Chapter 9: Chapter 9

Author’s POV

“She can not date you Law because she is my girlfriend” Chase said from behind Cara.

All the heads whipped in the direction of the door of the classroom where Chase was standing with George and John.

But Cara was still frozen to her place upon hearing his voice. Sapphire glanced back at Chase who has now started walking in their direction then she looked at her friend, who didn’t even move to look back.

Chase came and stood beside Cara. He glanced at her face for a moment to find her beyond shocked because of his words, as he expected.

Then his eyes moved to Law who was looking at his face with a weird kind of expression, which he didn’t expect at all.

After few seconds Law composed his look and asked, “What did you say?”

“Just what you heard.” Chase replied.

Law chuckled at his words, “And you want me to believe that? Look at her face, she doesn’t even know what’s going on”.

“She knows exactly what I mean” Chase said and turned his head around to look at Cara who still looked confused.

“Right beloved” he asked and she lifted her eyes up to look into his eyes. He was looking at her in such a way which said ‘Don’t you dare deny’.

So she just nodded her head and whispered ‘Yes’, intimidated by his cold eyes.

Chase didn’t like the look in her eyes but just ignored it and averted his attention back to Law.

“You heard her. Now, did you get the answer to the question which you asked yesterday? ‘Why was I so worked up?’ you asked right” Chase gritted taking a step closer towards him.

“Because you f**ked up bastard dared to touch my girl” he snarled at his face and he heard Cara’s gasp. But he ignored it.

Right now taking care of this bastard was more important.

Law's eyes widened at his tone, clearly scared by his anger but didn’t back off.

“Are you trying to get back at me? I know we don’t get along well. Are you doing it because I said I like her?” Law asked.

But as soon as those words left his mouth, Chase grabbed him by his collar and growled at his face, “Don’t you dare say those words again. You are not allowed to like her, no one is. She is mine”.

He pushed him away and turned around to face the crowd.

“If I find out anyone trying to mess with her when I am not around, I swear you will find out what this beast called Chase Adams can really do. And I am sure no one will be able to handle that side of mine” he said loud and clear.

“So everyone who is present here should go and spread this news, in which you all are experts. Every single soul in this campus must engrave my words in their minds and stay away from her” he pointed in Cara’s direction.

He again turned around to glare at Law and said but this time in low voice so that only who were standing close could hear him.

“You got that? You. Will. Be. Staying. Away. From. Her.” He emphasized each and every word.

He took a step closer towards Law and continued, “Or else no one will be able to save you from my monster. Not even your Dad”.

Law swallowed hard and no one could blame him for that.

Chase looked murderous.

"And about what you said yesterday that my enemies are going to use her as my weakness, I think you misunderstood big time. Because no in here is courageous enough to stand against me when my beast is on display" he whispered even more low, only for Law to hear.

Chase turned around and his eyes met with Cara’s scared ones. He could see that she was not happy at all with what he just did. He even noticed anger flicker in her eyes.

But fear was the emotion which was dominating her features and why she wasn’t saying anything.

He ignored all of those emotions and grabbed her hand and started walking, to take her out of here.

But stopped when he felt she suddenly stopped walking. He turned around and found Sapphire was holding her other hand, stopping them from moving forward.

He narrowed his eyes at the girl. Sapphire gulped down her saliva and ignored the dangerous look he was giving her.

She looked at Cara who was looking at her face in shock as well as confusion.

“Will you be okay?” Sapphire asked in a whisper but Chase heard her.

He knew that she is worried for Cara and really appreciated that she was willing to stand against him for her friend. But right now his anger was uncontrollable, even for him too.

“What are you trying to do Sapphire?” he asked in his cold voice. Cara noticed the anger in his tone and a shiver went down her spine.

She doesn’t want him to hurt Sapphire. She glanced in direction of Chase who had already noticed the goosebumps that appeared on her bare arms because of his tone, and was staring right into her eyes.

She again looked at Sapphire and gave her a small smile whispering back, “I am okay Sapphire. Don’t worry”.

“But…” Sapphire wanted to protest. Yes she was scared of Chase but she was more scared for Cara.

“I will be okay, I promise. I will be back soon” she said.

Chase didn’t wait another second and started walking her out of the classroom. Student crawled to the side making the way for them.

Cara didn’t want to go with him. She was scared of him, of his anger. He looked beyond angry at the moment.

And he was.

This is not what he planned. This is not what was supposed to happen. He was just going to come here and talk with her.

He wanted to tell her about the danger he might have unintentionally diverted in her direction by his reckless actions.

He just wanted to tell her to be friends with him so that he could hang around her, keep an eyes on her. Protect her from those who tried to come at her in order to get back at him.

He knew if she would be with him, no one would dare to mess with her or hurt her. That is why he came to college today.

To talk it out with her.

But when he heard Law asking her to date him, he forgot everything. The only thing he wanted to do at that moment was beat the hell out of Law but he knew Cara won’t like it. And might just run away from him again.

So before he knew what he was doing, the words that she is his girlfriend left his mouth.

But he is not angry over that part. It was even more better than being a friend. It would allow him even more time around her once she agrees to comply with his plan.

But main problem was, how he reacted afterwards.

The anger he felt when Law repeated his words that he likes Cara, was beyond him. Chase couldn’t take it well this time.

