Chapter 34: Chapter 34
Kaelyn's POV
"Ow," Tyler moaned. He was clutching his stomach and walking like he was drunk. I was trying to support him, but it wasn't working out very well. He's almost two heads taller than me and weighs way more than I can handle. He dragged his feet as I escorted him to the nurse's office.
I don't even know why I'm helping him in the first place. He's a creep and I don't like him at all. After what happened that one time in detention, who would blame me?
The nurse's office came into view. I was about to let go of him and send him into the room, when my curiosity got the better of me.
"Why did Shane do this to you?" I questioned. A smirk appeared on Tyler's face, but quickly turned into a look of sorrow.
"I was putting a simple note in your locker- and Shane caught me. He went crazy. He started throwing punches at me, saying that the only one who was allowed to invite you to prom was him and-"
I crinkled up my nose, something's wrong with his story. He didn't mention anything about prom when he said he was putting a note in my locker. I listened intently to what he had to say next.
"-and I told him that I've liked you for a long time. He didn't exactly like what I had to say and look where we are now." He looked around and lightly chuckled.
"You're lying." I stated matter-of-factly. The smile on Tyler's face faded.
"What are you talking about? Of course I'm not lying. Kaelyn, I've liked you for a really long time and I want to go to prom with you. I bought you a rose and made you a special card and everything. It's all in your locker." He said.
"Really? Then what did the note say? How the hell did you get into my locker?" I asked, through gritted teeth. Tyler looked around, as if he didn't know how to reply. I rolled my eyes and placed my hand on my hip.
"The note said," he paused, "Kaelyn Green, Prom? I would love to go with you. You're utterly gorgeous and you have a nice ass," he laughed. My eyes widened and I instantly pushed him back.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" I snapped. He laughed.
"Do you want the truth?" He has a stupid grin on his face. I really would like to slap some sense into him. "Shane's desperate and he wants you back. Ha. Like that will ever happen,"
"Do you realize what you just did? Because of you, asshole, Shane probably won't be able to go to prom because he's going to get suspended for knocking some sense into your empty skull."
"Why do you care so much about him anyways? He cheated on you!"
"No... I don't think he did," I mumbled.
"Please, he's a walking man-slut; of course he cheated." I balled my hands into fists, breathing heavily, I was about to throw a punch to his face when someone grabbed my raised arm.
"Let's get you out of here before you cause a scene," I instantly relaxed when I heard the voice. It was Grace. I dropped my arm back down to my side and glared at Tyler. He was still laughing. I purposely knocked into his shoulder, the one Shane probably dislocated, as I was walking past him.
Grace came to my side, she gave me a concerned look. "What was all that about?" she asked me. I huffed and turned into the hallway where my locker is located.
"It's a long story." I muttered. "Thanks for showing up at the right place at the right time. I don't know what would've happened if you hadn't."
"Anytime. You can tell me what happened when you're ready. I have to get back to class, before Medusa murders me." I laughed at her reference to the Wicked Witch of the West, or better well known as, Mrs. Sealock.
I scanned up and down the corridor for my locker, 398, and the moment I opened it a white rose fell to the ground; a sticky note was stuck on it. The rose and note found their way into my hands.
"This is Shane's handwriting," I mumbled, smiling to myself. I've made such a huge mistake. I wonder who gave him the combination to my locker...
I need to find him. I need to talk to him. I've been the biggest pain in the butt on the planet. How could I be this blind? How could I doubt my trust for him? I was wrong, so, so wrong. He never cheated on me. I've never lied to you Kaelyn. Those words kept running through my head. Everything he said on that dreadful day, five months ago, was true; how did I not realize it before.
I stared at the small square shaped card for what seemed like hours- when it was really only four minutes. I was so caught up in my little world that I didn't realize the bell rang. Students were piling into the hallway. There was a permanent smile on my face as I headed towards my next period.
The rest of the day dreaded on. All the teachers gave the same lecture about final exam week, which is only one week away. When the end of the day came, I couldn't have ran out the door any faster. I have to go find Shane. He must've been suspended because he wasn't in any of his classes for the rest of the day. All because freaking Tyler had to go and start stuff.
I had arranged for Carter to drive me over to his house. He had agreed, and was supposed to meet me outside the front doors when the bell rang. Eventually, he pulled up to the curb in his sleek, black Camaro. The town I live in is known as the one full of 'stupid teenagers who own expensive cars' to the other towns in our district.
I opened up the passenger side door, sat down, and then dumped my backpack in the backseats.
"Hey! Hey! Be careful with my baby," he cooed. I rolled my eyes.
"Sorry." I laughed. "Thanks for driving me,"
"Anytime. I'm glad you're going to see him, it's been way too long," he started driving away; away from the wretched place they trap students in for eight hours a day. I turned up the radio, head-banging to AC/DC. Carter was singing off-key and tapping his fingers on the steering wheel.
On the outside, I was as calm as I could be, but on the inside I was panicking.
Everything seemed to move in slow motion as Carter pulled parked on the side of the road, in front of Shane's house. He was about to turn off the car when I stopped him. I placed my hand over his and he looked me in the eye.
"You don't have to wait, I'll be fine," I assured him. He nodded.
"Goodluck, Kae," he smiled warmly at me. I returned that smile as I shut the door of his car.
Step. Step. Step.
I clutched the rose to my chest with my left hand and held the note in my right. The moment I stepped onto the porch, everything that I saw that night came back into my mind. Ali, who was lying on Shane's bed, the plant's pot I tripped over- and broke... everything.
I inched my way towards Shane's door. The door that was outside of his own room, his private door. The curtains weren't shut, I could see directly through them. I stared into his room, from an angle so he doesn't see me, and wiped away the water that was starting to form in the corner of my eye. Shane was innocently lying in bed, his feet stretched out over the edge, while looking at his phone.
Slowly, I walked towards the door. I didn't have to knock or anything, the moment I stood directly in front of the door, he was already on his feet. The door swung open and he leaned against the frame.
"I never thought I would see that stunning face here again," he smiled. I bit my lip. I watched his eyes flicker from the rose, to the note, and then back to my face.
"I um... I got your note," I awkwardly laughed. Shane's smile faded. I took a deep breath and then just let all of my emotions out. "I'm so sorry, truly. I was a bitch, a major one. I should've trusted you. I should've known you didn't lie. You never cheated. You hate Ali. How could I possibly be so stupid? I'm so sorry, Shane. I hurt you, and I shouldn't have. It took me five freaking months to realize this. How? I'm such an idiot." I stopped rambling the second he cupped my face in his hands.
"I'm glad you finally came to your senses," he mumbled. He melted his lips into mine, I had to stand on my tip-toes. I pushed him back into his room, shutting the door behind me. We laid down on his bed, never breaking the kiss. I never realized how much I missed his kisses. Things escalated pretty quickly. One second we're making out and the next, well, let's just say it wasn't just kissing.
