Chapter 16: Chapter 16

"Why is he not back yet?" Patrick asked, his voice laced with impatience, he was restless since his boyfriend Ivan left the house. Worry took him thinking something bad had happened to him. His prayer was Ivan would be fine and alive wherever he was.

"Hey, why don't you take a seat?" Louie told him for the fifth time, "Please Patrick, just calm down I'm sure he's fine."

He added with concern in his tone and walked to the window where Patrick stood. Patting his shoulders, he held his hand and took him to sit on the sofa.

“We should go out and look for him,” he said his eyes examining the environment. Whenever he was nervous, he would chew on his nails, and would not even calm down. He recalled an occasion, when he and Ivan lost themselves at the park although they had phones and signals to locate each other, but he couldn't reach him anywhere as panic took him over.

So he got up to pick a torch from the kitchen cabinet, his friends didn't need to ask him questions, seeing him held the torchlight they hurried after him, and the girls trailed behind the guys.

Louie stopped facing the girls, as they stopped in their tracks almost jamming into one another and caused Ruth to lose stability on her feet, but was thankful Louie held Her.

"You guys should stay back, if we're not back anytime soon, look for us in the morning," he told them.

"Babe wait, you may need an extra torch, let me get one for you," Stacie told him. She went into the kitchen and handed him the torch. Quickening his steps he chased after the guys.

“Whoa! What are we going to do?” Ruth questioned, straddling her arms around the neck. She looked at Stacie and Danielle, but they didn't respond. She gave up trying to light up their moods and so she sat on the armchair.

Danielle whilst tapping one foot on the ground, reached for her phone and dialed each of her parent’s number, but as usual the phones went into voicemail. It made her to resent the action of her parents.

On what to do she thought hard on it, as she rubbed her forehead and face creased with worries. There she decided they'd leave the cabin back home tomorrow. Everybody sat quiet saying nothing.

Only the tick tock of the old clock that was above their heads and the cricket sounds outside the house were heard. All of a sudden, the light bulb flickered, as if about to go off.

"What's happening?" "Why is the light doing that?" Stacie scared, asked. Sooner said, the lights flicked off, the two girls in fear jumped to sit on Ruth. They knew her as the fearless in her friend’s circle.

"Do something Ruth," Danielle screamed tightening her grip on Ruth's neck.

"How do you expect me to do something while you both are literally sitting on me," she replied in a scream. "God! I'm going to suffocate and die," she added.

With that tone, the two girls moved away so she could breathe well.

In a commanding tone "Let's go check what's up with the lights.” Ruth said.

The three of them held hands together, "We're going to the barn house outside." They said.

Ruth switched on her phone flashlight whilst Stacie reached for the door, turning the handle, but it did not turn, and the door would not open.
