Chapter 26: Chapter 26

I pushed through the crowd of students, trying to get to my locker. I was not in the mood to talk to people today. Shane texted me at least twenty times last night, he wants me to call him. He's not getting a call from me.

My locker was about twenty feet away from me, I practically sprinted to it. I was about five feet away when someone stepped in front of me. I ran into them and then fell backwards, landing on my butt. Some of the students around me were laughing, I ignored them. I stared at the black vans in front of me. I can already smell his cologne. He offered me a hand, but I smacked it away.

"Kaelyn, at least let me help you up," Shane's voice would've normally comforted me – but not this time. My feet pushed me up off the floor and I walked past Shane, purposely bumping into his shoulder in the process. I tried walking fast to my locker, but Shane was right behind me.

I opened my locker and threw the books I don't need onto the shelf.

"Kaelyn, just talk to me. Why are you acting like this? What did I do? I know I'm always leaving and I'm sorry! I won't go out and get wasted anymore, I'll take you out to the movies– I'm sorry! Just talk to me, please..." He begged. I shook my head and continued filling my backpack with books. "Kaelyn... you have to tell me what I did."

I finally lost it.

"You know what you did Shane? I called you last night after our fight, and another girl answered your phone. Another girl. That's what you did," I bit the inside of my cheek, so I could keep from saying anything else. My locker door made an extremely loud noise after I slammed it shut.

"Let me explain-"

"I don't want an explanation," I said stubbornly, "now, if you'll excuse me, I'm late for science."

"Well, you're not being excused. I have science too. I'm not leaving you alone until you let me explain!" I could tell that he was getting frustrated with me. I tried to walk in front of him, but he grabbed my wrist and pulled me back. "Please," he breathed.

"Two minutes," I said. He semi-smiled and pulled me into the nearest janitors' closet. I put my backpack down and leaned against the wall. Shane stood leaning against the opposite wall, with his hands shoved in his front pockets. His blue eyes were piercing mine.

"I wasn't out with just any random girl," he started.

"Because that's a great way to start," I mumbled. I crossed my arms over my chest and stared at the floor. Shane walked towards me and put his hands on my arms. He pressed his forehead to mine.

"Kaelyn, look at me," he demanded. I shook my head, my eyes were glued to the messy tile floor. "Look at me," he put his index finger on my chin and tilted my head up, so I could look him in the eyes.

"Your minutes are almost up," I snapped. Shane sighed and shook his head.

"You know I would never hurt you, right?" I remained silent. He sighed and continued talking. "Kaelyn, I was out with my cousin last night." My eyes widened to the size of golf balls. "I didn't mean to make you mad... My cousin called me yesterday morning and asked if the two of us could meet up. I told her 'yes' because she's not going to be in town for a really long time and I missed her. I guess she's the one who answered my phone... I must've been in the bathroom or something."

I was speechless. I'm the biggest idiot on the planet. I'm the biggest bitch on the planet. I can't believe that I thought he was cheating.

"I-I'm sorry..." I mumbled. I looked down at the floor. Shane kissed my nose.

"It's not your fault. I should've told you who I was going out to meet. I didn't mean to give you a false impression. Kaelyn, I love you, and only you," he whispered to me.

"I love you too," I whispered. Shane wrapped his arms around my shoulders and hugged me tightly. I returned the gesture. "You don't even know how sorry I am, I was so rude, I jumped to conclusions, and... and-" Shane cut me off.

"Stop apologizing. You're fine, everything's okay." He assured me. I pressed my lips to his. I missed his kisses- even though it's only been one day.

"We um... we better get to class," I said. I picked my backpack up and opened up the janitors' closet's door. Shane wrapped his arm around my shoulder and escorted me to class.

Carter's POV

"Why can't we just leave the two of them alone?" I questioned. Ryder laughed and slammed the car door shut. I followed him into the school.

"Because, Kaelyn is mine – not Shane's. I'm not stopping until the two of them are split apart." Ryder said. I shook my head. What did I get myself into? What am I doing to Kaelyn? I'm ruining her happiness. I'm such a bad friend.

"So, that means you'll lie to her... just to get her to break it off with Shane?" I asked. Ryder nodded. I shook my head. I don't want any part of this anymore. "Well, you can lie to her all by yourself because I don't want to help you anymore. Kaelyn is truly happy with Shane and I'm not letting you ruin that." I said. Ryder stopped walking and he turned around to face me.

"Excuse me?" He was inches away from my face.

"You heard me, Coleman, I want no part of your little game anymore. I'm out." I raised my hands up in surrender.

"No. You're not getting out of this game. You're already involved." Ryder hit me in the stomach. I stumbled backwards.

"I'm out. You can go around hurting people yourself," I repeated. Ryder hit me again, but this time he used more force. I hit him back. This started a full on fight.

I hit him, he hit me, and this pattern went on for about ten minutes. A crowd of students encircled us. They chanted, 'fight!' over and over. Ryder looked me in the eye, he had a devilish smirk on his face. His fist collided with my face.

Within fifteen seconds, everything went black.
