Chapter 33: Chapter 33
Imagine livin' like a king someday, a single night without any ghosts in the walls, and if the bass shakes the earth underground; we'll start a new revolution NOW.
I rolled over in bed, hitting the snooze button on my alarm- iPhone- about twenty times before it stopped blasting music. After kicking my lavender comforter off of my body, I trudged into the bathroom. My hair was a frizz-ball. I took it out of the messy bun and combed my fingers through it. Hot water came spewing out of the faucet, I grabbed my washcloth and acne medicine from the counter.
I finished the rest of my morning routine within twenty minutes.
I was moving pretty swiftly for a Monday morning. I went into my closet and took a hanger with a spaghetti strap, dark purple shirt on it; also I grabbed a park of black skinny jeans from the shelf. I slipped on my floral printed Vans and then was out the door.
It's only seven forty-five and it's already almost eighty degrees outside. I quickly pulled out my phone, and then dialed Grace's number. I started making patterns in the dirt with my show while I patiently waited for her to pick up. She never did.
She's probably with Carter. I must admit, if they did get together they would be the cutest couple ever.
Considering the fact that no one's answering their phones, I guess I'm going to have to walk. I'll take the short cut and make it easier on myself.
After looking both ways, I ran across the street and into the path that goes through the woods. I'm probably going to ruin my shoes after this. I have fifteen minutes until the homeroom bell rings. The only way I'm going to get there with time to spare, so I can make a trip to my locker, is if I speed walk the whole way. If Grace would've just answered her phone, I wouldn't be doing this right now.
Shane's POV
"Are you sure this is going to work?" I questioned. My knees were weak and my mouth was dry. All signs that say I'm nervous.
"I'm positive that it's going to work. She'll be yours again in no time," Grace assured me. I followed her to Kaelyn's locker, and watched as she started to put in the combination. My eyes wandered up and down the hallway, it was mostly empty; there were a few kids every now and then, but other than that Grace and I were the only ones there. I made sure we got here super early this morning.
Click.
The locker door swung open, revealing nothing but text books. I chuckled to myself. "Oh Kaelyn. Always the try hard, huh?"
"Yep. Five AP classes and she plays varsity volleyball. She can't do more than that, can she?" Grace smiled. "Are you ready?"
I nodded. I glanced down at the single white rose in my hand and dug my hand into my back pocket and pulled out a piece of paper.
In big capital red letters the word 'PROM?' was written on the sticky note. Grace shook her head.
"Really? That's it? A white rose and a sticky note?"
"Um... yeah? I'm not exactly that romantic. Is it not good enough?" My voice started to get shaky.
"No, no, It's fine. I'm sure she'll love it." Grace lied. Kaelyn's going to hate this. Why am I even doing this? She's not going to say yes. She hates my guts.
The thoughts left my mind after I placed the rose on her locker's shelf. The note was sitting on top of the rose's stem. I smiled to myself and shut the locker.
"Thanks for helping me," I told Grace she nodded and glanced at her phone.
"Anytime," she said. "She'll say yes, don't worry. I have to go. Kaelyn should be here by eight fiftteen. I would wait over there," she pointed to the tall support column that was in the middle of the hallway, "preferably behind it. Then when she opens her locker and looks around for who put it there, I would start walking towards her. Then work your magic and sweep her off of her feet."
"I can do that. Okay. Thank you so much,"
"You already said that, but you're welcome. Now I really have to go before Carter throws a fit." Grace waved and then she turned around and walked away. Realising the time, 8:10, I quickly backed away from her locker and stood behind the column.
Several minutes passed by and Kaelyn was nowhere in sight. The first period bell rang, and all the lingering students in the hallway disappeared. The hallway echoed with silence. I leaned up against the wall, hoping that Kaelyn would show up soon.
Ten minutes passed and Kaelyn still wasn't here. The only other person in the hallway was Tyler Masterson. I glanced up at him, he had a smirk glued to his face, as he walked towards me. Great. The only person in this school who's not the least bit scared of me. Even though he should be. I've beat him up multiple times because of the way she speaks about Kaelyn.
"Hey Collins, who are you waiting for? Oh, ha, you're waiting for Kaelyn right?" Tyler smirked. I rolled my eyes and clenched my fists. "Remember when I almost had her in detention. Man, if she wouldn't of kicked me in the gut I so would've made out with her. Maybe she'll give me a second chance, considering the fact that she sure as hell won't give you a second one,"
"Shut up. Do you honestly want to go down this road again?" I warned.
"If it gets me what I want, then yeah. Face it, Shane, it's been five months. She obviously doesn't want you back and she never will," Tyler laughed.
I shook my head. I suddenly lost it. My fist collided with Tyler's face, which sent him tumbling backwards. I tackled him to the ground and started punching him repeatedly. I couldn't control myself. There were loud footsteps behind me and then I felt arms wrapping around my body, restraining me. The next thing I saw made me want to shoot myself.
Kaelyn was at Tyler's side, helping him stand upright. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and leaned into her side. Whoever was restraining me tightened their grip. Kaelyn glared at me and turned her back to me.
"Let's get you to the nurse's office." She told Tyler. Tyler looked at me, that devious smirk still plastered to his face. He knew this would happen. He caused a fight with me on purpose, just so he could get what he wanted. I watched in horror as Kaelyn walked away with Tyler.
"C'mon Mr. Collins. Off to the Principal's office." I recognized the voice, it belongs to the security officer, Mr. Parker. I sighed and tried to cooperate as he dragged me down the hallway.
