Chapter 38: Chapter 38
Chapter 38: That's good news, Lena
CRESCENT WOOD MANSION
Sean came back home to his parents for dinner, and immediately he came in, he regretted his decision. Carmen was at his house again, setting the dining table like a typical housewife.
Carmen noticed his figure by the door; she quickly wiped her hands with a clean towel before rushing over to him. She stared at him and tried to steal a kiss, which Sean swiftly dodged.
She bit her lip till it turned pale. "How was work today? Hope it isn't stressful?" She wrapped her arms around his neck.
"Can you stop acting like a typical housewife?" He couldn't help but let his thoughts out as he took her hands off his neck.
"Of course not. Don't get me wrong, Sean. By the way, dinner is ready. I want you to quickly freshen up and come downstairs for dinner," she smiled sweetly.
Sean shook his head in disbelief. "Crazy lady," he muttered under his breath as he took the stairs.
Minutes later, Sean came downstairs, and his parents and Carmen were already seated, probably waiting for him to join them.
"Good evening, Mom and Dad," He said as he took a seat.
"How was work today? I just wanted to say Carmen's parents and us have come to a conclusion," Mrs. Wilson said nonchalantly.
"And what is that?" Sean inquired curiously.
"We decided on a date for the engagement party. Which will be held two weeks from now, and the wedding will be the following week. What do you think?" Mrs. Wilson said with a lopsided grin.
Sean remained silent for a while. He glanced at Carmen, who was staring at him impatiently. He suddenly cleared his throat.
"It's perfect,"
"Thank goodness you are okay with it. You know how difficult it is to please you." Mrs. Wilson chuckled.
After dinner, Sean prepared to leave, and just then Mrs. Wilson stopped him.
"Son, Carmen is about to leave too; I think you should drop her off at home."
"But I'm not heading that way."
"It's so late. Will you be at ease to know that your soon-to-be wife is taking a cab home?"
Sean tightened his fist. "Alright, Carmen can come with me."
Immediately after Sean's car came to a halt outside the Wallners residence, Carmen leaned in for a kiss, but Sean managed to push her away.
"Sean, what's wrong with you? Come on, I just want to give you a peck on the lips."
"There's no need for that. I suggest you go in immediately," he said unceremoniously as he looked ahead of him.
Okay, goodnight, hubby," she said, leaning in for the second time, and this time around, Sean shot her a deadly glare. She got out quickly and proceeded into the house.
……..
Sean sat down on the balcony of his villa, drinking from a bottle of red wine, while staring at a picture of the twins Elena posted earlier.
"I would love to see the babies," he thought as he stared at the picture with a half-smile.
He felt so hurt and helpless that he couldn't even tell his parents about their grandchildren. The kids belong to him, but he can't even claim them as his own. Sean never thought of telling Andrea the truth because he felt it might lead to something dreadful.
"Of course I know you'd love to see your kids. The ball is in your court, Sean. It's not too late to fly to Australia and tell Andrea the truth; hopefully she might give you a chance."
Sean turned around and found Sonny coming over to him; he was wearing black pants and a denim jacket with his hair completely tousled.
"What are you doing here at this hour?" Sean inquired.
"Oh, I drank a lot and I couldn't drive anymore, so I decided to come to my buddy's house to crash for the night." Sonny took a seat and poured himself a glass of wine.
Sean wrinkled his face. "Do you know you reek of alcohol right now?"
"I know, I know. Don't try to interchange the discussion. Tell me why you don't want to tell Andrea the truth about her pregnancy." Sonny asked.
Sean let out a loud sigh. "I believe if she finds out, she might hate me for destroying her life, and worse, she might not let me be close to my kids. I don't want any of this to happen."
"You don't want her to hate you because you feel something for her already, right? You don't want to be apart from the babies because you want to be a part of their growing process, right? In short, you want to be with your true family." Sonny smiled.
Sean snorted loudly. "First of all, stop giving me that smile; you are drunk, and that's why you are spouting nonsense."