And to fuel his anger even more he saw an emotion in his eyes which he didn’t like at all. Law seemed honest when he said those words.

His anger again took control of him. He didn’t like the fact that someone else really had feelings for her.

He could not imagine her dating someone else. He felt possessive over her. As if she only belonged to him. That no one else except him should think about her.

And this is what driving him crazy.

Why is he feeling like this? Why can’t he digest the fact that someone can like her, that she can date someone else?

Why is he feeling so possessive over her? What does she mean to him?

On the other hand Cara just followed him, scared to go against him. His each and every word was still repeating itself in her mind.

She is confused right now, because of his behaviour. He looked genuinely angry when he was shouting and threatening everyone in the classroom.

It was as if he didn’t like someone else confessing their feelings for her. Is she again thinking too much into his actions?

Is she reading him wrong?

Yesterday night’s event flashed in her memories. He told her not to be scared of him.

When she asked him so many questions yesterday, he said that he will answer her questions in the college.

So, is this his answer? That he wants to date with her.

She knows he said that she was his girlfriend to save her from Law. He was trying to tell everyone who had bad intention towards her, to stay away from her.

She understood that much. But the part where he lost his temper, where he started behaving like a possessive boyfriend, was what bothering her at this moment.

She doesn’t know if she should listen to her heart or her mind. Her heart is convincing her to believe those gray eyes which tell that she doesn’t have to be scared of him.

But her mind is always reminding her that he might just be trying to do all of this to get back at her. He might have some ulterior motives for approaching her. Just like she suspected Law.

Or else why would he call her his girlfriend in front of everyone, if not to tick Law off?

They have met just few times then why would he worry about her. But the concern in his eyes when he came to her room last night was so real.

Cara is good at reading people by their behaviours, by looking in their eyes. And all she sees in Chase’s eyes for herself is softness, genuine care and something else which is hard to decipher.

But it is not something which is harmful. She never saw any danger in his eyes for her.

And today she noticed possessiveness in his tone, his actions.

Is she being delusional? Should she trust her mind or should go with her heart? She doesn’t know.

Chase turned into a hallway which was completely empty. He entered into an empty classroom, pulling her with him and closed the door behind him.

She looked up to see his face. He wasn’t looking at her. He was deep in thoughts, his jaw set, anger clear in those gray eyes.

Her heartbeat increased even more. He was very angry. And she didn’t know if this anger was directed towards her or someone else.

He still didn’t let her hand go and she was scared to pull it out of his grip.

His phone started ringing and he came out of his thoughts. He fished his phone out of his pocket and answered immediately.

“Yeah John”

“Are you okay bro? What happened suddenly? Why did you change the plan?” John asked.

“I don’t know why I did that. I know that I f**ked our plan but that Law was getting on my nerves” Chase replied in annoyance.

Plan, Cara thought.

It was all a plan. For what?

To annoy Law. To get back at Law. Just like Law used her yesterday to tick Chase off, Chase used her to get back at him. It was just a game for them. They were just using her.

It angered Cara and she pulled her hand out of Chase’s hold with a jerk.

It caught Chase’s attention and he saw the anger in her eyes overpowering the fear that was present there earlier.

He disconnected the call telling John that he will call back. His eyes fixed on Cara who was currently glaring at his face.

“Let me explain...” Chase started but was cut off by her.

“What are you going to explain? That you just used me out there to annoy Law, huh?” she asked.

“Listen Cara. I was just…” he was again cut off when she said, “I know you and Law don’t get along. I found out but that doesn’t mean you guys can use me to play with each other, to challenge each other”.

Chase took a step closer towards her losing his patience. He was already on the verge of losing his mind and she is making him even more angry by not listening to him.

Cara instinctively took a step back and her back hit the door. And now she realized that they didn’t even move away from the door after entering into the classroom.

“Shut up. First listen to what I am trying to say” he said. She swallowed when she realized that he was standing into her personal space.

“I am not using you to annoy anyone. I am not trying to use you. I don’t have to. I am capable enough to annoy anyone I want, by my own self”

“About the plan… I will tell you but not here… let’s get out of here” he said and was about to grab her hand again but she moved it away from his reach.

He again locked his eyes with hers, raising a brow questioningly, not liking her resistance even a bit.

“I don’t trust you” Cara said. Now finally deciding to listen to her mind instead of heart.

She is scared of talking back with people and angering them, that’s right. Terrified even. But she won’t tolerate these people anymore. Not when they are just trying to play with her as if she is their toy.

Chase’s jaw clenched in anger.

“You two are just playing with me. He kissed me yesterday to make you angry and I don’t know why it worked in the first place” she said.

He was just glaring at her while taking deep breaths, trying to control his anger so that he won’t scare her or worse hurt her. He won’t like to do that to her, he knows.

“Today you declared that I am your girlfriend, I belong to you, as if I am a plaything of some kind.”

“Cara..” he warned her but she ignored it.

“And tomorrow to annoy you even more Law is going to take me to his bed so that he can f**k…..”

She could not complete her sentence when he suddenly grabbed her face in between his palms covering the distance between them, leaving no space at all.

Her back pressed more into the door and her eyes widened at his sudden action. Her breath hitched when she realized that he is standing impossibly close to her.

Her widened eyes met with his angry ones, his breathing was coming out heavy, clearly furious and this time she knew it was directed towards her.

“Shut up before I lose my control”.
