Chapter 137: Chapter 137
The doctor transferred Andrea to the VIP ward as per Sean's instructions, where she lay motionless on the bed, her porcelain skin looking like alabaster and her chapped lips a faint reminder of her struggles. The soft hum of machines and the gentle beeps of monitors surrounded her, a stark contrast to the chaos that had erupted just days ago.
Sean sat beside her, his eyes fixed on her face as he held her hand tightly. It had been two long days since she'd last opened her eyes, and the uncertainty was eating away at him. "It's a brand new day, baby," he whispered, his voice low and husky. "Won't you open your eyes for me?"
As he spoke, his phone vibrated in his pocket, breaking the silence. He reluctantly released Andrea's hand and rose from the stool, his gaze lingering on her pale face, before he stepped out into the hospital corridor.
"Boss, I've arrived at the hospital," his assistant, Drew, said over the phone. "But I can't seem to find you—did I misremember your instructions?"
Sean let out a low sigh before responding. "Turn around," he said dryly. "I'm right here."
Drew turned around, looking sheepish as he realized his mistake. "Sorry about that, boss," he said, holding out a bag filled with toiletries and essential items. "I've got everything you asked for."
Sean took the bag from Drew and nodded curtly. "Thanks," he said. "You can leave."
Just two nights without Ms. Andrea were taking their toll. He looked like he had a terrible night, having barely slept.
"I hope Madam recovers soon," Drew thought to himself as he walked out of the hospital.
The day slowly went down, and Andrea's assistant, Anna dropped by with flowers, followed by Tessa, Jace, Jasmine, Elena, Jacob, Alicia, Sonny, Alec, and Lin.
As Sean emerged from the doctor's office, he received a call from his mother asking him to come home urgently. He left immediately after informing Jacob to stay with Andrea, knowing she might wake up at any time.
Sean stepped on the brakes, and the car screeched to a halt. He didn't bother parking properly as he rushed into the house, wondering what an emergency it might be.
He walked into the living room to find Ruby and Pearl crying while Mrs. Wilson urged them to eat the meal she had prepared for them.
"Boohoo! I don't want to eat this," Pearl said, kicking her short legs in distress.
"Granny, where did Mommy go?" Ruby asked calmly but with tears in her eyes.
Mrs. Wilson didn't know what to say as Sean arrived just in time.
"Hello!" he called out, and they all turned around immediately.
"Daddy!" Pearl and Ruby exclaimed in unison, rushing into his arms.
"My angels, how have you been? Did you trouble Grandma?" Sean asked softly.
"We've missed you and Momma," they chorused in unison.
"Daddy, where is Mommy? Have you come to take us home?"
Sean forced a smile and placed them on his thigh. "The thing is, Mommy isn't feeling fine right now, so we need to let her rest so she can recover quickly, and then we can all go home."
"So stop being naughty babies," he added gently. "You should eat whatever Grandma makes for you because she did it with love, okay?"
"Daddy, Momma will be home soon, so Ruby and I will be on our best behavior," Pearl said, pecking her father on the lips.
"Ruby, give Daddy a kiss too." Ruby did the same, giggling sweetly.
"That's more like it. My girls look prettier when they smile," said Mrs. Wilson, sighing in relief.
"Only Sean can handle the girls. I just hope Andrea gets better soon, so they can all live together happily."
Sean played with the girls and read them a bedtime story before managing to put them to sleep himself. He then snuck back to the hospital to be with Andrea. It was now a tradition for Jacob to bring him dinner every now and then, knowing Sean wouldn't be able to spend the entire night hungry.
Like a sprinkle of dust, three days passed quickly. Everyone was devastated by Andrea's condition and its effect on Sean. During this period, he never showed his face in public or went home to get enough rest.
He was always there, sitting beside her, waiting for her to regain consciousness with high hopes. "Andrea, please just open your eyes. It's almost been a week, and there's so much I'd like to say to you, my love."
"Everyone misses you a lot," he continued, "and they keep coming every day to check up on you. The twins have been throwing tantrums at my parents' house, and I've run out of excuses to give them."
"They're stubborn, just like their mom, right?" Sean let out a small smile and added, "The twins have refused to speak to me unless I bring them to see you, but I can't let them see you in this condition. Jacob wants to get married, and Elena says she won't marry him until you recover."
"These past five days have been the worst of my life." Sean kissed her hand and bowed his head as he found himself overcome with tears. He was indeed a mess without her.
"Please, just come back to me, Andrea." His tears fell onto her hand. The next minute, she moved her fingers. Sean thought he might have imagined it when she moved them again.
As Sean approached the door, a weak voice called out to him. He turned back and found Andrea awake, her eyes wide open. She smiled weakly at him, her voice hoarse from lack of use.
"Baby, you're up," Sean said, his voice filled with joy.
He rushed to her side, but pulled back immediately when he saw her wince in pain. "I'm so sorry, baby. I got carried away."
"It's all right," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Sean helped her sit up and placed a pillow behind her back to support her. "You must be thirsty," he said. "Let me get you some water."
Andrea nodded, taking a few sips of water before speaking again. "How long have I been out?"
"You've been asleep for five days now," Sean replied. "And don't worry about our son; he's doing well. The doctor says it's best he stays in the NICU for close monitoring."
Andrea's eyes scanned the room and saw so many flowers while searching for any sign of their baby. When she didn't find anything, she asked, "What does he look like?"
"He looks just like his beautiful mom," Sean said, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead.
Andrea's eyes welled up with tears. "Take me to see him," she whispered.
Sean hesitated. "Not yet, Andrea. You can't move around as much as you'd like right now."
Andrea groaned in frustration, but Sean held firm. He knew she needed to prioritize her health over all else.
Sean's voice was filled with concern as he asked, "Are you in pain?"
Andrea's eyes fluttered open. "Wait, where are our twins and everyone?" she asked weakly.
Sean's expression softened. "Don't worry, I'll go get everyone. I'll call them and let them know you're awake," he said, trying to reassure her.
Before leaving, Sean leaned in to gently brush a strand of hair from Andrea's forehead. "I'll be right back," he whispered.
As Sean exited the room, he felt a mix of emotions. He was thrilled that Andrea had regained consciousness, but he was also worried about her recovery.
Meanwhile, the doctor entered the room and began checking Andrea's vitals. He nodded to himself, seemingly satisfied with her progress. Sean pulled out his phone and dialed a number, informing everyone that Andrea had regained consciousness.
