Chapter 59: Chapter 59
“I was so sad when I heard about your mom’s condition. Thank God, her surgery went smoothly.” Sana said hugging Olivia. Olivia had stopped crying now. She was so scared when her mom was in the operating theatre. She was praying the whole time. Thankfully, the surgery was done with no complications. The doctors were of different states which Thomas had consulted. They took her to the biggest hospital in town where they operated on her. The doctors had given them hope as the surgery was successful as they removed her ovary with so much risk and difficulty, but still, there was no guarantee that she would be alright. It was the fourth stage after all. She just wanted to try every way possible to make her live for some time. And she wanted her to live a less painful life.
Sana was on her trip when she came to know that Amelia was having her surgery. She left for LA to come and see her. She felt so bad that her friend was alone on her own. But she did not expect Thomas to be there and take care of her though. She was so happy to find him with her. He had left to bring them lunch.
They were sitting in the cafeteria since no one was allowed to meet her yet. Olivia had been waiting to see her mom since the operation lasted for ten hours. And then the doctors had prohibited them to meet her yet.
“Thanks for coming Sana. I missed you.” She said putting her head on Sana’s shoulder. They were sitting side by side on the chair. She was so drained after worrying, being scared of the consequences, and crying all night. Thomas was there to comfort her once again. She could not thank him enough in her heart. The way he had been her support for the past few days was unbelievable. If someone had told her that he would turn out to be such a great person and that she would rely on him. She had never done that. She was always the one being the moral support to others. She could not deny how good it felt to have someone else to rely on. She never thought she would have a person like that in her life.
Thomas came to them bringing them some Chinese food. She raised her head from Sana’s shoulder. They had their lunch in a pleasant environment. She felt like a heavy burden was lifted from her head. She was content to know that the horrifying surgery passed.
“I love to see you both together,” Sana commented cheerfully. She was about to choke on the spoonful of rice she had just had. Thomas had a smirk on his face after seeing her reaction to the comment.
“Really?” He asked with a chuckle giving her a mischievous look. She narrowed her eyes.
“Yeah. You look perfect with each other.” She said oblivious to the glare Olivia was throwing her. It was true that she found them perfect for each other. Thomas was strong, handsome, successful, mature, and caring while she was such a softie, independent, beautiful, sweet, and kindhearted. They matched each other a lot. Olivia needed someone she could rely on while dealing with all the problems she had in her life. Though she did not want it, she needed it. She was there for her, but a partner who understood was what was lacking in her life.
She never would have been ready to be in a relationship as long as she had to take care of her mom. Now that fate had made her meet Thomas, she had hope for her best friend.
Thomas was having the same smirk on his face while glancing at Olivia whose face had gotten red with embarrassment. She never expected Sana out of all the other people to say something like that in front of him. And the surprising thing was that Thomas was enjoying it for some reason.
She just quickly had her lunch and left the café excusing herself. It gave Sana time to talk to Thomas.
“I know your relationship like her is not the ordinary one, but I am truly concerned about her. She had always been away from relationships because I know she is scared of it.” She said looking at him seriously. He nodded after a moment but he had a surprised expression on his face.
“Had she never been in a relationship before?” He asked with a frown. He knew she was not that experienced in that area, but it was hard to think that a beautiful and sweet girl like her had never been in a relationship before.
“Nope. She did have a special bond with a guy when we were in school. But that was not even a relationship. They did not even hold hands. It was so long ago.” She chuckled remembering the time when she freaked out because the guy had touched her face telling her how smooth her skin was. Her reaction was so unusual because she genuinely seemed scared. Sana did not know why she always reacted that way, but she had always been afraid of intimacy.
“I see.” He said thoughtfully.
They left the café to look for Olivia because she had not returned. Just as how he had guessed, she was looking over her mom through the round window of her room. She still had not gained consciousness.
“Olivia, I am going now to take some rest as I am jet-legged. I will come till night.” Sana said hugging her friend.
“No Sana, go and take a rest. Aunt Mary will be here in a while. Don’t worry.” She hugged her back. There were only a few people in her life whom she shared her happiness and sadness with. Sana had been there for her for as long as she remembered. She even left her trip midway and came back for her. She did not know what she did to deserve her and Aunt Mary.
“Okay love, take care. Call me when she is awake. Don’t worry. She will be healthy again and we will have our movie night together like the good old days.” She said with a smile. They always had movie nights together at Olivia’s place on the weekends. Her mom and Aunt Mary were also there to watch. They had so much fun.
“Sure. Thank you.” She kissed her hand with affection making Sana give a ‘disgusting’ reaction jokingly. Olivia laughed at her. Thomas also laughed at their goofiness.
Sana left and she was alone with Thomas.
“Let’s sit.” He pointed at the bench. She nodded and went to sit on it. He also took a seat beside her. He had been thinking about what Sana had said. The fact that she was scared of relationships and commitments and still went with the marriage was making his heart warm as well as hurt. He had inflicted her with so much pain while he was forcing her into the marriage and being selfish. She had been through hell, and he had been one of the reasons.
Moreover, it was still hard to think that boys left a girl like her alone. She was everything a girl should be in his eyes. She was not easy to pursue. She was not a gold digger. She had a lot of self-respect. She was sincere, loyal, strong, and honest. On top of everything, she was beautiful as hell. Her eyes were alone to mesmerize his whole being. Her lips, her nose, her cheeks, her skin, her figure…everything was as perfect as it could get. He was enchanted by her at first glance.
“I am so happy that she got her surgery. If it was not for you, I would not have been able to do any of it. Thank you so much, Thomas.” She said with so much emotion that Thomas thought she was crying.
A look into her eyes told her that she was trying not to cry. She was not looking at him so he placed his hand on his chin and turned her head toward himself. He held her face in both of his hands. Her small face caged between his big palms seemed so cute.
“You don’t have to thank me. I did what I should have done. It is nothing in front of the favor you have done to me.” He said with a smile. She raised her eyes to look into his eyes making his heart skip a beat.
Her eyes were so intense—not with anger or anything. They looked so pure looking up at him as if she could not believe there was someone with her now. He had done nothing out of the box. It was the promise he had made to her. It was what their marriage was based on.
But aside from the contract, he wanted to do that. He did not want to see her any more worried than she already was. He wanted to lessen her problems as much as he could.
“Don’t look at me like that.” He said in a husky voice. He could visibly see her swallowing.
“Like what?” She asked as if she wanted to confirm her gut feelings. She seemed to know what he was implying, but she was not sure.
“Like you want me to do something you would not appreciate.” He said with a smirk. He could not believe he was saying all that while her face was so close to his. And they were in the hospital where people were passing by them.
Her eyes widened. She looked around. Nobody was paying them any attention. Her heart was beating. She was having an internal debate with herself about whether to encourage him or push his hands away.
He saw her struggle. It did not feel like she wanted to stop him so he brought his lips closer.
“Do you know how irresistible you are? You will be the death of me one day.” He whispered before touching her lips with his. Her breath felt like being knocked out of her lungs.
