that so called queen, but after almost getting my head cut off by my brother, I am staying down low. I gather proof first.”

“Oh, I love the way you think.”

She flicks her hair backwards as she turns away from me, “You clearly do. I am a genius.”

“Okay, I take back what I said.”

“You can’t do anything, little one. You only got one chance to speak a word.”

I frown, “I think you need to take English classes.”

“What we need is to prove that the queen is evil and thankfully, she is not fully the queen yet.”

“What?”

She pulls me up my feet and I try to maintain my stance.

“She isn’t fully mated to my brother and it takes time to fill in the paper work for a human to take that position. Almost everything that happened on the ceremony day was a show.”

“That’s it! She is probably waiting for the time she will be fully the queen.”

“Er… I actually think you are the one who needs the English lessons.”

“No, I don’t. What I need now is confirmation,” I say, “I want to know if what my gut is telling me is true.”

“Trust your gut, Minerva,” She emphasises.

“I know but my indecisive guts, got me in to this mess in the first place.”

“Oh boohoo,” She waves me off and I lay back on the bed, “You got a mission and you clearly chose me as the mission leader so I am going to be just that.”

As she makes a dramatic pose, my mind blanks, “What?’

My question makes her stop, “If I count how many times you have said ‘what’ and I gradeit with money. Girl, I will be a millionaire.”

“Why can’t we have a serious conversation for once. You are already a more than a millionaire.”

“Girl, I am having a serious conversation right now. And yes, I am more than a millionaire.”

I roll my eyes and sit up, “When is this operation going to begin?”

A smile slowly makes way to her to lips as she rubs her palms together,”Now we’re talking! First, I’ll need gadgets for the job. I’m starting to wish that we have a potion that can turn us in to a bird.”

“What do you need that for?” I ask.

“It’s going to be like spies in disguise, girl. No one will know what hits him or her.”

The weird glint in her eyes makes me nod unconsciously.

“I think I got no idea about what you are talking about.”

She stares at me in shock then she comes closer to hold my shoulders with a strange smile.

“We are going to find out what’s going on with her, if she is really evil or you are just being jealous.”

“I am so not jealous,” I protest. I inhale slowly and pinch the bridge of my nose, “How are we going to do that? I don’t even know what I saw.”

“Exactly!” She hurries to her drawer and brings out a-

“Okay, I don’t know what that is.”

“It will hide her scent. I don’t want Sebastian sniffing us out in any way.”

She shakes the little bottle in her palm before she sprays it on my fae, without any warning.

I begin to cough in ways I have never done before.

“Gwen! It got in to my mouth.”

She smiles as she sprays it on her neck.

“That’s good. It will also hide your bad breath, if you have any.”

I have no idea about what she saying.

“Let me just be glad that this isn’t a potion any more,” I stand on my feet and take her wrist, dragging her out the door.

“No, you were right. I didn’t need that nasty thing. This one is much more better.”

When I arrive at our destination. I stop and also make sure that Gwen stops with me.

She can be a headache sometimes.

“We are so not getting in to their room.”

“So what was all the spraying for?” I deadpan.

“Something else, of course.”

As I reach out to open the door, she stops me and whisper-yells, “Wait!”

She rushes forward as I pause and she sprays the content in the bottle on the knob of the door.

I don’t even know what’s in there.

“Now you can open it.”

With a roll of my eyes, I twist the knob open and we step in to the room. His scent attacks me and I find myself unable to stop inhaling it in.

i am supposed to have a strong hatred for him, not have the urge to sniff his clothes.

“Check inside the drawers.”

I do as she says while she hurries to search in the wardrobe.

“They are so going to catch us.”

“Don’t worry your pretty head. I found out that my brother can be very ignorant when he is with that she-devil.”

“You talk like she was never ignorant,” I laugh.

But in a few minutes, my half good mood turns completely sour.

“We didn’t find anything in anywhere. Why did we find anything?”

I just said what I don’t even understand.

Gwen walks to me with a thoughtful expression, “I think it’s clean.”

“What?”

She immediately raises up a panty with a smile on her face.

“Even her collectibles are clean.”

“Her collectibles? Are you really sure th-”

“Of course, I don’t think she is clean. You’ve been with me for months. How are you not supposed to know this!”

“Let’s just get out of here,” I stand on my feet and push her out of the room, “I think that the spray is having an effect on you.”

“No, it’s not.”

My fingers linger on the door knob as my eyes dart around again.

I just have to find out what she is hiding.

I close the door behind me…
