Chapter 90: Chapter 90

“What?”

Valerie struggled up from where she was seated. She felt like she didn't hear what the servant said.

“Yes… yes… it's her.”

Snorting in disbelief, Valerie continued. “That's not possible. Clara can never do that to me. Why would you be lying against her?”

“Valerie, I think you should let her speak. We have to find out who poisoned you and why.” Ethan said as she sat down reluctantly.

Valerie gulped. “I just don't believe this. I can't believe this. Clara and I are best of friends, there's no way she would have poisoned me, right?”

Just then, the guards dragged Clara to where President Ethan and Valerie were. Pushing her to her feet, she panted heavily.

“Tell them, Clara. Tell them that she's lying against you. I mean, you can't possibly be the one who wants me dead, right?” Valerie rushed to her and helped her up.

Suddenly, Clara slapped her hand away and snorted. “Stop acting like you're my friend, you are nothing but a wolf in sheep's clothing. How dare you pretend like you're my friend?”

“What… What are you talking about, Clara? You are the closest person to me in the mansion, why would you say something like this?” Valerie raised her brows in shock.

Clara remorselessly began. “Oh, to hell with your closeness. You think I consider you my friend, huh? Why would I do that to the person who is snatching everything that I've ever wanted?”

“Hey! Get straight to the point. Why did you poison Valerie?” Ethan yelled at her and she flinched.

Clara burst into tears. “President, I've always loved you. That was one of the reasons why I started working here. I thought that by getting close to you, you'll begin to notice me.”

“What has that got to do with me, Clara? I've always considered you my friend, yet you stabbed me in the back. Do you know that I almost lost my life because of you?” Valerie cried.

Upon hearing that, she smirked. “Almost? I wanted you to lose your life, and get out of my way. You are so gullible, Valerie. You took the president from me. Just when I was trying hard to get close to him, you ended up snatching him for me, and making him notice you.”

“Snatching him from you? When did I ever do that? He's just my boss, we have nothing up our sleeves…” Valerie tried to explain.

“Arrant nonsense! You must think I'm a fool, don't you? Or do you think I don't know that President Ethan has developed feelings for you? I heard him say that by himself.” She continued.

Confused, Valerie turned to Ethan, who turned his face away. “Feelings for me? You must have heard wrong. I doubt that'll ever happen.”

“I don't care whether you believe me or not, all I'm saying is that I wish that you died. I hate to see you alive.” Clara shouted.

A resounding slap landed on her cheek from Ethan. Glaring at her with so much hatred, he spat on her. “You shameless murderer, you don't deserve to go unpunished. Security! Take this trash out of my sight. I'll make sure she rots in jail.”

The remorseless young lady rushed to the glass cup on the table and hit it on the ground. “There's no way I'll go to jail. I'd rather die than go to that filthy place.”

With that, she pierced the broken glass into her neck. Everyone gasped in shock as she fell to the ground in a pool of her blood. Valerie broke into tears, her heart was shattered to even stare at her. To think that Clara was the one who had her poisoned made her heart bleed.

Audrey held her close and hugged her tight. “You don't have to feel bad, Miss old-fashioned. It's her fault for being so greedy. You haven't done anything wrong to her, yet she wants to have you killed.”

“She… She was my friend. I never saw her like an enemy, who would have thought she would want to poison me? I can't believe this.” Valerie continued wailing.

“You're not serious, are you? She was the one who tried to kill you, huh? I thought you said she was a good friend?” Susan's voice came from the other end.

Valerie shook her head. “That was what I thought, until she confessed it herself. You won't believe that she even had to kill yourself just because she didn't want to go to jail? I can't believe it.”

“What the… Are you sure you still want to be there? Your life is more important than that job. You can quit if you don't feel safe.” Susan started.

On hearing that, Valerie smiled softly. “There's no need to worry. I'm fine.”

“Please take good care of yourself, Val. I have to go now. I'm at work.”

“Oh, okay! We'll talk later.” Valerie said before hanging up.

Exhaling deeply, she dropped her cell phone on the bed as she arranged the clothes properly.

“Miss old-fashioned!” Audrey's voice frightened her.

She shook her head. “You startled me, Audrey. What do you want, baby girl?”

“I think you're not being honest with me, Miss old-fashioned. I thought you said you were my best friend, huh?” Audrey feigned sadness.

Disturbed, Valerie bent to her height. “What's the matter, baby?”

“Do you promise to speak honestly? You can't lie to me, okay?”

“Oh, okay! What do you want to know?”

Audrey smiled mischievously, and asked. “Do you want to be my mother? I mean, my daddy's wife?”

Valerie choked. “What?”
