Chapter 71: Chapter 71
“Curse you!”
President Ethan smiled mischievously. “You're hungry, I heard that from your stomach.”
Valerie bit her lower lip and bowed her head in shame. “I'm… I'm sorry, sir.”
“You don't always have to apologize when you did nothing wrong. Don't worry, I'll get you something from the cafeteria. Meanwhile, I'll get a nurse to treat your twisted ankle.” President Ethan replied before walking out of the door.
Embarrassed, Valerie hit her stomach softly. “You won't cease to disgrace me, will you?”
A few minutes later, a nurse walked in. The nurse sat right beside Valerie as she applied some ointment on her twisted ankle.
“You're very lucky to have such a caring husband, ma'am.” The nurse broke the silence after a few minutes.
Valerie's eyes squinted, and she gulped rather harder. “Husband?”
“Yes, ma'am.” She responded.
With a snort, Valerie turned to her. “He's… he's not my husband.”
Confused, the nurse shook her head without saying a word. She was probably trying to wrap her head around what Valerie had just told her. “Okay, if is not your husband, then he must be your baby's Daddy, right?”
“Baby's Daddy?” Valerie choked on her words.
The nurse smiled dryly. “I understand that you don't want to talk about it. It's obvious that the little girl lying in the world is your daughter. She has a striking resemblance to you.”
“Nurse, she's not my daughter.” Valerie snapped.
With that, the nurse smiled and kept mute. Her words brought Valerie's thoughts back to the child she had a few years back. Tears circulated in her eyes, but she blinked it back. Who knows where her child would be by now? Is she still alive? Is the child doing well? How does she look now?
Valerie blinked rapidly, and sniffed hard before speaking. “I once had a child.”
The nurse paused, and turned her gaze away from the kit of first aid to Valerie. “Is that so? Where is the child?”
“I'd… I'd rather not discuss the child, but the child in the ward isn't mine. Even though she's more like a daughter to me.” Valerie forced a smile at her to conceal the sadness she felt.
The nurse looked around before whispering. “Honestly, I think you and the man you came with, really look good together. You'll make beautiful kids.”
Valerie burst into laughter. “Really?”
“If he's not your husband or baby's daddy, then you have to trust me when I say he likes you.” The nurse winked at her.
With a scoff, Valerie shook her head. The nurse must be mistaken to say President Ethan likes her.
“Is that even possible? We are here today because of his fiancée, and she's saying he likes me. Impossible!”
Valerie exhaled deeply. “You think so?”
“I can't be mistaken. I'm good at reading people's minds, and I can tell that he likes you.” She continued.
Valerie shook her head. “I think you got it wrong, he has a fiancée. I'm only his daughter's nanny.”
“I see. You just need a rest, and then you'll be fine.” The nurse nodded her head as she carried the first aid kit and walked away.
Left alone by the nurse, Valerie continued pondering on what the nurse had told her earlier.
“Valerie, you don't have to believe what the nurse had said. What makes you think President Ethan would even have the slightest feeling for you? You're just a nanny to his beloved daughter, that's the reason he keeps standing up for you.” Valerie said those words to herself, and shrugged the thoughts off.

“Aunt, why are you so worried about this? I'm certain that Audrey is going to get better. She's a strong girl.” Rebecca, who got tired of Lady Davison's lamentations, blurted out. She was obviously tired of hearing Lady Davison talk about Audrey.
The old lady exhaled deeply, and grabbed her hand. “Are you certain, Rebecca? I can't bring myself to live well, knowing fully well that I'm partly the reason she's lying lifeless in that room.”
Upon hearing that, Rebecca snorted. “Hell no! It's not your fault, aunt. Have you forgotten the reason we went there in the first place? It was because of that manipulative nanny of hers. She's the cause of all these.”
“I don't think so. That lady even offered to donate blood for Audrey. That's not an easy decision to make, knowing fully well how rare it is to find an AB negative blood type donor.” Lady Davison replied.
“That cursed girl! Is she trying to get Mrs. Davison to support her too? She's such a manipulative bi·ch!” Rebecca thought within herself.
On the other hand, Valerie was already half asleep when she heard footsteps and quickly opened her eyes.
Smiles escaped her lips the moment she saw Nicole standing in front of her with a flower bouquet. “Hey, Val.”
“Nick? Have you been standing there long?” She smiled at her warmly.
He rolled his eyes. “Not so long! I was actually looking at you while you were sleeping. You won't believe that you were actually drooling.” Nicole teased and she gasped.
“What? I didn't!” Valerie hit him playfully on the chest.
He laughed heartily and handed the flowers to her, and then a box of chocolates. “I figured out you'll be hungry. I also bought you some food. It's in the car. How's Audrey?”
“The doctor is yet to update us on how she's doing. You're a darling, Nicole. I'm so famished.” Valerie opened the chocolates and started eating hungrily.
Nicole sat beside her, and watched her eat the chocolate hungrily. “Easy, Valerie. You're going to choke.”
“What do you know? I'm so hungry.” Valerie couldn't speak properly due to the mouthful.
“Oh no! Your mouth is full, and you have some stains of chocolate on your lip. I'll clean it off.” Nicole brought out his handkerchief.
Without hesitation, he cleaned her lips with the towel. Just then, President Ethan walked in cheerfully, but his countenance changed on seeing Nicole cleaning Valerie's mouth.
“Oh, what's up, Ethan?” Nicole smiled at him.
President Ethan forced a smile at him, and gulped hard. “You're here?”
“Yeah. I just needed to get food for Valerie. I'm sure she's starving.” Nicole replied.
Upon hearing that, Ethan quickly hid the food he bought for Valerie on his back. “Oh, I see.”
“Sir, I thought you went to buy some food for me too? Where is it?” Valerie asked as she ate the chocolate.
Ethan coldly replied. “Why should I? There's no way I'll do that. Nicole got food for you. Enjoy.”
With that, Ethan stormed out of the room. He walked to the waste bin, and threw the food into the trash can.
