Chapter 8: Chapter 8
Author’s POV
Cara entered into the classroom and took a deep breath of relief when she saw that no one is here yet. The classroom is empty so now she and Sapphire, both of them can talk in silence.
She settled down on her seat, waiting for Sapphire to come. Sapphire called her as soon as she woke up.
And the reason why she called so early in the morning was a text message that Cara sent her around midnight, telling her about surprise visit of the great Chase Adams himself.
Sapphire had put her phone on silent mode before sleeping that is why she did not get the message at night.
But as soon as she saw her phone in the morning she called Cara immediately, asking if she was okay.
Both of them spoke for a while and Cara said that she will share the details about her conversation with Chase, in the college.
They decided to come to college a little earlier so that not many people would be present in the class.
Cara rested her head on her desk closing her eyes in the process. She could not sleep a wink, the whole night.
She is very confused, not only because of Chase’s behaviour towards her but also by the way she herself has been reacting or behaving around him.
Apart from this, the impact his words, his voice, his stares has on her is something really foreign to her. The whole night she was thinking about him.
After few minutes Sapphire entered into the classroom. She walked towards Cara and pulled her into a hug, releasing a sigh of relief upon seeing her unharmed.
Cara smiled at her friend’s action. In her life there was never someone who she could call a friend except for one person from her orphanage, who is her one and only best friend.
She never thought that she would find such a nice and caring friend like Sapphire in such a short period of time.
Pulling away from the hug both the girls settled down on the chair. Cara told her everything that happened last night. Whole time Sapphire was silent, listening carefully to what her friend was saying.
By the time Cara was done telling her everything, Sapphire was deep in thoughts. She remembered the way Chase was asking her about Cara yesterday.
Even though he was being his cold emotionless bastard self, he looked genuinely concerned for Cara.
“What are you thinking Saph?” Cara asked.
“You know Cara, after you left yesterday, Chase came to meet me. He was asking about you. He was worried for you” Sapphire said.
Cara has also noticed concern in his eyes for herself. But why?
They don’t even know each other. And the way he portrays himself, he doesn’t seem like the kind of person who would be concerned for someone.
So why her?
The students started arriving in the class. Sapphire held Cara’s hand and whispered, “Don’t worry. Nothing is going to happen. I know Chase is dangerous but one thing I can assure you is that he won’t hurt you physically. He has never hurt woman before”.
He also said the same thing yesterday, she thought.
“But if somehow he tries to hurt you, I will be by your side. I may not be as powerful as him but I won’t leave my friend alone in such a mess” Sapphire completed.
Cara smiled at her friend’s words and nodded her head, blinking back the tears which were threatening to fall from her eyes.
By now the class was filled with students waiting for the class to start. The class representative entered into the classroom announcing that first lecture has been cancelled due to some reasons.
The students slowly started leaving the class to spend their free time with their friends, either by going to library or cafeteria or anywhere else.
Only half of the students were left in class now. Sapphire and Cara also decided to go to cafeteria and have breakfast as both of them came earlier they didn’t even have their coffee.
They got up from the chair and turned around to make their way out of the class when both of them froze on their places.
There, Law was standing with his friends at the entrance of their classroom. He walked towards Cara and Sapphire held her hand.
“I want to talk with you Cara” Law said. He looked like last night he didn’t sleep properly. But Cara has had enough of him now.
“I don’t want to hear anything from you” Cara replied gathering all of her courage. She side stepped him and started walking in the direction of door but Law grabbed her wrist in his hand.
She turned around with a scowl on her face but still tried saying softly, “Let me go Law”.
“Please Cara just….” He was cut off by Sapphire when she said, “Let her go Law. Can’t you see that she is not comfortable around you. And after what you did yesterday….” She trailed off not wanting to complete her sentence and make Cara uncomfortable.
“I know Sapphire… but please Cara just few minutes” he said the last part almost pleading, looking at Cara’s face.
For the first time Law seemed genuine and Cara didn’t notice any malice in his eyes.
She nodded her head, “Okay but let go of my hand”. Sapphire wanted to say something but Cara squeezed her hand, assuring her that she is okay.
Law let her hand go and said, “Cara.. about yesterday I am sorry. I shouldn’t have kissed you without your permission”.
Cara didn’t find any hint of lie in his eyes and could feel his sincerity in his tone.
“Just for that? Shouldn’t you be sorry for another reason as well?” Cara asked. Law understood what she was referring to.
“I am sorry for how I talked with you. I shouldn’t have said something like that about you and Chase” he apologized.
“Thank you for apologizing. I hope that you are going to leave me alone from now on” Cara said. She is scared and is shivering from inside.
She is not a kind of person who talks back with anyone but when it comes to her dignity, she can’t let her fear rule her mind. She has to protect her dignity by herself.
“That I can’t do Cara. I can’t leave you alone…” Law said but was cut off by Cara when she asked
“Why can’t you? If you are trying to approach me because of Chase then let me tell you I don’t have anything to do with him” Cara explained.
“It’s good then because even I don’t have anything to do with him” Law said taking a step closer to her.
“Then why can’t you leave me alone?” Cara asked, somehow dreading his answer.
“Because I like you Cara” he said and Cara’s eyes widened at his words.
“She is not like the girls you associate yourself with Law. She is not your one night stand kind of girl” Sapphire said for her friend, knowing too well about Law’s mentality towards women.
He likes using girls for his pleasure and then throws them away once he gets bored with them.
“I know she is not that kind of girl Sapphire. And I am not saying anything so that I can bring her to my bed. I have really started liking her”
He averted his attention back to Cara and said, “I really like you Cara and I want to date you. And I am being genuine, no ulterior motive”.
The students in class were watching the scene unfolding in front of their eyes. The students from another class were also gathered around the windows and door of the classroom watching the biggest playboy of their college confessing his feelings in front of a girl.
“So Cara can you give me a chance?” he asked hopefully.
Cara was shocked. She never expected him to say something like this to her. It was more shocking than him announcing in front of everyone that he wants to sleep with her, on her first day in college.
And what she never expected was the sincerity in his eyes when he said those words. The lies she used to see in his eyes, the bad feeling he used to give to her was nowhere to be found.
He was not lying when he said that there is no ulterior motive behind his words. But should she trust her instinct? It can always be wrong, right?
She is confused because of his words and the emotions in his eyes.
But she is sure about one thing and that is she does not have any feelings for him. She doesn’t want to date Law.
“Law I…” she started but was cut off by the deep voice that boomed in the classroom from behind her as the person said,
“She can not date you Law because she is my girlfriend”.
