Author’s POV

“What happened Chase? What did you say to her?” John asked as soon as Cara and Sapphire left the classroom.

“I asked her to be my girlfriend” Chase replied while sitting on one of the chairs in class.

“That we already saw. You changed your plan and asked her to pretend to be your girlfriend instead, right?” John asked.

Chase closed his eyes and rubbed his aching temple with his fingers while saying, “No.. I asked her to be my real girlfriend. I asked her to date me for real”.

And it shocked both John and George.

“What? What… did you do?” it was George this time.

“I asked her if she would like to be my girlfriend for real” Chase replied now opening his eyes.

“What did she say?” asked John.

“She needs time to think about it” Chase replied.

“You didn’t threaten her right?” George asked in unsure tone.

Chase glared at his friend with look on his face which says, ‘Are you serious?’

“Sorry, I know you would never do that. But I just couldn’t stop myself from asking” George apologized and sat on another chair in front of him.

“Why did you do it? I know it’s not to piss Law off for sure. Then why? Do you like her?” George asked all seriously now.

Chase’s eyes widened at his question.

Does he really?

He doesn’t even know how it feels to like someone. In this twenty years of his life he had only been in one kind of relationship with a girl.

And that is, sexual.

He hasn’t even dated anyone in his entire life. He doesn’t know what you feel when you like someone.

But he does know that what he feels for Cara is something he has never felt before. Not even close. He doesn’t know what those feelings actually are.

‘From where did this idea of asking her to date you came to your mind Chase?’ he asked himself.

“I don’t know man what got over me when I asked her to be my girlfriend” he paused to take a deep breath.

“But I know one thing that I hated it when Law was asking her to be his girlfriend. I just wanted to destroy everything when I saw him kiss… f**k it” he cursed loudly, always finding it difficult to utter those words.

“Here’s the thing guys, I think I can not tolerate her being with other guys who is not me. I don’t know why is that? From where those feelings came? Or I like her or not?”

“I just know that I want to be with her. If I have to try this dating thing with her so that I can be close to her and keep other f**kers who try to approach her away, then be it that way. I will date her. It can’t be too difficult that I can’t even try, right?” he told his friends everything truthfully.

Both John and George kept staring at his face for a while. They were not able to believe what Chase was saying.

Chase was never interested in women. Yeah he sleeps around to fulfill the needs he has but many of the times he doesn’t even know the name of the girls.

While John and George like to flirt around sometimes, Chase most of the times sits besides his friends letting them do their things. Not even bothering to give attention to the girls who drool over him just with a single glance at him.

But here he is explaining his unknown emotions he has been feeling for a girl who he has just met a few times till now.

“Okay man you can try if she agrees but you have to keep one thing in your mind all the time” George paused to find Chase looking at him.

He glanced in John’s direction for a moment before stating, “Always remember that the girls like Cara, the good girls, don’t belong with bastards like us”.

Upon hearing his comment Chase’s eyes also moved to John who was oddly silent during whole conversation.

After few seconds John nodded his head and said, “He is right Chase. They are too good for guys like us. They would never prefer to be with us.”.

Chase held John’s shoulder for a second giving it a light squeeze.

John smiled at his friend and said, “You can try it out with her. But I just want to say one thing bro. Don’t go in too deep, don’t get so deeply involved that it would become hard for you to come out”.

“At any moment if you realize that it isn’t going to work, just come out. You are understanding what I mean right?” John asked.

Chase was so shocked that he was having this kind of conversation with his buddies. He was getting relationship advice from this two punks who he calls his friends.

But deep inside he was happy that his friends were with him on this, whatever he was getting himself into.

On the other hand Cara was just so overwhelmed by everything that has been going in her life since she has moved in to this town. Or she should say since she has met that gray eyed guy.

First his friends were bullying her friend Aria and when she got involved to save her, Chase just let her and Aria go after having a weird interaction with her.

Then she somehow managed to witness him bullying a guy in broad daylight in the college building itself.

Then her weird locker room interaction with him where she didn’t even know what was wrong with her own body when she was blushing, being locked into his arms.

Then the guy came out of nowhere and saved her from Law while getting all possessive and protective over her.

His uncalled visit to her dorm room. And lastly him claiming her as his in front of the entire college.

Not a single interaction between them was normal. Not a single one.

As if it was not enough, he literally asked her to be his real girlfriend, out of nowhere.

Currently Cara is attending the last class for the day then she will be free to go to her work.

She told everything to Sapphire that Chase has said to her in that empty classroom. They didn’t go to cafeteria to eat during lunch break.

Sapphire heard everything carefully but when Cara told her that Chase has asked her to be his girlfriend, she was shocked.

She knew the fact that Chase has never dated, or even looked at a girl with softness in his eyes.

She told Cara about this. She told her that Chase has never had a girlfriend before, at least as far as she knows him.

He was never seen going around to places with girls. He never flirts with girls.

It’s a known fact in the Victoria University that Chase only sleeps around with girls, no strings attached and nothing else.

Cara was still wondering what should she say to him as a response to his… proposal to be his girlfriend… if you could describe it like that.

She can’t deny the impact he has on her, she agrees on that.

Apart from this, despite she knows that he is the infamous bully and dangerous guy to be around, she noticed she isn’t really scared of him when he is not being violent.

She doesn’t know why but that is the truth, she realized.

But are these reasons enough to say yes and become his girlfriend? Can she really do that? This is what she is thinking about at the moment.

