Chapter 14: Chapter 14
“I had a lot of fun this afternoon,” I looked over at Shane. He had this goofy smile on his face as he parked his car in my driveway. I unbuckled my seat belt and looked at him, his hair was messed up from having the wind blow it everywhere and he had left his leather jacket in the back seat, giving me a nice view of his toned arms.
“We should do this more often,” He winked. I blushed and looked away as fast as I could so he wouldn’t see. It was such a mistake to ignore him for those two weeks. A huge mistake. He’s really a nice guy, once you get over the fact that he beats people up a lot, is a complete rebel, and he gets drunk a lot… but underneath that layer of bad boy, he’s as soft as a teddy bear. “Hey um… Kaelyn…” Shane’s voice interrupted my thoughts. He pointed to the figure walking towards us. Great. Look who decided to show up.
Michael came up next to Shane’s car and started tapping on the window. I rolled my eyes and pressed the button to open it.
“What do you want Michael?” I said bitterly. Michael was staring daggers at Shane. Why does he have to be so overprotective? Oh yeah, it’s because he’s your brother and guardian.
“Oh nothing, I was just wondering if you could help me prepare dinner,” He fake smiled. Wow. He is such a bad liar. I rolled my eyes and looked over at Shane. He was failing to hide his laughter.
“I’ll be there in a minute,” I mumbled my face red from embarrassment.
“No now. You should’ve been home hours ago. It’s six o’clock! And on top of that, I get a call saying that you weren’t in half of your classes today? I know I told you that you could ditch but that was only for when you were already late in the morning; not in the middle of a school day. Are you out of your mind? That is so unlike you!” I winced as he yelled the last part. I couldn’t help but to be embarrassed in front of Shane.
“Chill out please-“ I started.
“Excuse me, sir, it was my fault that she ditched. I kept pushing her and pushing her to. I’m fully the one to blame for her absence,” Shane explained. My mouth hung open, I can’t believe that he just covered for me. The corners of his mouth didn’t even twitch up when he lied; that takes skill.
“Well then, I suggest that it doesn’t happen again,” Michael huffed.
“Yes sir,” Shane nodded. I looked at both boys, Shane was so calm, but Michael on the other hand looked as if he was about to explode.
“Go inside Kaelyn,” Michael pointed towards the door. I groaned and picked up my backpack and skateboard. Why is he treating me like a five year old? This is the most embarrassing thing he’s ever done to me.
“Alright alright, just give me a few seconds,” I said. Michael stood there, debating whether or not to leave. After giving him the death glare, he slowly backed away up towards the house. I watched him open the door and he walked into the house. I let out the breath I was holding in and turned back to Shane. “I’m so, so, so, so, so sorry. He’s just extremely overprotective and…” I trailed off.
“It’s alright, I understand. If I was him I would’ve acted the same way. You have to give him so credit though, at least he cares. It’s better to have him being over protective than him not giving a shit at all.” Shane said. I nodded my head, he was right.
“Thanks for covering for me,”
“No problem,” He smiled. I bit my lip and looked at him. I leaned in, he did too. He held my face in between his hands and pressed his lips to mine. I kissed back, making it rougher. Shane moaned. Did I make him do that? Point one for Green, Collins is still at zero. He licked my bottom lip, and I denied him entrance; just to be a tease.
There was a rapid tapping sound. I broke apart from Shane and looked out the windshield. There was Michael inside the house tapping repeatedly on the window. I rolled my eyes and glanced at Shane once more.
He was laughing yet again.
“So, I’ll see you tomorrow?” I asked. Shane nodded.
“Tomorrow,” I smiled widely. I leant over and kissed his cheek. “I suggest you leave before your brother comes out and murders the two of us,”
“Right,” I grabbed my belongings and opened the car door. When I got up to the front door, Shane was already backing out of my driveway. I immediately stopped smiling when I saw Michael. He was in the kitchen cooking something.
“Kaelyn Mary Green, I cannot believe you.”
“Before you start saying shit, I just want you to know how much you embarrassed me. For godsake, you were treating me like a freaking five year old!” I walked away from Michael and headed up the stairs to my room. “And don’t bother trying to talk to me, I’m not going to reply!” I yelled at him before I shut and locked my door. Threw my skateboard and bag down, falling onto my bed in the process. I kicked off my shoes and then stared at the ceiling.
Shane kissed me twice, in one day. We ditched school together, hung out in the park, then went to go get ice cream and just had a great time. But, despite my asking, he still wouldn’t tell me why he beat up Carter. That bothered me; a lot.
Carter's POV
I saw Kaelyn, Ryder and then Shane walk out of the cafeteria, one by one. This can’t be good. I excused myself from the table. Grace and Sierra were too deep into their conversation to even notice my absence. I walked across the cafeteria and went to the doors that the three walked out of. I peered through the window and saw that Shane was chasing Kaelyn down the hallway; and to my left I found Ryder lying on the ground with a bloody nose and beaten up lip.
While internally laughing, I opened the door and walked to Ryder’s side. He looked so helpless on the ground, it was quite funny. He deserved this. He should’ve never cheated on Kaelyn.
But Carter, you’re not better, you lied to her about Shane. My conscience told me.
“What do you want?” Ryder spat.
“So, the mighty Shane Collins did this to you? Well, what if I told you that I had an idea that could hurt him so badly that he would completely shut down and never bother anyone again, with his bad boy ways.” I smirked.
“I’m listening.” Ryder sat up, propping himself up on him elbows.
“First off, he stole our girl, so that means we have to steal her back. I know exactly how to do that,”