"Yeah, I might be drunk, but you know deep down I'm speaking the truth. I am saying everything in your heart out loud for you to listen. I want you to sit down and think this through. Stop punishing yourself, Sean. I know you want to be there, even though you refuse to acknowledge the fact."
Sean nodded forcibly. "You are right; I really want to be there, but anytime I think about Carmen, my eagerness deflates. I feel like I'm cheating on her. I blame myself for taking her virginity."
Sonny smacked his forehead in frustration. "Look, Sean, how about you do it this way? You go to Australia to know more about Andrea and spend time with your kids, and I bet in that period of time you won't feel conflicted on what path to take anymore."
"I will go to bed now." Sean got up and went into the bathroom.
Sonny grinned "I know once he spends time with her and his babies, he won't want to get married to Carmen anymore," he thought inwardly.
.............
Two weeks pass by in the blink of an eye. south Song Street, at the condominium. Andrea was seated in the living room cuddling the babies to sleep, and just then the door was pushed open, revealing Elena, who walked in with a bright smile.
"Someone looks happy today," Andrea teased with a smile.
" well… Ryan came over to see me today and told me his parents would like to meet me soon," she said with a chuckle.
"That's good news, Lena. I'm very happy for you."
" right? Andrea I'm feeling so excited and nervous. I mean, finally, I will be getting married to him, and then again, what if his parents don't like me?" she said as she twisted her buttocks on the couch.
"Relax, Lena, you got this. There's nothing to be nervous about. I bet Ryan's parents are going to love you just as much as I do." Andrea patted her hand with a smile.
Elena sighs loudly. "Thank you so much, Andrea. Where are Aunty and Jasmine?" she inquired.
"Oh, they are in the kitchen preparing dinner," she said nonchalantly.
"Okay, I will freshen up and come downstairs to join you. These two little rascals are finally asleep." Elena chuckled softly as she headed upstairs.
Andrea laughed, and her gaze returned to Ruby and Pearl, who were both sleeping on her chest.
Just then, the sudden, sharp sound from the doorbell startled her. She got up and placed the babies in the crib before she made her way to the door. As she opened the door, a barrage of flashing lights and loud voices hit her all at once. She swore she saw more than 20 heads standing outside the door.
Andrea stood confusedly, trying to process the situation, and just then a reporter called out to her, poking a microphone in her face.
"Ms. Andrea, we heard your kids have no father. How true is that?"
Andrea tried to make her way back into the house, and the reporters surrounded her. She tried to push her way through the crowd of reporters, but the flashes of the camera and the persistent questioning made it impossible for her to move.
"Ms. Andrea, were you raped or did you have a one-night stand?"
"What will you tell your daughters if they grow up to know they are bastards?"
"I heard your ex-fiance is the father of the kids, and he dumped you because you are the illegitimate daughter of the Grahams." Is this true? "
"Ms. Andrea, How are you coping with being a single mother? "
"I heard you were fired from work? How will you fend for your kids and yourself, or are you going to keep relying on your friend?"
"Ms. Andrea, Don't you think you added extra liabilities to your friend, who is just a mere nurse?"
They gathered around her with their microphones as they bombarded her with abusive questions.
Andrea felt suffocated in their midst. She shut her eyes as they threw a series of questions at her. She didn't know how to answer any of them. All she wanted was for the reporters to leave her alone so she could go back to the house.
As the beam of the camera continued to blind her, Andrea realized these people were right. She was a total failure, and she couldn't keep depending on Elena for every little thing now that she was a mother herself. After all, Elena will be getting married soon, and eventually she will have to leave here.
Andrea felt her feet glued to the ground; she couldn't move or speak as she just stood there, her eyes turning misty. She felt a strong whoosh of breeze blowing in her direction, making her shiver all over her body.
"You have 10 seconds to all scurry out of here." They heard a deep, magnetic voice that conveyed so much power and authority.
