Chapter 28: Chapter 28
Ringggggg.
The bell finally rang, signally the end of this painful Monday. I shoved my textbooks into my backpack and shoved my way through the crowd at the door. Shane was waiting for me at my locker. He hasn't seen me yet. I crept up behind him... slowly and silently. I spread my arms apart and jumped on his back, wrapping my legs around his torso in the process.
Shane stumbled forward a little bit, but then held onto my thighs so I wouldn't slip off.
"Onward, horse!" I called. Shane laughed and he carried me out of the school. Oh the things I'm doing to his reputation. I ignored all the whispers, murmurs, and pointing as we exited the school. It's a wonder how Shane could jog with me on his back, I'm not exactly that light.
I jumped off of Shane's back when we arrived at his car. He removed my backpack from my shoulders and threw it in the back of his car.
"Thank you, my prince," I giggled as I kissed his cheek. He smiled and wrapped his arms around my waist.
"Anytime, beautiful," he chuckled before pressing his lips to mine. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders. Time seemed frozen; everything and everyone was gone. Our little public make-out session was cut short by someone yelling my name.
"KAE-LYN!" Grace panted. She was running across the parking lot towards Shane and I. Shane just shook his head and laughed. I bit my lip and turned to him.
"I'll just be a minute," I told him. He leaned back against his car and watched me run towards Grace. Grace stopped running and stood in front of me, trying to regain her breath. "I was in the middle of something!" I whined. Grace rolled her eyes.
"I have something to show you," she pulled her phone out of her jacket's pocket. "It's about Carter," she opened up her messages.
Carter: Hey... can you, Kaelyn, and Sierra come meet me at the hospital? I have some apologizing to do... mostly to Kaelyn.
"How do I reply to this? You have to come with us to the hospital," she insisted. I shook my head and looked back at Shane; he was starting up his car.
"I... I can't. I have a date with Shane tonight... I'll go see Carter tomorrow... I'm sorry," I told Grace. Grace looked kind of shocked, but she nodded.
"I understand. Now, go have fun with your boy– but not too much fun," she winked at me before running away. While I jogged back to Shane's car, it was extremely hard not to bust out laughing. Shane took one look at me and he just shook his head and drove off, towards my house. I pulled my knees up to my chest, my Vans were on his leather seats, but he doesn't care. That's one thing I'm grateful for.
"Pierce the Veil, Bring Me the Horizon, or Of Mice and Men?" I questioned as I looked through his CD box. Shane shrugged. He turned left at the stop light.
"Fine," I mumbled. I pulled out the Bring Me the Horizon CD and placed it in the slot.
Can you hear the silence?
Can you see the dark?
Can you fix the broken?
Can you feel, can you feel my heart?
I sang along to the song, off key, as we turned into my driveway. Michael's car was parked inside the garage. I sighed and unbuckled my seatbelt. Shane cut the engine of his car off.
"What should I wear tonight? Where are we going?" I questioned. Shane smirked and reached over so he could give me a good-bye kiss. I smiled into the kiss, I love his kisses.
He pulled away and took a deep breath before talking. "Wear something casual, not too fancy," he brushed a strand of hair out of my face. "I'm not telling you where we are going," he triumphantly said.
I whined. "Please."
"Nope," he grinned. I rolled my eyes and opened up the car door.
"See you at five-thirty,"
"I thought it was six,"
"I changed my mind. I'll see you in an hour babe," I groaned. That means I only have a hour to get changed and shower– because that's going to work out so well for me.
Shane backed out of my driveway and then sped off down the street. I unlocked my front door and found Michael sound asleep on the couch. I tip-toed up the stairs to my room; dodging all of the floorboards that creak was a struggle. The first thing I did when I got up to my room was throw my backpack on the floor and then run to the bathroom. I tied my hair up in a bun and turned the shower on. I waited about thirty seconds for the water to heat up, and then jumped in.
One trial shade of eye shadow, thirty mines of messing with my hair, and five different outfits later, I was finally ready. My silky brown hair was in a side braid, with a little black bow hair-tie holding it together. I was wearing dark wash skinny jeans and a hoodie over top of my tee-shirt. It took three tries to get my makeup perfect: light gold eye shadow, concealer, black volumizing mascara, and a little smudge of eyeliner.
5:25 is what my alarm clock read. Shane is going to be here any minute now. I slipped on my Sperrys and descended down the stairs. Michael was standing at the foot of the stairs, arms crossed over his chest.
"And where do you think you're going?" he questioned.
"Out," I replied.
"With who?"
"Why are you interrogating me?" I glared at Michael. He just rolled his eyes.
"Because I'm your older brother, it's my job," he said firmly.
