Chapter 17: Chapter 17
"Oh God! What are we going to do?" Stacie cried, pacing back and forth, and rubbing her sweaty palms on her forehead. Ruth went forward to try the door, but the door remained shut, and she peeked outside to see if the boys were on their way back, but they weren't, then she gazed to the left side of the window and screamed.
"Take a look outside" covering her mouth to muffle the sounds she made. The two girls looked at one another, whilst Stacie bent her head scratching the back of her neck and refused to look at her friends again.
Danielle walked closer to the window, looking to her left side and saw some people; they looked paler than usual, eight in number, as she jumped back with fright. An immediate sweats covered her. Stacie wanted to look but Ruth held her back, gnashing at her.
"You're scared already, you'd faint if you see that," she chuckled.
Although she was scared too, but hid it well. This time she took deep breaths and touched the handle of the door to turn and it gave way.
She looked outside the eight unusual people still stood, the girls knew they were ghosts but it scared to believe the image before them. Ruth noticed they had not left their spots; her instincts told her they would not chase after or try to hurt them. With that believe she heaved a long sigh.
Facing her friends "We're going out now, we have to do this, to stick together, so hold my hands," she stretched out her two hands for her them to hold but Stacie refused, "I'm not going," she said in fear folding her arms and shaking her head.
"Then you're going to have to stay here, alone," Ruth blatantly told her.
Rolling her eyes "I can't stay here alone, Danni will stay with me, while you go out alone" she said.
"Are you kidding me right now, she's going with me incase if I need help. And why should we not stick together?"
She picked up the torchlight, she dropped on the chair, and prepared her mind to go out, "Danielle let's go" she said holding her hand but Danielle dropped her hand instead, "I have to stay her with her, she can't stay alone, you know she's scared of the dark."
"Fucking ask her; why she's not coming, why has she changed her mind?" Ruth got upset.
"I don't know" Stacie replied.
"Ruth why don't you go alone and I'm not sure you'd need any help, you can take two torches," Danielle told her, sitting besides Stacie.
Ruth shocked, said, "So you guys are letting me go out there alone, with eight unusual people standing out there, while you both sit here and do what?"
Her voice laced with pains "We're together, we've to stay together, I mean I've always known Stacie before you, you are our best friend because your boyfriend has always been a part of us" Danielle said, still holding Stacie.
At this point Ruth couldn't believe what she just heard, she looked from Stacie to Danielle, shaking her head and laughed slightly. Then she held the doorknob to steady herself. Tears formed in her eyes, the last two years and three months they had spent together made her to believe they love each other. Ruth thought she had found a true friendship since she lost her best friend four years a go through death’
Pained by her friends’ actions, she felt as if someone had broken her heart once again with a hammer, this was too much for her.
"So you all have pretended like I'm part of you, because I'm with Jasper. You all don’t accept me with sincerity.” I never would have thought.
Stacie stood up and held her "I'm sorry, we're sorry, you're a great person Ruth, we love you, you're one of us, you're always part of us, I'm sure Danni didn't mean that, she knows not what she said."
Ruth replied in anger, "Of course she knows what she said. I'm sure she does. It's not like you two are true with me anyway. Remember, sometimes you guys go out together, do things together and leave me out. And when I go out with you guys you exclude from your conversations. Lord knows I bear with you guys, putting up with your silly attitudes and only come to me when you need my help, for example for school works or when the guys organize an outing. I should be home with my family for the Buddha festival, but I chose to come here, to please you guy. Now look as ghosts hunted or whatever," she sniffed.
”Danielle it is always you, trying to act like you have everything. You own no one; though you sometimes force everybody and anyone to do what you want. You're so selfish and stupid. It’s your goddamn fault we're stuck here.
Friendship is very important and when you lose it, one has to start up from scratch. Then when you think you've found friends, true ones, you get to realize that it is an act," she complained.
Using her palms she wiped the tears from staining face and continued, "After all this is over, and we're done, I'm not going to break up with my boyfriend Jasper, but you all will see less of me including your boyfriend Louie. I know he doesn't really like me, but I don't care." She flipped her hair in disgust and walked out.
Danielle regretted what she said. Deep down she loved Ruth, but she was jealous of her prettiness and smartness. She felt inferior to her and had to wave the feeling off.
“ You shouldn't have said that" Stacie scolded her.
