Chapter 29: Chapter 29

CLAIRE NEVER imagined that this whole idea of Blaire’s family day would be such a fun filled day.

They both played around with Zack and then they will go back to their place and will eat something from the picnic basket.

They laughed and enjoyed every moment. They were a picture of a perfect happy family.

Blaire was a perfect gentleman all throughout. When it’s time to go, he just lets her hold Zack’s hand while he is carrying the picnic basket and some other stuff.

“Mommy, mommy! I want ice cream.” Zack exclaimed while pointing out the ice cream vendor station.

Claire looked at Blaire and found out that he was looking at her as well.

“I will just buy him ice cream.” She informed him.

“I can help you if you want.” He said.

But he was bringing their picnic stuff so she decided to let him settle their things in the car and she will buy ice cream for Zack.

“No, it’s okay, you can go in the car first. We will just be quick.” She replied.

Blaire stared at her for a moment. She was expecting to see a hint of doubt from his eyes but she did not.

“Okay, I’ll wait in the car then. Be careful.” He said.

She smiled and nodded. “Do you want some ice cream too?” She asked.

“Nope.” He replied.

“Okiedokie.” She said and held Zack’s hand as they walked towards the ice cream station.

“I want chocolate flavor, mommy.” Zack said.

“Okay honey, chocolate then.” She said and smiled at him.

They were second in the queue and as she was holding Zack’s hand she tried to look around while they were waiting for their turn.

Her heart started pounding erratically when someone caught her eyes. She even blinked twice just to make sure that she was seeing him clearly.

Oh! Gracious heaven! The man in a cap! She does not feel really good about this man. Especially when he blended into many people like he was trying to be unnoticed.

The man looked at her and he simply smiled at her just like an ordinary person passing by.

“Ma’am what’s for you?”

Claire looked at the ice cream vendor and ordered chocolate flavor. And by the time that she tried to look again in the direction where she saw the man in a cap, he was not there anymore.

She looked around but there was no sign of him anymore.

When they got the ice cream, she immediately walked towards Blaire’s car. She held Zack’s hand tightly as she shivered when she remembered what Nana Amy told her about Zack’s being kidnapped before.

What if that man was the same kidnapper?

She sighed deeply when they reach Blaire’s car. She immediately opened the backseat car door and settled Zack there.

“Are you okay?” Blaire asked when she was able to sit in the passenger seat.

“Y-Yeah, I’m okay.” She lied.

“You look pale.” He said while looking at her from the driver’s seat.

Claire looked at Blaire and tried her best to look cool.

“Everything’s okay.” She said and smiled softly.

“Okay then.” Blaire replied and started the car engine.

She sighed secretly. The truth is, she was far from being okay. She’s still thinking about the man in a cap. He was spying on them! She was sure about that! She doesn't know why but she needs to be careful. Especially when she is with Zack.

“Claire?”

“Huh?” Claire got back into her senses when she heard Blaire called her name.

“Are you really okay?” Blaire said. She can hear concern in his voice.

“Sorry, I was just thinking about the blog I’m writing.” She lied again and tried to calm herself.

“About that, you know that JBC Corporation has a publishing company right?” He said while his eyes were still on the road.

The truth is, she does not know much about the group of companies that JBC Corporation has. Yes she heard a few of them but not all.

However, she was glad that Blaire brought out this conversation, at least she would have some diversion of what she was really feeling right now.

“And?” She asked carefully.

“It’s better for you to use your skills and talent in the company.” He answered.

She was actually surprised. “Are you offering me a job at JBC?” She wanted to make sure that she understood clearly what he was trying to say.

“Why not?” He said.

Even though he was still looking on the road, she looked at him with surprise.

“Well, if you just want to. Don’t worry your time will still be flexible.” He said in assurance.

This is a good offer for her. And this will help her a lot with grandma Celest medications. But she was also aware that she needs to think about it first and she does not want to make any rash decisions.

“C-Can I think about it?” She asked.

“Yes of course. I am not expecting you to decide today anyway.” He said and smiled softly but his eyes were still on the road.

She remembered how arrogant he was before but now, as days passed by, he was getting nicer to her. Somehow she found it strange, but she decided to just go with the flow.

When they reached home, Nana Amy took Zack immediately and the young boy happily and animatedly shared his experience in the park with the old lady.

She was about to go upstairs when she heard Blaire.

“Thank you for today.”

She looked at him. There was a soft smile on his face.

She smiled back. “I should be the one to say that. Thank you for today.”

“I was hoping that we could create more family days like this.” He said sincerely.

There was an emotion in his eyes that she can’t name. She was about to agree with him when she remembered the man in a cap. She was speechless for a while.

“Claire?”

She got into her senses when she heard his voice.

“Y-Yes, of course.” She said and smiled at him.

“Are you sure you are just okay?” Blaire asked again.

“Yes of course.” She said energetic and cheerfully.

Blaire nodded but she could see from his face that he was not convinced at all.

“I’ll just go upstairs.” She said to him.

“Okay, take some rest, you really look pale.” He said.

She nodded and walked away from him.

Yes, she was still thinking of that man and she was arguing with herself if she would tell Blaire about it.

That night she was not able to sleep properly. Good thing that Blaire needs to finish some work that is why he stayed in his office. She even dreamed of that man in a cap.
