Chapter 25: Chapter 25

He didn't stop running until he had gotten to the lake. As he scanned the area, hoping he would feel the rush of the breeze or the howling of the winds, but he felt nothing at all, because the trees didn't sway as usual, and the lake was still as if time had stopped.

Jasper walked around, he stood in the middle backing the path he'd come from.

"Elena!" "Elena!!" "Elena!!" He called out and scratched his hair. Through emotion he got frustrated and angry, but he kept his cool. "Elena please show your face, I need your help,” he said.

"Elena won't be coming today, so quit calling her name in vain." the voice said behind him.

Jasper jostled and turned to face the direction from which, he heard the voice, but keeping away at a distance.

"Who the hell are you?" He said, as he managed to get his shaky voice under control, and not to show fear in front of this being.

She sucked in her teeth. "Stupid boy!" She groaned out, "Well I'm Elena's mother, Imelda Martins."

"Holy shit!" He exclaimed under his breath.

"What did I hear you say," in an instant she stood towering over him.

Jasper felt as if his heart flew out. He blinked a few times. "I'm sorry, I said nothing," as he breathed hard.

"If you think you and friends will be able to escape this doom, you must be stupid," Imelda said angrily.

Jasper found himself staring at a ghost face to face, it astonished him more to see another one, never in a lifetime did he ever thought about it.

He felt excitement surge through him, but as soon as it came, it almost left; her next statement made him cringe, in utter disdain and nearly puked.

"Like what you see young boy," Imelda said, hands on her waist and batting her eyelashes at him, like a striking a pose.

He almost muttered "Uh" but he didn't want to get her angry, he feared her.

This conversation was pointless; he was expecting to see Elena and not her angry evil mother that looked like the witches from the east end.

He bored her, she said to herself.

"If you don't mind, I will like to take my leave," Jasper announced, walking away from where he stood.

"Of course you're a bore, a total bore," she said and vanished into thin air. Just as she left, Elena appeared almost immediately.

"Great, just great," he surrendered in frustration.

"I will say this as quick as ever, the book is in my grandfather Martins Room, He's my uncle, check it, for in the room; you will find it, you will find your escape," she vanished too.

Jasper sucked on his teeth and walked back home, not caring whether the sun made his skin burns.

He opened the door and went in, crashing himself onto the sofa; he rubbed his face with his palm.

How the hell was the book for their escape? First of all she had said, "Not to read the book," but now "The book was their escape out?"

His friends also sat in the living room, except Danielle who attempted to get across to her parents. She swore she would disown them when all of these were over. After making series of calls with the house phone in the cabin, her mother picked up.

"Danni baby, I'm at work, two minutes," her mother said.

Two minutes was something. Danni thought.

"I'm at Grandpa's cabin and we're stuck, ghost are after us," she said without breathing.

"What!!!!" Her mother screamed. "I'm sorry," she said apologizing to her clients.

"Danni why didn't you mention to us you were going there?"

Danielle scoffed, "Are you being serious mum," she hissed loud. "You gave me two minutes to talk to you, who does that as a mother?" she half screamed at her mother.

"I'm sorry baby," her mother said while Danielle rolled her eyes and hung up angrily.

She walked back to the living room.

"What did she say?" Ivan asked

"Nothing relevant," she replied flippantly.

"The book, like a diary is in your grandfather's room, we just have to look for it there." Jasper told them slowly rising up from the chair. "Let's go find it," he ordered.

Danielle led the way to the room.

After searching for about two hours, they found it stack inside in a box of pictures among the albums and other portraits.

It was old and dusty, the smell of dust hit them hard, and Danielle took a cloth and cleaned it.

"My book of secrets."

"From Aaron to Emily," she smiled.

She was about to open but Jasper dragged it from her. "Don't," he said.
