Author's POV

“Shut up before I lose my control” he spat through gritted teeth. His ragged breath was fanning her face, making her heart to pound in her chest.

“Stop talking, I don’t want to hear that s**t from your mouth” he growled but Cara didn’t even flinch at his tone this time.

She was shocked and at the same time confused. She was not able to understand the reason behind his anger, whenever she talks about what Law did and might do to her.

“Take you to his bed? F**k yu…Damn!” He paused not being able to repeat her words without losing his temper.

“I will kill that bastard Law or anyone else if they even tried coming close to you after today. You heard me? I will kill that person” he said in dangerously low tone and Cara could see the madness in his eyes.

“You asked me yesterday why I was so angry when that bastard Law kissed you, right?”

“It’s because I can’t see anyone else around you, but that f**ker dared to touch you” he grated and this time a shiver went down her spine because of the anger in his tone.

“You wouldn’t even want to imagine what I wanted to do with him when I saw that scene in cafeteria. You don’t know how I controlled myself from killing him” he told her.

“Why? Why would you do that, huh?” Cara asked ignoring the fear in her heart.

“Because you are mine” the words left his mouth without him knowing. Cara’s eyes widened and she felt a flip in her stomach.

“Because I don’t want any other guy around you who is not me. I want you to be with me” he said while staring deeply into her eyes. His heart was pounding against his chest at an abnormal speed.

“So what… what you said there in the classroom… was it true? .. I thought you were just trying to save me from Law” she asked the question which was bothering her.

Chase closed his eyes for few seconds and inhaled a sharp breath. Then he opened his eyes to again lock them with her shocked ocean blue ones.

“I.. actually I… f**k!” he cursed under his breath for not being able to talk. His erratically beating heart was not helping at all.

He loosened his hold on her face and took a step away from her, thinking that it might help him to control his heartbeat.

He again closed his eyes rubbing his face with his palms. All the while Cara was just staring at him, waiting for his answer.

“First you have to listen to what I am going to say and without interrupting me. Only after hearing the whole thing, you have to make a decision. Don’t reach to any conclusions without hearing everything that I am about to say, okay?” he asked.

She frowned a little at his words but nodded her head.

“I think I have put you in danger because of what I did yesterday in cafeteria with Law” he paused to check her reaction but it didn’t shock Cara.

Sapphire had told her about this. She didn’t say it directly but she told Cara that being associated with Chase might put her in danger.

So she already understood that just like how Law used her yesterday to irritate Chase, others might do it as well.

When Cara didn’t react, Chase continued, “That is why I wanted to ask you to be my friend. I wanted to be around you so that whoever wants to use you to mess with me will remove that thought from their minds, if they see us together all the time”.

Cara was listening to him carefully. She could see that he was telling the truth.

“But now that I think about it, I just wanted to stay close to you”

“Because before you, I never cared for anyone else. It didn’t matter to me if someone else was getting in trouble because of me. Hell, I never got involved in someone else’s matter without any reason”

“But when I heard Law asking you to date him, I couldn’t control the anger building inside me. Before I knew what I was doing, I told everyone that you are my girlfriend” Chase confessed everything truthfully.

He didn’t know what was wrong with him. He has never explained himself in front of anyone. He is used to doing things as he pleases and never explained his actions. He was never this honest about his feelings to anyone.

But right now he was doing it for this girl, he has just met few days ago. He is trying to explain his actions in front of her. He doesn’t want her to misunderstand him.

He is telling her about his true feelings, which he doesn’t even do in front of his best friends that often. Even his friends doesn’t get to know what he is thinking most of the time.

But this girl in front of him is making him do something which he has never done.

He again closed the distance between them and stood in front of her. Cara was just glued to her place still unable to get out of the shock his words were causing.

His hands reached to cup her face. His fingers wrapping around the back of her neck, his thumbs were rubbing her cheeks softly.

His eyes fell on her lips for a moment before they again met with her eyes.

“But I was not lying when I said that I would not leave anyone alone if they tried to mess with you. And I am not using you for any reason” he said looking into her eyes.

“I don’t know what is this that I am feeling but one thing is for sure that I want to be with you”

Cara was just so overwhelmed by everything that he was saying. Her heartbeat has increased to an abnormal level.

She could feel butterflies in her stomach upon hearing the sincerity in his tone, upon seeing the honesty in his eyes.

But is it okay for her to feel something for this guy?

All of this is just too much for her. She is unsure, what to do at this moment.

She can’t deny the effect his actions, his words have on her. She can not ignore the fact that there is something in her heart that she feels for him. But doesn’t know what exactly is this feeling.

