Chapter 47: Chapter 47
“Why are you sulking?” Thomas asked with a mischievous glint in his eyes as Olivia sat there with folded arms. She was looking to the side. Never once did she look at him since they got into the restaurant.
“What I do or do not do has nothing to do with you.” She turned and said with a curt tone before turning her eyes away again.
Thomas could not help but chuckle.
“I have never seen such extensive use of do’s in one sentence.” He said jokingly making her throw a glare at him.
Besides his actions, she was also mad because the whole restaurant was looking at her when they entered. Why wouldn’t they? Her hair was a bird’s nest, she was wearing her casual shoes that she wore inside the house, and her dress had creases all over. He, on the other hand, looked like someone out of a fashion magazine. The jerk was ready, and he did not think about her look for once.
He could have at least given her some time to get ready before taking her to a high-class restaurant. She did not know his definition of ‘cozy’ was something so extravagant.
There were elegant couples who were properly dressed. She looked like a madwoman among them. Ugh! She was so mad at him. There was nothing on the table which she could bang on his head.
“Don’t talk to me unless you would like the food to be poured all over your head.” She pointed at the waiter, who was bringing them their food, with the same mad expressions. Thomas looked horrified for a moment. Seeing how angry she was, it was not impossible for her to do just that.
What was he to do when she was not listening to her? She was hungry but she was denying it. He knew that even if he brought her food, she would not eat. Spending the past days with her told him how stubborn she was.
Besides, he wanted to make it up to her. He did feel bad for saying such mean things to her. The problem was that when he was angry, he wanted to be left alone. She told him he was immature and childish. That was the last straw. He sarcastically lashed out his anger. But he also knew that he did not show one percent of how angry he actually was feeling.
Seeing her with Leo all friendly and open made his blood boil. He had never talked to him like that. She was so happy with him. He knew that they were friends, but the unpleasant feelings were indescribable.
Moreover, he was finding her adorable at that moment as she sat across him with folded arms and angry expressions. Her rough hair was adding to her cuteness. It seemed like she had not brushed them after waking up. He could not help smiling while looking at her until she threatened him with pouring the food over his head. His smile faltered. He served her some Tourtiere. He had been in love with the food last time he was in Canada. He had also ordered some loaded fries and sandwiches. She remained quiet when the waiter took their order, so he had to order by himself.
“Eat up.” He said when she remained unmoving. He was being so patient with her. Again, it was not like him at all.
“I don’t want to.” She rolled her eyes as she said that. He sighed.
“We don’t want another round of stomach grumbling now, do we?” He said with serious tone, but she could feel the playfulness in his tone.
She narrowed her eyes at her but she knew he was right. She was famished, so she had to eat if she did not want repeat of the events. She was still, low-key embarrassed.
She picked up her fork and started to eat while completely ignoring him. He smiled as he saw her enjoy her food. He also started eating his food.
In a quiet atmosphere, they had their dinner. His eyes kept drifting towards her time and again. He was unable to understand why he could not get enough of her. She was busy with her food and he still could not remover his eyes from her. Was it weird that he was finding her attractive even in such state?
It probably was, but he could not help himself. She was indeed one beautiful being sent into the world. With no makeup and disheveled state, she was getting him feel things.
“Let’s go to the park. There is a theme park just around the corner.” Thomas offered when they were done with the dinner. She still had not spoken a word.
“I want to go home.” Olivia said looking at anything but him.
His heart flipped at such a simple statement. Home! Did she unintentionally call the place home? Had she started to accept what was between them?
He kept staring at her quietly when she looked at him with a frown. She had caught him staring at her. She was wondering why he had gotten quiet suddenly.
“Olivia, I am sorry. I should not have said such things to you this afternoon.” Thomas apologized finally. Olivia’s eyes were about to pop out. Her heart literally skipped a beat.
He apologized. It came a surprise even when it was not the first time he had done that.
“I wish Leo was here so you could apologize to him not me.” She said briefly. Her mind was still stuck on the fact that he had apologized to her. She still could not get used to it.
“Why would I…” He particularly yelled but stopped himself when he noticed a few pair of eyes turning towards him, “Why would I apologize to that creep?” He said in a quieter tone now. Olivia was getting irritated again. He asked as if she had said the most absurd thing in the world.
“Because you were rude to him. He is my childhood friend. You have no right to treat him like that in front of me.” She said in a single breath. She had been piling up her frustration, but he still was not getting her point. A simple point that he was refusing to acknowledge.
She saw him taking a deep breath.
“Let’s forget about him, shall we?” He said trying to calm himself down. Even hearing his name was enough to set him off.
“Not unless you promise that you won’t do something like that again.” She did not want to let go of the opportunity to make him see sense so she said it. A frown appeared on his face.
“I won’t. Happy? Besides, it is not like we are going to see him again.” He brushed it off. He did not want to make a promise, but they were not going to see him again. So all was good. That was what he thought.
“We might. He has invited both of us to his birthday party this weekend.” She casually sipped on her soft drink making him take a pause from what he was doing.
“What? When did that happen now?” He asked with the frown returning again.
“He texted to tell me a while ago.” She said shrugging. With how casually she was talking about him was making him angry again. This Leo guy was getting on his nerves.
“Tell him we are not coming. We have things to do.” Thomas said with his authoritative tone making Olivia frown. She had told him numerous times not to use that tone with her.
“What? Are you really planning to go?” He asked with surprise. He did not think she was considering his invitation.
“Why wouldn’t I? He is my friend, Thomas. Why are you being so difficult? I had made it clear before signing the contract that we would not have a say in each other’s business. Why are you behaving so unusually?” She asked genuinely being perplexed. It was part of the contract that they would not try to control what the other did.
He had been behaving so weirdly. She was unable to understand his one-sided beef with Leo.
“Okay. Let’s forget this. We are here to enjoy our time. I have already apologized and promised that I won’t hurt you again. Let’s go now, please.” He tried to normalize his tone. There was no way he could treat her with harshness. She was indeed sensitive. He had understood what her mom meant and why she had told him to be gentle with her.
She had been quiet and mad at him for hours now.
She seemed to contemplate about his words. She did not believe his promise. But he had apologized which was a huge thing for him to do. May be, she should just forget about what happened and enjoy her time.
Thomas called the waiter and paid the bill. He grabbed his things from the table and stood up.
“Shall we?” Thomas offered her his hand with a smile. She could see that he was trying hard to make it up to her. How long could she have been mad at him when he kept being nice to her?
She put her hand in his and he made her stand up. Hand in hand, they exited the restaurant to have some fun.
Neither of them could really understand why they had not let go of the other’s hand even when they were out of the restaurant and in the car.