"Okay. Well, I'm seventeen, I'm going out on a date with my boyfriend, is that okay with you, Detective Michael?" I pulled my vibrating phone out of my pocket and saw that Shane was calling me. I was about to answer him when Michael stopped me.
"Don't even answer, he's outside," Michael said as he looked out the window. "Go out, have fun, but if you get drunk or stoned I'll kill you. I let you off easy this weekend," he told me. I stared at him with a confused expression on my face.
"What do you mean?" I questioned.
"Please, Kaelyn, when I came back home from Grandma's yesterday the house smelled like beer and boys." Michael said, he didn't sound mad, he just sounded annoyed.
"How do you know what boys smell like?"
"Sweat and cigarettes," Michael answered.
"Whatever," I rolled my eyes, biting my cheek to keep from laughing. "I have to go."
"Be back before 11:00," Michael yelled at me before I walked out the door. Shane was waiting for me next to the passenger's side of his car. My face instantly brightened when I saw him. He opened up his arms and I did the same. We embraced each other for about a minute, and then we started talking.
"Are you excited?" he asked me. We were now arm's length apart.
"Where are you taking me?" I asked, for the thousandth time.
"I've already told you, it's a surprise," he said. I groaned. I closed the gap between our lips, running my tongue along his bottom lip, causing him to moan a little. I pulled away, smiling to myself. "Nice try, but I'm still not telling you."
"Jerk."
"You know you love me," Shane smiled. He opened up the car door for me. I sat down and then he shut the door for me. Shane walked around to his side of the car and within forty-five seconds we were on our way to our destination.
"I really should've blindfolded you," Shane chuckled to himself. I shook my head. We listened to the rest of his Bring Me the Horizon 'Sempiternal' CD for the whole car ride, which lasted thirty-five minutes.
"Are we there yet?" I asked, like an annoying five year old. Shane didn't answer me.
The car started to slow to a stop, and when it did, all I could see was trees. Shane really loves the woods, doesn't he?
"We're here."
"Where is here?" I questioned. Shane got out of the car, I copied him. He grabbed my hand and we trudged along through the woods. We had to have walked at least a half a mile, my legs felt like jelly.
After walking for another five minutes, Shane stopped. The sight before me was breathtaking. There was a large blue blanket spread out on the crusty leaves, a picnic basket, candles and a beautiful view of the mountains and sky before us.
"Do you like it?" Shane asked. He looked down and started playing with my fingers. I vigorously nodded. The corners of Shane's mouth perked up as he guided me towards the blanket. We sat down across from each other. He started emptying out the basket, handing me a can of Dr. Pepper, my favourite.
Over the span of around three and a half hours, we ate, talked, and kissed. The sun had set an hour ago and now we were staring at the stars. I was sitting in between Shane's legs, his arms were wrapped tightly around my shoulders.
"It's beautiful," I said. Shane started drawing shapes on my arm, causing goose bumps to appear. "This was a perfect first date," I said. Shane pressed his lips to my jawline.
"I'm glad you enjoyed it," he whispered in my ear. Shane's lips were trailing up and down my neck.
I turned around, staring at Shane for a second, before leaning over and hungrily crashing my lips onto his. He smiled and started playing with the hem of my shirt. I laughed and pulled away.
"You tease," he playfully hit my arm.
"You know you love me," I mimicked what he said earlier. I thought I saw him grin. It was too dark outside to see anybody distinctly, all you could see was shapes. The wind was rustling the leaves; the air getting chillier by the minute. "What time is it?"
"Just after nine, why?" Shane replied, after he checked his phone.
"I was just curious. Now, let's get back to what we started," I smirked. I kissed Shane, starting our make out session.
Ryder's POV
"I swear to god, Ryder, you jackass! What do you want with me?" Emily screamed out in frustration. I rolled my eyes and stopped walking in a circle around her. We're in the janitor's closet, I dragged her in here after the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch.
"Calm down, it's very simple. You're going to break Kaelyn and Shane up," I instructed. She shook her head and stared at me like I was an idiot.
"I don't even like Shane anymore! Why would I want to break him and his girlfriend up? I'm the one who cheated on him, with you might I add, and I'm almost sure that he doesn't want to ever talk to me again." Emily argued. I rolled my eyes.
"You're going to do this for me," I ordered.
"No I'm not,"
"Yes you are. You don't have a choice. There's this thing called blackmailing someone, and that's what's going to happen to you, if you don't willingly do this," I shrugged. Emily glared at me.
"What's in it for me?"
"If you're able to break them up, I'll give you five hundred dollars, and you can do whatever you want with me," I winked. Emily cringed and took a step back.
"Fine. I'll do it. But, only for the money," she said. I smiled widely.
"Thanks babe,"
"Call me that again and you'll regret the last part of that deal," she said. Emily unlocked the door to the janitor's closet and left the room.
This plan is running perfectly so far.