She needs time, to think. To process everything that just happened.

“Do I get to deny, if I don’t want to date you? If I don’t want to be your girlfriend?” she asked. She want to know the consequences of not doing what he wants.

Hurt flashed in his eyes and it didn’t go unnoticed by Cara. He quickly masked his emotions as he replied, “No, you can’t deny. You will have to become my girlfriend”.

Cara gulped in fear, wondering if he is going to force her to be his girlfriend or what. But his next words relaxed her anxious heart.

“We have to do it for your safety, until I am sure that you are not in trouble because of me anymore” he said again being completely honest.

“So it’s up to you. If you want to pretend to be my girlfriend for a time being just to show others or… you can really try being my real girlfriend…” he paused when she bit her lower lip between his teeth in nervousness.

His thumb traced her face until it reached her bottom lip. He tugged on her lip with his thumb, pulling it away from her teeth. All the while his eyes were glued to her pink plumps and her gaze fixed on his face.

He lightly rubbed her lower lip as he whispered, “Because I really want to be your real boyfriend..” he lifted his eyelids and his gray orbs bore into her blue ones as he continued, “I want to date you, for real”.

He admitted his true feelings. He knows he is being selfish. A girl like Cara doesn’t belong with a jerk like him. She is too precious to be with a worthless bastard like him.

But he want to at least give it a try. He never thought he would want to be with a girl except for the se**al pleasures.

But this girl standing in front of him has hooked him on something which is not letting him stay away from her.

So he has a right to follow his heart for once, right?

Cara’s breathing was coming out heavy. She doesn’t even know what is wrong with her body. She doesn’t know why his words always leave her feeling weak in her knees.

“Let me… let me think about… it” she whispered breathlessly, not being able to hide the impact his proximity was causing her.

He retrieved his hands from her and took few steps away. He pushed his hands in his pockets, to stop himself from doing anything which will push her away from him.

He nodded his head while saying, “Okay, you can think about it and let me know, which way you want it. Fake or real”.

She clutched her bag in her fists as she nodded her head.

“I know it must be too much for you. We have just met few days ago so it is obvious for you to be confused and doubtful. And I know my reputation doesn’t help either” he said.

He might be a jerk but he is not stupid. He would never force a girl to be with him, by scaring her or lying to her.

He knows what kind of girl Cara is. She would never want to be with a guy who would force himself on her. She might seem timid and a girl who gets scared easily.

But the way she talked to him earlier when she thought he was just using her as a toy, she stood for herself though she was scared. She spoke for herself, she stood for her dignity.

He knows that she is not going to trust him easily but he is willing to wait.

Why? He doesn’t know.

“To be honest even I am shocked by how I reacted in front of everyone. I don’t know how just in few days you started affecting me so much. Even I am not sure what is it that I am feeling but I want to find out, with you”.

Cara was speechless by his honesty. She never thought a person could be this honest about something. It was as if he has left himself, his emotions bare in front of her.

Can she be this honest with him, with her feelings towards him? Can she admit the effect he has on her like he did just now.

They were staring into each other’s eyes, when someone knocked on the door of the classroom. Chase opened the door to find John, George and Sapphire standing outside.

When Chase’s eyes fell on Sapphire she instinctively hid behind George. She was so worried for her friend but when George told her that Chase will never hurt Cara, she knew he was not lying.

“What happened Chase? Where is Cara?” John asked.

Chase moved away from the door letting them inside. As soon as Sapphire’s eyes fell on Cara, she strode towards her and asked in low voice, “Are you okay?”

Cara nodded her head with a small smile. The bell rang indicating the end of first class.

“You can go and attend your classes” he said and Cara nodded her head. She started walking . She stopped near the door and turned around with wide eyes when he said.

“Meet me in the parking lot, when you are done with your classes. I will drop you to the café” he said.

“Why would you?” Sapphire could not stop herself and asked. Chase averted his gaze from Cara’s face to look at Sapphire and in an instant the softness that was present in his eyes got replaced by coldness, unintentionally.

“I think you were there when I announced that Cara is my girlfriend. So why can’t I drop my girlfriend to her workplace?” he asked the last part while looking at Cara.

And there, again the coldness got replaced by soft look. Chase was oblivious to this change of emotions in his eyes and almost everyone present in the room did not notice it but Cara did.

Sapphire was about to say something when Cara held her hand, silently telling her to not say anything and replied to Chase, “Okay, I will meet you in parking lot”.

Saying this she turned around and walked away with Sapphire, still overwhelmed by the ocean of emotions in which his stormy gray eyes has managed to drown her.
