Chapter 58: Chapter 58

“How is she?” Thomas asked her as she came out of the OPD. Her eyes were red from crying. Ever since she got back from Canada, all she had been doing was crying. She did not cry in front of others, but her swollen and red eyes told enough about her condition.

“She is okay.” She nodded in assurance. She was sleeping, so she came out to sit beside him. She was concerned about him. He had not slept for a second since the previous night.

They got to the hospital as soon as they landed in LA. They came around night time and it was already morning. He had not left her side the whole time and consoled her all the while. Olivia sent Aunt Mary home because she was the one who had been taking care of her mom for two days.

They had informed her late. They thought her mom was having the usual reaction after the chemo, but all she had been doing was throwing up. Aunt Mary had to take her to the emergency room. She did not want to spoil Olivia’s time with her husband, but her condition was not getting better, so she had to inform her.

Now, she was with Thomas who had been beside her every minute. She told him to go home, but he did not listen. The doctors had suggested resection surgery. For now, her mom had recovered a little. However, she did not want to delay the surgery anymore. She wanted to see her mom healthy and happy.

There was no surety that she would be healthy after the surgery, but she wanted to do that as soon as possible. The chemo sessions were not proven fruitful. Besides, she had internal bleeding this time as well. The last time she had that was more than two months ago.

Thomas had consulted some top doctors from around the state. He wanted to arrange the best doctors so her chances of survival would be there. He took his promise to Olivia seriously. That was the main reason why she married him.

“Thomas, please go and get some rest.” She said again. She felt like a broken record repeating the same thing over and over. But he was not listening.

“We will leave together.” She sighed. She was not the only broken record. He was also repeating the same thing.

Neither did she change her narrative nor did he. She let her head rest on the back of the bench on which they were sitting. Her head felt like exploding. She was sleep-deprived, jet-lagged, and miserable. She could not stop crying the moment her eyes laid on her mom. She looked so fragile and sick.

The doctors had shifted her to OPD as her condition was okay for now. But she could not see her like that. When Thomas said he would arrange her surgery, she could not help but feel a ray of hope.

Her eyes were closing on their own accord. She tried to stay awake and still, but everything was taking a toll on her. She did not know how, but somehow she fell asleep.

Thomas saw her leaning against the bench. Seeing how tired she was, he stopped talking. He could tell how much she was struggling. He saw her staring at her mom while shedding silent tears. He saw her awake taking care of her mom. Even if he wanted to go and rest, he could not leave her alone.

Her head moved as her eyes closed. She probably had fallen asleep. He was looking at her features when he saw her head drop to the side after a moment. He moved closer to put her head on his shoulder. He looked at her face again as she started snoring softly. He smiled.

Just then he saw Aunt Mary coming to their side. She was such a sincere friend. She did not want to leave her side, but Thomas and Olivia convinced her to go. She said she would return in the morning, and sure enough, she was there already.

“Thomas, you both should go. She looks tired. You should also take some rest.” She told Thomas after he greeted her. Thomas nodded because he knew he had to get some sleep into his system after taking a shower. They were still in the previous day’s clothing.

“I will bring her when she is awake.” He informed her. She nodded tapping his back with a smile. Mary liked the young guy a lot. He was there taking care of his wife and mother-in-law all the while. She could not have wished for a better husband for Olivia. She deserved to have a caring husband after everything she had been through.

Thomas was wondering whether to wake her or not, but he thought the better of it. He stood up after putting her head gently on the bench. He then put his hand under her head and the other under her knees. He pulled her up in his strong arms and bade Aunt Mary goodbye before leaving the hospital. Mary could not help but smile as she saw them. At least, Amelia would not have to worry about her daughter’s married life.

Thomas made her sit on the passenger’s seat. From the encounter in the villa when he went to her room to find her sprawled in lingerie, he knew how oblivion she was when she was asleep. She was indeed not a light sleeper.

He secured the seatbelt before starting the car. The whole way to the apartment, he kept looking at her to see if she was in a comfortable position. She was sleeping soundly without knowing what was happening.

They reached the apartment within a few minutes since the hospital was not that far away. He again picked her up in bridal style and took her to his penthouse. She was hiding her face in his chest while snoring softly.

He could not help but chuckle as he looked at her. She seemed to love hiding her face in his chest—even in her sleep. He could not deny how amazing it felt when he did that. It gave him a sense that he could protect her and that she relied on him.

He knew how strong she was, but there was nothing wrong with relying on someone who understood you. It lessened the burdens a person felt inside the head. He felt great that she had started trusting him and relying on him.

He laid her down on the bed and was about to move to cover her with the comforter, but she turned around holding his hand tightly with both of hers. He tried to free her hand softly but could not. He had no choice but to sit on the bed beside her.

Her hair had dropped on the side of her face, so he brushed them off with his thumb. Her face looked tired but the innocence was not going anywhere.

It was so confusing how she was the same person who he had met at the club. She looked so confident and passionate while dancing that he could only stare with amazement even when he was drunk. He was enchanted by how sexy and gorgeous she was. And there she was sleeping cutely in front of him now.

He had misjudged her a lot. Initially, he would excuse every shit behavior he did by thinking that she was just a stripper. That was such a lame and fucked-up excuse he gave to himself. Now, he had understood that judging someone without any reason was not the right thing to do. Some people seem so saint but are not how they appear to be. And on the other hand, some people did something questionable but were so pure and nice. He had gotten that after meeting Olivia.

He put his free hand over her hands that were grabbing his arm. He could not remove his eyes from her face.

Her eyes looked so swollen and her nose red. Except for the few freckles, there was nothing on her face that covered her skin. Without makeup, she looked even younger than her age. She was a couple of years younger than him, but she seemed so mature for her age. He was amazed at everything she was. He had never seen such an interesting woman before.

None of the girls before her intrigued him as much as Olivia—even Jade whom he thought he had feelings for. If it was not something special, what was it?

He knew that something was special between them. It did not have a name, but it did exist…so complicated yet so comforting.

He had gotten used to her presence around him. That happened not once. He did not even want Jade to stay with him after they spent time together with pleasure. But Olivia was different. He had not even had anything with her yet, and he was already comfortable and even looked forward to seeing her face.

Was it love?

Just the thought of it was enough to send his heart into a frenzy. He freed his hand from hers gently and sat back. His heart was scared.
