Chapter 20: Chapter 20
“ I had a test done on her because she keep calling me Daddy, Mara looked exactly like My Niece. I’m sure you know her, the one that did her birthday days ago and the result came out positive Which means, I’m her biological Dad. So, can you give an explanation on how it happened?” Alfred said.
Vanessa burst in to Laughter, she couldn’t believe what she just heard from him.
“ I’m listening” Alfred said and Vanessa Chuckled. “ Mara isn’t your child and this paper here..” She tore it in to pieces “ I don’t believe it, stay away from my Daughter, stay away from our lives please!” Vanessa wiped the tears in her eyes and stormed out of the study room.
Alfred was confused, he thought Vanessa would agreed to it because other girls would do that just to be close to him.
“ What is she?” she said looking at the door which Vanessa left opened.. “ Wow!” He stood up from the Chair and followed her but before he could say a word, Vanessa was already going out carrying Mara.
“ Daddy!” Mara Cried, trying to free herself from Vanessa. The Assistant was Happy that Vanessa was leaving with Mara but he dare not show it or get fired from work.
“ What should we do?” He asked Alfred who’s eyes were fixed on the door but he didn’t say a word. “ She’ll Come back” He said Smiling Mischievously. And as he predicted, Vanessa returned back holding Mara’s hand.
“ Tell your Assistant to take me back home or rather still, Show me the way out of this house” She was still talking when Mara released her hand and ran to Alfred.
“ Come back here!” She shouted but Mara was already in Alfred’s arms. “ She don’t want to go with you, she want to stay with her Daddy” Alfred said and Vanessa took in a deep breath to calm herself.
“ She’s not your Daughter, please allow us to go” She pleaded. Alfred Looked at His Assistant who was standing a little close to the door and signaled him. The Assistant Locked the Door and put the keys in his pocket.
“ The choice is yours” Alfred left the sitting room with Mara, leaving Vanessa and his Assistant. “ Sorry” The Assistant said to Vanessa who was burning in anger. “ Take me to him” She said and he led her out of the house through the back door.
They Entered the garden which was filled with different kind of fruits and flowers, Alfred was walking around the garden while Mara held tightly to his hand. Immediately she saw Vanessa, she hid behind Alfred’s back
“ I don’t want to go” Mara said and Vanessa Chuckled. “ Ungrateful kid, I’ve been searching for you all these days and I even got hospitalized because of you and…” She looked at Alfred.
“ What do you want me to do before you can Release my Daughter?” She asked him. Alfred Smiled, He walked to the chairs and sat on one, “ Have a sit” He said pointing to a chair in front of him.
Vanessa Moved closer and sat down on a chair, She looked at Mara and then at Alfred.
“ Take her inside and tell the maids to bring something delicious for our Guest” He said to His Assistant who was standing behind Vanessa. He carried Mara and took her inside the house leaving Alfred and Vanessa.
“ So, As I was saying. It turns out that I’m Mara’s Father which I don’t know how it all happened” Alfred said , But Vanessa was getting annoyed. “ Just go to the point and stop wasting my time” She said Angrily.
“ Okay, as you wish. I love Mara so much, I’m already used to being with her. I want you to Agree to marry me so that I will be seeing my kid every day” He said. Vanessa didn’t know if she should laugh or cry, Her pride had been hurt and she hated that.
“ And why should I agree to marry you?” She asked him. “ Because of your Daughter” He answered. “ And why would I marry you because of Mara? Do you think I will agree to it because of the fake result? If you’re looking for a wife to marry, there are many girls out there who are so desperate to Marry you.” Vanessa Raved
“ It’s a Good thing you know there are girls out there who want me. Anyways, what do you say about it? You should do this for your Daughter’s sake, I know you want her to live a comfortable life”
“ Yes I want Mara to live a comfortable life but not with someone who want to use us. Anyways” She stood up. “ I’m not interested and please, do not disturb us again” Vanessa said and away.
Mara tried to go to the room but the Assistant held her hand and made her day on the sofa, he wanted Vanessa to come out and carry Mara out of the house. He had also unlocked the Door when he came back to the sitting room with Mara.
“ Let’s go” Vanessa said to Mara and he handed her over to Vanessa. “ The Door is unlocked, I’m sorry” He apologized to Vanessa. “ It’s okay, But don’t come looking for us again please” She went out of the house ignoring Mara’s wailing.
“ What a relief!” The Assistant smiled at the door. “ I can finally breath some fresh Air in this house.” He touched his pot belly and rubbed it all round.
Alfred Entered the sitting room, he wasn’t looking Happy and The Assistant became scared. He knew everything would turn on him if he wasn’t been careful. He watched as Alfred climbed the stairs Angrily and he quietly left the house.
He Entered inside his room and slammed the door shut.
“ How dare she!” Alfred fumed. “ What an insult! She’s not even up to the level of girls chasing after me”
