Chapter 18: Chapter 18

Eva fell to the ground after she saw the demon die and turn to dust at Iris' feet. She was panting with relief that they were both still alive after fighting James.

"Iris… You did it." She said to Iris who was still standing staring at the dust. But her eyes widened in horror when suddenly she collapsed to the floor and passed out.

"Oh shit… Iris! Are you alright? Iris!" She quickly took out her cell phone and called someone at headquarters. "Shane! I need help now!"

Near the alley, Jonathan watched Eva as well as Iris from a distance until he waited for reinforcements to arrive to take them.

When Martin and Tommy arrive, they are very surprised to find Eva who has a broken leg while Iris is still unconscious and hasn't woken up since she managed to beat James.

Eva had confirmed that Iris was fine and was in a state of shock. And they were immediately taken to headquarters.

-Devil Hunter Headquarters-

Shane immediately checked the condition of her two friends who were messed up. Eva is still able to walk even though her leg is broken and is helped by Tommy. Meanwhile, Martin ran frantically while carrying Iris towards the lab.

"Shane! Iris and Eva are injured!" She screamed in panic. Shane, who had suspected that Eva contacted her because something had happened, had already prepared all her medical equipment.

"Lay her here." She said directly. Martin also laid her down carefully. "What happened to her?" She asked Eva.

She immediately checked her condition while Tommy helped Eva to sit on the bed. The laboratory was suddenly very busy because Allan and Jack were also swarming around the laboratory.

"That demon had strangled her neck. After she killed him, she passed out." Eva explained while enduring the pain that Tommy had helped deal with her broken leg. Shane nodded in understanding.

"Martin! Bring her for a direct CT scan of the neck."

Iris was immediately taken to a special CT Scan room after Shane stripped Iris' body and Martin went out after he escorted her earlier. But after she checked it, she was grateful that nothing was broken or damaged by the strangulation.

Everyone inside the base was almost in chaos after hearing that Eva was injured and the new member who had returned was unconscious. But Shane announced the news of the two who were fine, and the headquarters calmed down again.

"I'm so glad they're both alive," Tommy spoke up after nearly half an hour of silence in the living room.

They had gathered but didn't talk about anything. Immersed in each other's thoughts. Martin sighed as he recalled the incident earlier.

"I thought I lost Iris when I saw her unconscious at the scene. The place fell apart and it was just the two of them there."

Jack turned his head away when he heard Martin speak. Honestly, he couldn't imagine losing his friend again after Miles' death.

"Is the demon dead?" Allan asked. He was standing beside the sofa looking at Martin with such empty eyes. Martin just nodded.

Iris still hadn't woken up from her stupor as Jonathan waited and accompanied her in the treatment room. He sat on the edge of the bed while touching the back of Iris' hand.

His expression was not friendly at all after what had just happened. His eyes were so cold when he looked at the face of Iris who still hadn't woken up from her stupor.

"Ana, I'm sorry." He whispers so deep.

He saw a white neck collar to support her head. Scars and bruises are also clearly visible on the left arm that he touched.

He slowly rubbed his face and brushed his hair back with a completely worried expression. But seeing Iris's eyelids slowly moving made Jonathan wait for her patiently.

"… Nathan?" Iris could barely see Jonathan's face in front of her because her eyes felt too dazzled. But when her eyes already adjusted, the first figure she saw when she opened her eyes was Jonathan.

She was still trying to adjust the light that entered her eyes when she opened them again.

"How are you?" Jonathan asked while shifting his body a little to get closer. He trapped Iris's body between his hands while her body rested on both of his arms. Iris smiled a little.

"My neck hurts so bad." She said in a hoarse voice. Jonathan got up from his position and got a glass of water complete with a straw for her drinking.

"Of course. You just got strangled by the devil.  Good thing he didn't break your neck."

Iris wanted to throw the medicine tray on the nightstand at Jonathan. How could he say so casually after what happened was the result of his actions as well.

"Where have you been? I almost died because you broke your promise.” She said without holding back her emotions. If in the past she still kept her attitude with Jonathan, now she will vent all her emotions.

A creature that has an annoying nature like Jonathan makes her sick. She doesn't have to hold back anymore, because he's a demon who can read minds.

But her tasteless mouth grew even blander when she was stared at by Jonathan with an expression that made her misunderstand.

"Why are you silent?" She asked awkwardly. It couldn't be that Jonathan was worried about her, right? But instead, she held her breath when his cold hand moved to touch her cheek. She endured the pain in her neck from moving so suddenly.

"I'm sorry."

And? Those two words managed to make her lick her lips awkwardly half to death. God, Jonathan was really worried about her. What's happening? What is this feeling?

She felt her chest warm and her stomach seemed to be tickled by something.

"Thank you for saving me." She said surprised himself. Her mouth seemed to be talking to itself.

Jonathan shook his head in disbelief as Iris thanked him instead. But he can see the sincerity of her words. The sincerity he got from a human.

"I don't deserve your sincerity, Ana." Iris chuckled a little at that.

"Don't ask me to be an ungrateful person, Nathan. I'm grateful that I'm still alive today. Do you know? I wanted to run away, but my legs couldn't move." Iris slightly recalled the incident earlier. Jonathan snorted in amusement.

"It's a good thing I took over your mind before you ran away."

"Damn it. I panicked, okay? Eva was thrown and broke her leg. How can I calm down." Iris grumbled slightly in annoyance.

Seeing Jonathan smiling like this calmed her down. In her heart, she wondered. Why is Jonathan's figure so quiet? Even the ants walking on the wall were curious about Jonathan's figure.

She suddenly remembered James' words calling him 'Lord Hairesh'. Is Hairesh his real name? She doesn't know why Jonathan keeps his expression down. He was so handsome when he smiled like that.

"As a thank you, I would like to invite you to dinner. Will you accept it?" Iris asked, looking into those shining eyes. The handsome demonic figure fell silent and stopped smiling.

For some reason, the room suddenly fell silent until she pulled the corners of her lips and smiled strangely. She forgot that Jonathan was difficult to mingle with humans.

"Errm if you refuse it's fine. Ahaha I forgot that you don't need to eat human food to survive hi-"

"I want to. But after you recover." Jonathan said, cutting her words. She immediately smiled widely until her eyes narrowed like a cat.

"Thank you."
