Chapter 72: Chapter 72

Boiling with rage, Ethan sat outside with his pack of food. He wasn't even hungry anymore after seeing the lovey-dovey Valerie and Nicole were playing earlier.

“I shouldn't have bothered getting her food when Ethan already did.” He scoffed.

From outside, where Ethan was, he could hear Valerie and Nicole chattering and laughing loudly. He felt like rushing into the room, and dragging Nicole out of the hospital.

“Should I even be thinking about Valerie? Shouldn't I be concerned about my daughter, who's lying unconscious in the ward?”

With that, he decided to pay a deaf ear to the chattering Valerie and Nicole were doing happily inside the room, but unfortunately, he still couldn't bring himself to forget it.

He was still boiling with rage when he felt a tap on his shoulder, and he turned swiftly. “Ethan, why are you eating outside here?”

“Rebecca?” He called out, and gulped hard.

Immediately, Rebecca noticed how unsettled and furious he looked. The pack of food was still uneaten because he lost his appetite. “Ethan, are you okay?”

He forced a smile at her. “Do I look like someone who is not okay? By the way, what are you doing here? You've got some nerve to show up in the hospital after the charade you put up back at the mansion earlier today?”

“What charade? You freaking slapped me because of a mere nanny, Ethan. Gosh! You slapped me hard across the face because of a worker.” Rebecca tried her best not to scream because people were already watching.

Ethan snorted. “What is wrong with you, Rebecca? That nanny has done absolutely nothing wrong to you, yet you choose to treat her like a piece of trash. What would you have me do? Join you in harassing someone who is innocent of the accusations you placed on her?”

“I am your girlfriend, Ethan. I don't get it! No matter what it is that I accused her of, should you slap your girlfriend in the presence of a servant?” Rebecca spoke in between gritted teeth.

With that, Ethan gulped hard. “Fine. I accept that I was wrong, but I didn't mean to slap you. I just couldn't stop you. Why do you have to involve my mother in all this?”

“Because she's the only one who can talk some sense into you, and that god-damned girl, Valerie. We are getting married soon, Ethan. You don't expect me to accommodate that thwart, do you?”

Ethan turned his gaze away, he was already having enough from what was happening. His precious daughter was still lying unconscious in the hospital ward, and he's yet to get the doctor's consent to be able to see her. The least he wanted was to have any issues adding to the one he already had.

Fuming, Rebecca walked to the seat and sat beside him. Her eyes caught with the waste bin, and she saw the pack of food in it. Her eyes narrowed, and she turned to Ethan. “Did you throw that food out?”

Reluctantly, he replied. “I just bought too much.”

“I see.”

There was silence between them, and the laughter coming from the room continued.

“Is she always this happy whenever she's with him? She can't even control herself from laughing so loud!” Ethan thought out loud when he just couldn't take it.

Rebecca glared at him, and then looked into the window. She sighted Valerie seated on the bed while Nicole sat at the edge of the bed as they discussed happily.

“She's also trying to seduce Nicole too, huh?” Rebecca couldn't help but scoff.

Ethan gulped. “What are you talking about?”

“Nothing. I just need to use the restroom.” She sighed as she got up and walked towards the restroom.

Meanwhile, Valerie ate hungrily from the food Nicole bought for her. “Easy, Val. You would rather not choke, do you?”

“You don't know how hungry I've been. Actually, I donated blood to Audrey, that's probably the reason I'm this hungry.” Valerie replied.

Nicole nodded his head. “You love her that much, huh?”

“I can't really tell, but each time I look at that girl, I feel like I'm attached to her. It is unclear to me why or how, but something in me keeps making me believe she's so close to me.” Valerie bit her lips.

Nicole scoffed. “Is that even possible? You know, if I didn't know you well, I would have said she's your daughter. I mean, you both have many similarities.”

“Come to think of it, Nicole. If my child was still with me, do you think she'll be just like Audrey? Smart, beautiful and kind?” She said those words with tears in her eyes.

Truly, she was simply a teenager when she had the child, and she never wanted a child then, but that doesn't mean she wouldn't want to keep the child to herself.

“Not again, are you going to cry once more? What a crybaby!” Nicole drew closer to her, and wiped her tears off.

Valerie sniffed. “Nick, I just wished that I saw my child's face. Just the face, at least. It's painful, Nicole. It's very painful. I wasn't allowed to see the face of the child I gave birth to.”

“Oh, Valerie! Come on, you shouldn't let yourself think of the bad memories. You shouldn't think of the child again. You might be the birth mother of the child, but trust me, the child is in good hands.” Nicole patted her back.

Valerie nodded her head. “That's why I want Audrey to be fine. She reminds me so much of my child, whose face I wasn't allowed to see.”

“What child? You both had a child?”
