Chapter 14: Chapter 14
The next day, Iris came to see Eva who seemed very busy that morning. And after so long she finally met Jack and Martin again. Seems like yesterday's mission was so tough that the two of them just returned today.
"My honey, Iris? Oh my God! You look like an angel this morning." Jack immediately messed up when he saw Iris coming. Martin chuckled and almost choked on his coffee at the sight of Jack's reaction.
"Hey, kid. I suggest you don't make trouble. You've had a month off right? I'm waiting for you in the training room." Allan said, which immediately wiped the smile off Jack's face.
And Tommy smiled disdainfully because he would be training with Jack during his recovery time.
"What happened to you, Jack? You usually don't take that long when you're on duty." He said a little curious. Martin pointed at Tommy while raising his eyebrows slightly high.
"Good question."
"Shut up, Martin! That's a disgrace." And Jack shrieked in a panic because Martin had started to talk about his problems during the job. Martin just laughed while avoiding Jack who was starting to go crazy.
"Why? Tell us. All information is received in this room." Tommy spread his arms and Allan nodded in agreement and was clearly on Tommy's side this time.
"But not with my disgrace, okay? That's embarrassing! And Iris in here." Jack felt objected and was embarrassed as he looked at Iris.
Eva and Shane smiled slightly at the behavior of their men. Iris rolled her eyes lazily and chose to talk to Eva. She doesn't care about Jack's disgrace because it doesn't affect her future.
"What are you doing?" he asked Eva who seemed to be arranging the paper and some photos on the table. Shane there watched Iris from top to bottom and made Iris herself pay attention to her appearance today.
"You change your appearance and still stand out," Shane said and made Iris sigh.
"I've been trying to cover up my identity. Three times, okay? If this still stands out, then forgive me. I was born this way." Said Iris who sounded arrogant. Tommy even snorted while looking away with a cynical expression.
"No problem. I want to go to the salon but unfortunately, I can't stay out of my lab for long." Shane propped her chin with her left hand.
"Iris, come here," Eva called Iris come closer to the table. She obeyed and saw some photos there.
"I received information that there is a demon in the center of the city. And this is suitable to be your first mission." Eva said while handing her a photo of the demon she was targeting this time.
Iris furrowed her brows when she saw the photo and the information was exactly what Jonathan had said back then. A house with a chimney and also a weak demon. She put down the photo and looked at Eva in disbelief.
Was it possible that Eva had been cooperating with Jonathan in hunting down demons? But she was also a little disbelieving because Eva was so vengeful with the devil. And also... Jonathan doesn't seem to like mixing with the team.
Eva and Shane looked at each other as Iris just stood still and stared at the few photos on the table with a serious expression.
"Are you still traumatized?" Eva asked a little worried if she was still afraid to fight demons. Iris shook her head and smiled, slightly touched that Eva was still worried about her mental health.
"No. I just don't believe in myself." She said a little wearily.
"You won't disappoint, Iris. I trained you with great pride." Allan suddenly answered and joined while folding his arms in front of his chest.
"Calm yourself, Iris. You've been training hard all this time. Your efforts will pay off. Also, we won't let you hunt this demon alone. We'll let you go when you're fully prepared and skilled." Shane said while chewing her gum.
Shane's words naturally provoked the other members to join in giving encouragement and confidence to her. Jack and Martin came closer to the table to see what kind of demon Iris was targeting.
"You're safe with Eva, honey. She's very reliable. I can come with you if you're afraid of this demon." Jack had indeed become a man fit for the title of 'mood destroyer'.
"You can make Jack for bait while you're running away. Just leave him and let him be eaten by the devil. Then you'll be safe." Tommy replied. He had the heart to tell Iris to sacrifice Jack as bait. Martin was already laughing out loud while holding on to Allan's left shoulder.
Eva smiled to herself. Today the team members seem to be in a good mood. Also, the cynical Tommy always has a rough joke and sometimes makes her laugh too.
"I'll guide you, Iris." She said a word to convince Iris.
Iris smiled as she put her hands in her pants pockets. All her friends care so much for each other.
"Thank you." She said sincerely.
Eva then explained about the demons they were going to exterminate. And from all Eva's words, Iris already knew ahead from Jonathan. And because this was her first mission, she didn't want any mistakes because it would be fatal to her teammates later.
"Choose the weapon you need, Iris," Eva said as she walked into the weapons room followed by Iris from behind.
She took several pistols complete with bullets, knives, and so on. She turned around and saw her, who was almost like a human killer. Just imagine it! Ten grenades on her waist, a rocket launcher on her back, AK47 on her right and left. Five pistols tucked in her pants.
"I'm ready," Iris said so excitedly. Eva sighed as she massaged her forehead for a while.
"No. You wouldn't carry that many weapons."
Eva understood that Iris was afraid of demons. But the problem doesn't need to be that much. Iris stood up with a very nervous expression and Eva tried to understand that.
"Sorry, I was so nervous," Iris muttered while holding her sweaty forehead.
"Calm down. Or do you want Jack-"
"NO! Definitely no. We can go now."
