Chapter 35: Chapter 35
“Do you know how much I missed you?” Shane breathed. He pulled me closer to him and wrapped his arms around my waist. I covered his hands with mine, while playing with the sleeve of his hoodie.
“Too much?” I laughed. Shane kissed my cheek and rested his head on mine.
“Way too much,” he returned. I glanced at his alarm clock, it read 9:08. I started to slowly unwrap his arms from my hips and eased my way off of his bed. Shane groaned and he grabbed my hand, pulling me back into his arms. “Don’t go yet,” he whined.
“I have to. I have to be home by ten on school nights, or else Michael will kill me. If he figures out that I was with you, there might be more consequences. He’s um… he's not exactly very fond of you.” I bit my lip. Shane heavily sighed and squeezed my hand.
“You do know what really happened that night, right?” he looked into my eyes. I took a deep breath and nodded.
“Ali showed up at your house, you didn’t know, she had plans, and you kicked her out. Nothing happened.” A smile crept onto his face as he leaned in for a kiss. I smiled and kissed him back, ruffling my hands through his hair.
I’m glad you know that… now,” he mumbled the last part. I sighed and grabbed his hands.
“I’m sorry,” I said.
“It’s okay, it’s behind us now. So, what happened after Mr. Parker took me away?” he hesitantly asked.
“Um… I asked Tyler why you two got in a fight, he told me a ridiculous lie and it led to me inches away from punching him, but Grace was there to stop me.” I lightly chuckled. “Then I went back to my locker and saw… that,” I pointed to the note and the rose.
“And then you came here…” he started tracing circles over my knuckles. I held my breath while waiting for him to finish his sentence. He never did.
“What about you? What were your consequences for getting into another fight?”
“A week in detention and no extra-curricular activities,” he paused, “including prom.”
“W-what?” I stuttered. “That’s so unfair! Just because of that freaking asshole. It’s not even your fault! Sure you hit first, but you had a good reason to! That’s the whole reason… you had enough courage to ask me to it, you deserve to go! Ugh! I hate this school!” I rambled. Shane cupped my face in his hands and stared at my lips.
“That doesn’t matter. It’s just a dance… just a dance. What matters is the fact that we’re together again.” He whispered.
“Right. Just a dance,” That every girl dreams about from kindergarten to eleventh and twelfth grade.
“I better get you home, I don’t want to be murdered by your brother,” Shane joked. I nodded and stood up, sliding my phone into the back pocket of my jeans as I did. Shane grabbed his car keys off of his bedside table and accompanied me to his car. He even opened the door for me. What a gentleman.
The ride home was mostly silent. Shane was driving with one hand, his other hand was holding mine. I could barely keep my eyes off of him. It was five months too long a wait. I never realized how much I missed him.
He’s also not allowed to go to prom… I guess there’s always next year.
I was so lost in thought that I didn’t realize him pull into my driveway. He had to clap multiple times to get me to focus. I shook my head and unbuckled my seatbelt.
“It was good… talking to you again, I mean.” I felt a blush creeping onto my face. Shane smirked and kissed me, full on the lips. I smiled, while wrapping my arms around his neck. When we pulled away, I was out of breath. He kissed my cheek once more, and mumbled a good-bye before I managed to get out of the car. I waved before turning around and walking to my front porch.
I watched the sleek black car back out of my driveway and then drive straight down my road. Smiling to myself, I unlocked the front door and entered the threshold. I was relieved to not be confronted by Michael- he was lying on the couch fast asleep. I’m surprised I didn’t hear him snoring from outside.
I had to practically drag myself up the old carpeted stairs and into my room. I didn’t bother with a shower, I’ll just take one tomorrow morning. I kicked off my shoes, changed into a pair of red and green pajama pants and a tank top, before falling back into bed. I pulled the purple comforter up to my shoulders and closed my eyes.
The second I closed my eyes, I started thinking about everything that's happened.
