Chapter 27: Chapter 27
Kaelyn's POV
I sat down at the 'bad boy's' lunch table. I threw down my tray of disgusting cafeteria food and opened up my can of Arizona tea. I was the only one at the lunch table and to be honest, I feel lonely. The other boys are in line and Sierra and Grace sit on the other side of the cafeteria.
I sighed and stood up, nearly knocking over my Arizona in the process. I quickly glanced around, to see if anyone saw. Luckily, no one did. I picked up my gray canvas backpack and headed towards the bathroom. The bathroom, surprisingly, wasn't nasty and dirty. It was actually cleaned up for once.
The reflection I saw in the mirror needs a lot of work. My curls were flattening and my makeup was uneven. Normally, I wouldn't care how messed up my makeup got or how flat my hair was, but for some reason I care today. I rummaged through my cosmetics bag until I found my powder brush. I evened out my foundation and then put away my makeup. There was really nothing I could do about my hair, so I just pinned back my bangs and forgot about it.
I smoothed out my Of Mice and Men tee-shirt and then retied my Vans. I picked up my backpack and left the restroom. My feet were dragging me back to the cafeteria. It was quieter than usual. Everyone was whispering to each-other – except for Shane, Gage, Vincent, and Kyle. They were the loudest out of all the students.
I walked to their table and sat in between Shane and Kyle. Shane smiled instantly when he saw me. He planted a kiss on my cheek and then rested a hand on my knee.
"Whoa... Shane, do you see that?" Gage exclaimed. Gage pointed to the center of the cafeteria – to a girl who looked confused. The girl had long blonde hair, a nice figure that made me jealous, and she had flawless skin.
I watched Shane's eyes widen.
"She's back?" Shane looked down. He started balling his free hand into a fist.
"Who's back?" I questioned. Shane squeezed my leg and took a deep breath.
"Ali," He said through gritted teeth. I bit my lip and watched noiselessly as she took a seat, alone, at an empty table.
"Did you know she was coming back?" Kyle questioned. Shane shook his head.
"I had no idea..." his voice trailed off. I rested a hand on his shoulder. I could tell that just by seeing her it was bringing back painful memories for Shane.
I watched as Ryder came up to the table she was sitting at. Ali smiled and hugged him. He hugged her back. Soon there was a crowd of students around both of them. I glanced at Gage, he needs to start some type of stupid conversation. Gage nodded at me.
"So, how awesome was Saturday night?" Gage busted out laughing. I shook my head.
"Saturday night was fun, your friend Grace is hot," Vincent blurted out.
"Yeah, try anything with her and she'll slap you," I warned, after eyeing him suspiciously. Vincent laughed and took a huge bite of his pizza.
"Are you sure about that? She seemed pretty interested on the ride home from the bridge," Vincent smirked.
"I don't want details," I shook my head and laughed. Our attempt at getting Shane's mind off of Ali wasn't working. I really wish I knew the truth about what happened between the three of them. I have two different stories from Shane and I have a story from Ryder, I don't know which one to believe.
"Hey um... Shane? Do you want to take a walk with me?" I asked him. He looked at his friends before nodding and standing up. I grabbed his hand and led him outside to, ironically, the bench we sat at the first day we talked. The day he let me wear his 'baby' - his leather jacket.
"I'm sorry. I just kind of lost it when I saw her," He sighed. He sat down on the bench. I stood in front of him for a few moments, before sitting down next to him. He wrapped his arms around me and I rested my head on his shoulder.
"Don't apologize. I know how you feel," I admitted.
"I thought she was gone forever. Why is she back?" He tightened his grip on me.
"I don't know. Just ignore her. I had to do that with Ryder and it worked... somewhat," I mumbled the last part. Shane nodded and kissed my forehead.
"We should get going. We still have two more periods after lunch." Shane stood up, pulling me up with him. We started walking back into the building, and before we departed Shane grabbed my arms.
"Oh and Kaelyn, I'm taking you out tonight. Be ready by six," he informed me. I smiled and hugged him.
"I can't wait," I whispered. I pecked his lips and then walked towards my history class. I wasn't really paying attention to where I was walking... the result of that was smacking into someone. My books fell on the tiled floor with a loud 'thump'. I dropped down so I could pick up the books. The person I ran into towered over me, not bothering to help me. I knew it was a girl because she was wearing way too much perfume and ridiculously tall high heels. I stood back up and came face to face with the girl. It was Ali.
"Sorry," I said. She rolled her eyes.
"Why don't you watch where you're going next time," she pushed past me. "Oh and by the way, I saw you with Shane earlier. Why don't you stay away from him, he's trouble. He's also going to be mine again, sometime," she told me. My jaw dropped. She laughed, an annoying high pitched one, and continued walking down the hallway.
I stood still, too shocked to move. I shook everything off and walked to class. Could she be any ruder? I'm not staying away from Shane, I didn't mean to run into her, and he's not trouble.
When I got to class I took a seat in the back next to Grace, she was busily looking over her notes. I'm guessing we're having a test today. That's great, I know nothing. I'll just have to guess on half the questions and we'll see where it goes from there.
"Hey," I nudged Grace's elbow. She slightly jumped and then relaxed when she realized that it was me. "So... what went on between you and Vincent Saturday night," I winked. Grace's face turned bright red.
"N-nothing," she stuttered.
"He said you were hot," I laughed. Grace crinkled her nose.
"That's not exactly heart-warming," she laughed. Then, her expression changed to a more serious one. "Did you hear about what happened to Carter?"
"No... what happened?" I asked.
"I heard that Ryder and he got into a fight this morning. Carter's in the hospital because he has a concussion," she informed me. My eyes widened and I shook my head.
"No way... oh wow... do you know what the fight was about?"
"No one really knows. I'm going to call him after school and see if he's ok. I'll tell you everything that he tells me," she said. I nodded my head. Before we could continue our conversation, our lazy history teacher strolled in. He took a seat at his desk and told us all to get ready for our exam. I took a pencil out of my backpack. I hope this is going to be easy.