The bell rang indicating the end of the class. She came out of her thoughts with the sound.

God she is going to lose her scholarship at this rate if she didn’t pay attention in the class and kept zoning out of this world all the time.

She should pay more attention to her studies instead of thinking about Chase and other things that are going on in her life. She made a note in her head.

Cara said bye to Sapphire who had one more class. After slinging her bag to her shoulder, Cara came out of classroom, still deep in her thoughts.

Her heart nearly popped out of her chest due to surprise when her eyes fell on Chase who was standing outside of her classroom, leaning against the wall beside the door.

Her hand went to her heart as she gasped out, “Oh got, you scared me”. She said it under her breath but he heard her and lifted his head up from his phone to look at her shocked face.

“What.. what are you doing here?” she asked while trying to calm her rapidly beating heart.

“You done with your classes right?” he asked instead of replying. She nodded her head while fiddling with the strap of her bag because of nervousness.

“Let’s go” he said while pushing his phone into his pocket and taking her hand in his. He started walking her out of there.

Everyone cleared the way for them or you should say for the beast himself.

Cara just followed him without any struggle or protest. Her eyes fell on their interlinked hands and warmth spread in her heart. She liked the feeling of his big hand against hers.

‘Oh Cara, you are going crazy’.

They walked into the parking lot and he unlocked his car. Her eyes widened when she saw his car. She doesn’t know much about cars and their models but it looked hella expensive.

She came out of her shock when she heard him say, “Get in”. He was holding the door of passenger seat open for her.

He has never done something like this before but he was doing everything that he has never done in his life since he has met her.

She quickly walked towards the car and got into the car, making herself comfortable on the seat. He closed the door and rounded the car and got inside taking the driver’s seat.

“Seat belt” he muttered when he saw her seating stiff on her seat.

She fasten the seat belt around her and he started driving. There was an uncomfortable thick silence in the car. Chase’s eyes were glued to the road but he looked like he wanted to ask so many questions to her.

Cara kept glancing in his direction as if she had so many things to say. But both of them didn’t know how.

After few minutes Chase broke the silence asking, “You want to say something?”

She again looked in his direction and taking a deep breath she spoke, “Regarding… what you asked in the classroom?...” she paused.

Chase’s heartbeat increased but he kept looking straight ahead waiting for her to continue.

“You really mean those words right? That you want to date me” she asked.

He glanced in her direction and said, “That’s right. So… what do you say? Have you made your decision?” he asked.

She released a breath and continued, “I think we should get to know each other first. We don’t know anything about one another. Just as you said earlier, we have just met few days ago”

“So this short amount of time is very less for both of us to know what we actually feel for each other. As you said in the morning that you don’t know what you are feeling in your heart” She paused to find him deep in his thoughts.

“So you mean you don’t want to date me?” he asked after few seconds. And she can swear she noticed the hint of sadness in his tone.

“What I mean is, I think we need time. First we should get to know each other and then we will gradually find out if we can really be together”

“I hope you are understanding what I am trying to say?” she asked.

Again silence fell over them for a while before Chase spoke, “Okay, I don’t mind the waiting. And about getting to know each other we can do it while dating as well because you have to be my girlfriend for some time, whether it be fake or real”.

She nodded her head, “Yeah, so during that time we can find out more about each other and our own feelings. And see if we can really be together or not. But…” she trailed off.

He looked in her direction with narrowed eyes not liking the way she said but, as if she is going to say something which will set him off.

“But?” he pressed her to continue.

“But somehow in the end if I…we feel that it isn’t going to work… I hope that… you will let me go” she said in low unsure tone.

She needed to make sure that he is going to let her go if they can’t work out their relationship in the end.

Even after knowing why she said those words he still felt pang of hurt in his heart.

Chase actually understood from where she was coming. He even had a doubt that she is agreeing to try and date him because of fear she has in her heart for him.

It’s not like he hasn’t noticed the effect he has on her or her body. He knows somewhere deep in her heart she also feels something for him.

But he is not sure if those feelings have convinced her to be his girlfriend or her fear. He hopes it’s the former one.

He tried masking his emotions and said in cold tone, “Let’s not talk about that now. We haven’t even started yet”.

But Cara noticed the emotions swirling in those gray eyes of his. She didn’t press him and let the matter go.

Again silence fell over them. He was about to reach the café when he asked, “You didn’t come to cafeteria during lunch. Were you trying to avoid me?”

She looked at him with wide eyes but he was looking everywhere but her.

Yes he went to the cafeteria during lunch break to make sure that no one was troubling her. At least that’s what he said to himself.

But later he found out that she didn’t come to cafeteria.

“No it’s not like that. I didn’t have any appetite and I was busy talking with Sapphire so that is why” she replied.

He stopped the car in front of the café where she works and got out of the car. She also undid her seat belt and was about to open the door when he helped her in doing that.

‘How did he move so fast?’ she thought as she got down from car.

“Thanks for the ride” she said and was about to turn around when his voice stopped her, “Cara..”

She looked up to find him staring at her face and her heartbeat increased at the softness in those orbs.

He kept staring at her face for a moment, had so many things he wanted to say to her. But lastly he didn’t say any of those and said, “I will pick you up in the evening when you are done with your shift”.

“Actually, you don’t…” she couldn’t completely her sentence when he cut her off, “Tomorrow is Saturday. You don’t have any classes on weekends right?” he asked pushing his hands into his pocket.

She nodded her head. Her heart thumped against her ribcage when he said

“Let’s go on a date with me”.
