Chapter 60: Chapter 60
Chapter 60: He is so arrogant!
"What is it?" Sean followed her gaze with a puzzled look, only to notice she was looking in the direction of the large crowd of people.
" I'll be right back," she said as she got out of the car quickly and ran towards there.
” Andrea! Where are you going?" Sean yelled and went after her.
Andrea pushed the onlookers and got a clearer view of what was going on. She thought it was just her imagination a while ago, but seeing Jace lying on the ground with bruises all over his body made her heart ache.
”Are you alright?" She crouched down as she queried with a worried look on her face.
Jace groaned loudly. "I'm definitely not okay," he said back while clutching his stomach.
Andrea and Sean helped him up and took him in the direction of the car. "How did you end up there? Who did this to you?" She asked agitatedly.
"Don't worry about me; I will be fine, sis," Jace mumbled as Andrea helped him get into the backseat.
"Sis?" Sean thought inwardly as he scrutinised the young-looking guy with bruises on his face.
Andrea was about to get into the front seat when suddenly Jace held her arm, stopping her from getting in. "Why do you want to sit with the driver?" He inquired queerly.
Andrea paused and looked at Sean, who was glaring at Jace. "I see you must have been beating badly; I will let this pass," he said as he yanked Andrea's hand from his grip.
"Get in," Sean ordered her as he opened the front passenger seat for her.
”Sis, What's his problem? He is so arrogant! You shouldn't pay him a dime."
Andrea palmed her forehead, feeling overwhelmed by the situation. "He's not a driver; he's my... boyfriend," she yelled as she squeezed her eyes shut.
Sean's lips curled into a smile after hearing this.
Jace burst into laughter, only when the pain began to resurface did he stop. "Sis, what are you saying? He looks older than you. He should be old enough to be our uncle, right?"
Andrea's face reddened in embarrassment as she suddenly recalled the fact that Sean was six years older than her. She glanced at him and studied him for a while, and suddenly the car screeched to a halt.
"You better speak some sense into him before I throw him out while I'm driving," Sean said in a serene tone.
"Jace, can you please shut up?" Andrea spoke quietly, her words coming out just above a whisper.
"Where are we throwing him? It's getting late." Sean said as he glanced at his wristwatch casually.
Andrea pursed her lips. "I'm afraid he is not in the condition to manage on his own. We are bringing him home."
Sean remained silent as he cursed himself inwardly for passing through this route; if only he hadn't, the siblings wouldn't have met.
The remaining drive was silent until they finally arrived home. Andrea got out of the car and proceeded to help Jace out. She placed his hand around her waist for support as they walked into the house.
Sean felt his veins throbbing. He didn't care that Jace is her brother, and even if it were her dad in this condition, he wouldn't let anyone take advantage of her in any manner.
He abruptly stood in the way, stopping her from going in with Jace. "Just look at you. I will help him, not as if you are strong," he clicked his tongue in annoyance.
"No, I don't need your help; Andrea and I are fine." Jace shot him a look before turning his gaze back to her.
"I'm very tired; let's go in," he said, and Andrea nodded with a smile.
Sean could only fold his arm on his chest as he trailed behind them while maintaining a poker face.
They got into the guest room, and she helped him lay on the bed. "You can stay here. Please feel at home."
"Sis, I would like to apologise to you. I mean, back then, I couldn't stand by you; instead, I joined the others to say terrible things about you. I know I have hurt you, and I hope you can forgive me,” he said as he bowed his head in a downcast manner.
Andrea sighs silently. "It's all in the past, Jace; I never held it against you; you were just concerned about Granny's health like everyone else," she said, placing her hand on his cheek.
"So about your pregnancy...did you..." He paused and let out a sigh.
Andrea chuckled. "I get it. It's late; I'm sure Ruby and Pearl are having their naps already; if not, I would have brought them to you."
"You had twins?" Jace widened his eyes in surprise.
Andrea smiled as she nodded. She brought out her phone from her purse and showed him the pictures of the twins. "They are little versions of their dad; they don't even look like me a bit."
"Oh, wait, that dude is their father?" Jace asked as he raised his brows, ungluing his eyes from the picture of the twins.
"Yes, Sean is the twins' father. Enough of the talking. Get some rest while I make dinner," she said, covering him with the duvet before going out of the room.
******
The siblings were having dinner in the dining room, and suddenly Andrea thought about Graham's.
She cleared her throat slightly. "Oh yeah, how about Graham's?"
A loud sigh escaped his lips as he dropped his fork and looked at her. "Didn't you hear what happened?"
She slowly shook her head. "About what?"
