Chapter 114: Chapter 114
"You must be the new nurse, Elena Thompson. We spoke on the phone earlier," the head nurse of the neurology department said with a warm smile.
Elena nodded back, returning a gentle smile. "And you must be Ms. Hildegard. It's nice to finally meet you."
"You too. I'm the one in charge of showing you around, but unfortunately something important came up, and I got someone to fill up for me; she should be here any second from now," she said while checking the time on her phone.
A few minutes later, Jasmine walked up to them and smiled upon recognizing Elena, whom she hadn't seen for a long time. "Sis Lena, what a surprise! What are you doing here?" Jasmine asked in disbelief.
"You two know each other?" Hildegard asked in a slightly confused tone; she could recall that she never mentioned Elena's name to Jasmine.
They both nodded their heads at the same time. "Eleanor and I are very familiar with each other," Jasmine responded enthusiastically.
"That's great! I'm sure you two have a lot of catching up to do. Once again, you are welcome to our hospital. I got to go now," Hildegard said and jogged away, leaving them alone in the hallway.
"Sis Lena, does Andrea know you are in New York?" She never mentioned it to me," Jasmine said curiously as they walked out of the neurology department, shoulder to shoulder.
"Andrea doesn't know I moved to New York, and you must also keep this a secret or else you'd ruin the surprise. I want to tell her myself when I completely settle down here and think it's convenient," Elena replied in a gentle tone.
" Oh!" Jasmine uttered it thoughtfully. Although Elena sounded truthful, she had this strong hunch that Elena wasn't being sincere about the whole situation. Why will someone working as a head nurse in one of the biggest and most renowned hospitals in New South Wales leave all that behind and move all the way to New York to start afresh?
Although she heard about Elena's ex-boyfriend being gay, she could vividly remember Elena was doing fine and even tried to move on, so she couldn't think it was the possible reason for Elena's decisions.
After Jasmine showed her all the areas of the departments, Elena brought out her phone, saying, "Thank you for the tour. I have to go now.
"You're highly welcome. See you at work tomorrow."
Elena beamed a gracious smile before hailing a cab, and like the speed of light, she was already out of Jasmine's sight. Truth be told, she wasn't pleased at all to know Jasmine works here.
Although Jasmine found her behavior a little suspicious, she decided not to meddle in her and Andrea's affairs.
After all, she had her relationship with Jace to worry about and to keep a secret from Andrea. She was very much aware they weren't biological siblings, but the fact that she was older than him made her feel ashamed of herself.
She was doing something forbidden that no eye or ear should see or listen to.
"Speaking about the demon, and he calls," Jasmine mumbled while grinning sweetly before answering her phone.
"Hey, babe, are you available for lunch?" Jace asked immediately, she answered his call.
" Yeah. Where should we meet up?"
"Turn around, silly."
Jasmine turned around, only to see Jace approaching her with a dashing smile on his face. ''suprise to see me?" He said, spreading his arms, hoping Jasmine would give him a hug.
She crossed her arm over her chest and scoffed loudly. "You think too highly of yourself, don't you? Besides, I have already gotten this kind of surprise today'' she answered boredly.
"With who? Another guy?" Jace said, arching his brows at her curiously.
She chuckled softly and squeezed his cheeks. "You look so extremely cute when you are jealous. It was just sis Elena. She somehow moved to New York and happened to get a job at the place where I work," Jasmine responded. "I have this impression that she's acting all mysterious, like even Sis Andrea doesn't know she's in New York right now."
Jace remained silient for a moment before smiling at Jasmine, and then he wrapped an arm around her waist. "Luckily for us, that's not our problem. Let's get us something to eat. I'm super starving," he said, ushering her towards his sports car.
What Jasmine didn't know was that Jace was actually aware of Elena moving to New York. After the incident he witnessed at her apartment, he made sure to convince Elena that the city wasn't saved for her, as Justin might later get released from jail and come after her again or even send someone to do the job for him. Luckily, she agreed, and they both came back to New York together. She had made him promise not to tell anyone about it.
....
In an Italian-themed restaurant where only Italian dishes were served, Sean, Andrea, and the girls were settled down, waiting for the meal they ordered. It was the weekend, and the couple decided to get out of work and make time for their twin daughters.
"Baby, do you like it here?" Sean asked, getting a hold of her hand on the table.
Andrea, who was feeding Pearl water, only spared him a quick glance before redirecting her attention back to her daughter. "Is it enough?" She asked in a caring voice and set the glass back on the table.
"I wouldn't be sitting here if I wasn't okay with the place," Andrea responded with a sarcastic smile. Her phone began to ring, and Jacob's name displayed as the caller ID, making a sigh escape her lips.
"Hey, sis. It's the weekend today. Do you want to watch the new series the crew just produced a week ago with me?"
"I'm sorry, but I can't. I'm having dinner with Sean and the twins."
"Oh, it's fine. Maybe some other time."
"I see you don't have plans today. Why don't you go on a blind date instead with one of the girls mom chose for you? I'm sure that will lighten up her mood," Andrea kindly suggested. Mrs. Jones has been begging her to encourage Jacob to go on dates.
"Come on, do you plan to ruin my mood? You know what? I'm sorry for interrupting your peaceful dinner with your family; goodbye," he hung up before she even got the chance to say a word.
With a heavy sigh, Andrea set her phone aside and relaxed her palm on her cheek while making circles idly inside her drink with her straw.
"What's the problem? You look deeply worried." Sean observed while taking a sip from his drink.
"Honestly, you are the last person I feel like having a conversation with right now, but of course, what other choice do I have?" Andrea chuckled to herself while rolling her eyes.
"Baby, I'm always here for you, and trust me, there's nothing for you to be mad about."
"The thing is that mom wants Jacob to find someone to settle down and get married to as soon as possible, and she has been constantly bothering me to talk Jacob into it, and he gets mad at me whenever I bring up the topic," Andrea explained while massaging her temples.
Sean smiled and kissed her hand gently. "Baby, you need to chill; it's not your duty to get Jacob married. When the right time comes, no one will even pressurize him to get married; he will take the step on his own."
"But when? He's not even trying! If he keeps burying his face with work, then that day might as well never come."
"Trust me, a time will come when he will finally move on and find love just the way I did out of the blues the moment I found you," Sean said, making Andrea's heart flutter as a blush crept on her cheeks.
While the two lovebirds were lost in their own little world, Jasmine and Jace, who had just walked into the restaurant, sighted them immediately.
"Andrea and Sean are here; we need to leave quickly." Jasmine snapped and hurriedly pulled Jace out of the premises before their presence was brought to their attention.
