Chapter 26: Chapter 26
"What do you mean don't" Ezekiel asked staring at him hard.
"Because Elena said we shouldn't, she said this book is cursed, that if we read it, the curse would be on us," Jasper said rashly.
"When did she tell you that? Ruth eyed him.
"Two nights ago, I didn't tell you guys about this, but in as much as this book is our escape, I don't know.” It confused him, but didn't know how to explain the whole thing.
"Jasper, you're going crazy, can you listen to yourself?" Louie said in a sarcastic tone.
"Guys, I'm being serious, maybe there is another way, we could work something out but do not read this book," he pleaded with them.
"First of all you said this book was cursed and second you said it’s also our escape?" Ivan asked nodding his head slightly; he sulked his tongue, "Can't you see this ghost of an Elena is messing with your brain?"
"Snap out of it" Ezekiel said angrily and shoved him hard, Jasper staggered, and Louie collected the book from him.
He handed the book to Danielle.
"Danni don't," Jasper, begged her.
Danielle then ignored him.
"Don't read it," he half yelled.
"Why," she questioned him with a smirk appearing at the corner of her lips.
"Because she said so," he yelled again.
"Who believes a ghost," she asked mockingly.
Stacie wanted to say yes, but she didn't want to be seen as a stupid person like Jasper. Ruth decided against it too.
Jasper looked at Ruth but she looked away, it was obvious now that anything he said would fall on deaf ears.
He nodded his head slowly. "Okay"
He was about to leave, but he stopped and looked at his girlfriend.
"Anjali before all of this is over, I just want you to know that I love you so much but..." He lingers for a second.
"We're over," he left.
Ruth felt as if a bomb just dropped on her, she clutched her chest tightly and a drop of tears slipped down from her eyes. She believed him and thought it was over over without thinking of the consequences. Louie hugged her, and they all took turns to hug her.
"Hey, when all of this is over, you’ll settle your differences, I guess he's just upset, we won't leave him here, all of us are leaving this place together." Louie assured her, and she nodded in affirmation.
Unbeknown to them, Imelda stood beside the window laughing at them, whilst the other ghost family members were feeling pity for the college students.
By now the sun was about to go down, and the moon would soon be out, as Jasper sat outside on the front porch, swinging his phone in his hand. He didn't regret breaking up with Ruth, as she had told him she believed him. Why couldn't she stand by him, even Stacie and Ivan? He sucked on his teeth and sneered, when his phone beeped, looking at it his heart leapt for joy and he quickly texted his eldest brother in response.
Jasper, "Brother don't let mom know but please I will need you to get me as soon as possible from this hell of a place, I'll explain what's going on when you come, this cabin is as creepy as fuck and its haunted." He added the address, a smiley and I love you brother," as he hit the send button, and it took two minutes before it showed delivered, a minute later he got a message from his brother.
Josh: "The day after tomorrow, I'd come over, I'm kind of busy, but I promise I’ll come to get you and must tell me everything. Everything Jasper, love you too Kiddo."
Jasper: "Okay brother, just so you know, network is shitty as hell here."
This time after the message had shown delivered, his service went off.
Jasper was happy he got through to his brother, and was happier he would leave here soon.
Jasper swore he would visit a therapist when all of this was over else he could go mad. He must forget the memory of this place, but it wasn't possible at the moment. So, he must seek help immediately.