"After the company went bankrupt, dad sold the house in order to offset his debts. They moved into a small apartment, and recently I got a call from Naomi that my mom had run off to her lover," he said as he balled his fist tightly. He felt his veins throbbing already.
" Ah! What lover?" she exclaimed.
"Actually, Dad is not Lisa's father. My mom was pregnant with Lisa for her secret lover and blamed it on Dad back when they were dating.
"What! " Andrea's jaw fell as her eyes expanded from shock.
Jace nodded. "I heard dad suffered a heart attack after reading the letter mom had left him before running off with Lisa and her baby."
" Huh? What about Naomi and Lachlan now?
"Dad was admitted to the hospital, and as for Naomi, I don't know her whereabouts," he said casually as he lifted his shoulder in a half shrug.
Andrea held his hand. " Jace, I know everything must be tough on you, but I just want you to know I'm always here for you," she smiled faintly.
"Thank you, sis; I'm glad I was able to meet you again."
Sean, who had been listening to their conversation from a corner, came into view. After hearing everything, he didn't feel even one percent of guilt for making Graham's go bankrupt. They didn't have a bit of humanity when they mistreated Andrea and threw her out while she was pregnant.
He wrapped his arms around her neck from behind. "You told me you were going to make dinner for me. Bring it quickly. I'm starving!" He lowered his gaze to her face and pulled her nose.
Andrea pouted her lips and took his hand away from her nose. 'Hey, would you stop doing that? How about Ruby and Pearl?'
"Fast asleep,"
She nodded and rose to her feet. "Let me get you your dinner." She gave him a smile before leaving.
Sean sat down and observed Jace, who had been looking at him all this while.
"What? " Sean asked unceremoniously as he tapped his fingers on the table.
"Are you serious about my sister, or are you just a jerk like Philip, who only deceived her?"
"Hey kid! You better watch your mouth; don't you ever compare me with that scumbag."
Jace scoffed loudly. "Why?" I was just saying. If you truly love my sister, why don't you get married to her?"
"Of course I will get married to her."
"At least do it before the kids begin to talk. Action speaks louder than words," he mumbled as he lowered his head to his food.
Sean's face contorted as a muscle in his jaw twitched. He couldn't stand the kid for a sec; he felt like throwing him down from the balcony.
Just then, Andrea emerged from the kitchen with Sean's meal. "Here you go; I hope you enjoy it."
Sean looked at her suspiciously before uncovering the meal, only to catch sight of a plate of pasta filled with mint leaves. "What is this?" His voice came out just above a whisper.
"Isn't this what you like? Your food should be well garnished, right? So I decided to try something different. Eat up quickly," she said, relaxing her chin on her palms and feeling pleased with herself.
Sean shook his head in disbelief; he had to pick out all the mint leaves from the food before having his dinner.
.......
Andrea hummed a happy tone as she checked up on the babies who were napping in the crib.
"Goodnight, my little angels," she muttered as she kissed them both on the forehead.
Just then, the door was pushed open, revealing Sean, who had a dumbfounded expression on his face as he made his way over to her.
"Is everything alright?" Andrea inquired as she tied up her black shoulder-length hair in a ponytail.
"I thought you were fast asleep," he mumbled.
"So you would sneak into my room and lay on my bed?' She placed her hand on her waist as she rolled her eyes.
"No, I just wanted to discuss something important with you. It almost slipped my mind. Luckily, you are awake," he said as he sat at the edge of the bed.
"What is that? I hope everything is fine."
"The thing is, I will be going on a business trip tomorrow morning. I will be back in the next three days. I just want to say, You should be on your best behaviour while I'm gone," he said, stroking her hair.
Her mouth was set in a hard line: "three days?" She repeated it quietly, her voice just above a whisper.
He cupped her cheeks, making her face him directly. "It's just three; before you know it, I will be back." His eyes softened as he said it with tenderness in his tone.
She nodded her head. "I understand you are a very busy man, and you have a lot of things to take care of," she said nonchalantly.
"You should go to sleep, then," he said, placing a kiss on her forehead.
Sean got up to leave, and suddenly Andrea held his arm and said, "Where are you going?" Won't you spend the night here?
A warm smile spread across his face. " And here I was thinking you don't like it," he whispered into her ear.
They both laid on the bed while keeping their distance. Andrea shut her eyes, and by the time she opened them again, she noticed his breathing had turned even.
She slowly moved closer to him, her gaze focused on his lips. She leaned in and placed a light peck on his lips. "Goodnight, Grumpy," she whispered softly.
Suddenly, Sean wrapped his arms around her stomach and pulled her close to his chest, his warm breath fanning her cheeks. "I love you, Andrea; no, I should call you baby," he mumbled in his sleep.
