Chapter 13: Chapter 13

"Why are you with him?" Ryder said through gritted teeth. His face was inches away from mine. I struggled to get out of his grasp, but he was too strong. His brown eyes were staring into mine. He tightened his grip on my arms that were being held above my head.

Damn, do the teachers not realize what happens in their hallways?

"Are you doing this to me on purpose? Do you even know what you're doing to me?" He spoke, his voice was quiet and calm, the voice that I fell in love with.

"What I'm doing to you? HA. You're the one who cheated on me, practically ripping out my heart in the process." I spat. Ryder held my wrists tighter, but soon he released me. I pulled my wrists up to my chest, rubbing slightly.

"I'm sorry. I was such an idiot. I know that you'll never take me back, but I do love you; a lot." A tear slipped out of his left eye.

"Stop. Just- save it Ryder. I loved you, I really did. You were my everything. But, things change when your boyfriend of six months confesses that he cheated on you with another girl. I suggest you move on, because I already have," I mumbled the last part. Anger flashed through his eyes. I had never seen him this angry. Yet again, he pushed me backwards against the wall, pinning my arms up above my head. I didn't even try to free myself, I knew that it was no use anyways. "What is your obsession with pushing me up against walls? Seriously,"

"You used to love it. Just like you used to love it when I did this," he pressed his lips to my jawline, letting them linger for a second. I squeezed my eyes, I wanted to kick him away, but at the same time I couldn't. All the memories of us flooded my head. I loved him. I used to love him.

"Get off of me, I don't love it when you do that." I started struggling. I guess it was worth a try to get him off of me. He pressed his body closer to mine... so now even if I wanted to kick him, I couldn't because I couldn't move my leg.

"Look, I tried being nice, I tried to but, I still love you and I won't stop until you are mine again," He said. He kissed the corner of my mouth, moving to the left slightly. He pressed his forehead to mine before he did anything else.

"You're not getting me back by doing this," I winced in pain as he tightened his hold on my wrists.

"I know, I just can't resist," He mumbled. His lips were inches away from mine when he was being ripped away from me. Someone threw him on the floor, and started punching him in the face.

"Stay away from her, she obviously doesn't want you anymore," Shane spat. Shane punched Ryder in the face again. To be honest, Shane was scaring me right now. So was Ryder, but in a different way. Shane looked so... angry... he looked like a monster. His eyes were darker than usual and his voice was rough and deep. I started backing away from the scene.

"From the looks of it, she doesn't want you either," Ryder snickered. Shane looked back at my horror-struck face. He got up off of Ryder and started walking towards me. I shook my head at him.

"Wait please! You should be happy! I just stopped him from kissing you!" Shane called after me. I kept walking away. I turned the corner, heading towards my locker. I put in the combination and got out my skateboard.

There were loud footsteps behind me and then someone was leaning up against the locker next to me.

"Where are you going?" Shane's voice filled my ears.

"Away," for the first time in my life, I was going to ditch the rest of the day. I've never done that. I just need some time to think about everything that has happened today. Everything...

"Why?" His curiosity was really starting to bug me.

"Because I need some time to think," I replied. I shut my locker door and started walking to the back exit.

"About what?" He questioned. Why did he care?

"About everything that's happened today," I answered. Shane stopped walking for a second to process what I just said. Once he did he had to jog to catch up to me.

"Is that a bad thing?" Gosh. Enough with the questions already.

"Not necessarily," I smiled.

"That's a relief. I thought that you were having some regrets about um... about what we did this morning." I stopped walking and looked up at him. He was a good five inches taller than me. I'm only 5'6.

"No, no, no... How could anyone have any regrets about that?" I blushed at what I just said.

"I don't know. Like you told me earlier, I'm a great kisser," He laughed. I smiled and walked down the stairs. I was about to open the door to leave when Shane pushed it closed.

"What?" He laughed at me and shook his head.

"I just don't think that a beautiful girl like you should be skating around town alone," Shane's flirty tone was back.

"Oh look, flirty Shane's back!" I faked my enthusiasm.

"What, you don't like my flirty-ness?" He moved his eyebrows around. I rolled my eyes.

"I like sweet and awkward Shane better." He stared at me, awestruck.

"Awkward? I may be sweet sometimes, but I am not awkward," He tried acting tough.

"Ok, tell that to the boy who couldn't find the words to say, 'do you want to wear my jacket?'" He looked down in defeat.

"I was nervous," he mumbled. "I didn't know how to give my baby away!" He stammered.

"It's okay, I get nervous all the time." I smirked. Shane ran a hand through his hair and looked at me.

"So, back to my question. May I join you?" He questioned. I nodded. "After you," He held the door open for me.

"Thank you," I smiled. I put my skateboard down and was about to skate off when I noticed that Shane didn't have one. "Do you have a board?" I questioned.

"Yeah, it's in my car. If you just wait here, I'll be back in a minute." He said. I nodded.

"Wait, will you put this in your car please?" I handed him my backpack and he nodded.

"Just stay here, and don't get caught," He smirked. I rolled my eyes and watched him run away to his car. I leaned up against the brick wall and waited for him to return. The sky was light, Carolina blue and there were clouds scattered around it. My mind reentered the real world when I saw Shane running towards me, mouthing something.

"Hide, the security guard is coming this way," He grabbed my hand and took me to the dumpster. We hid behind it, and after five minutes we peered around it and saw that the security guard wasn't in sight. Shane and I walked out from behind the dumpster and started skating off. But, we found out that we were wrong about the security guard. He was chasing after us, but we were way faster than him.

"Shane Collins get back here! You too young lady!" The security guard screamed. I laughed and continued skating away. Shane was following close behind me. My first day ditching was going great so far.

"What's wrong bad boy? Can't keep up?" I teased. I could hear Shane laughing as we skated down the street.

"Actually I think that I can keep up, possibly go faster," He smirked. Oh... if he was looking for a game, he got one.

"Yeah, try me pretty boy," I said over the sound of the wind. I really should've tied my hair up, it was whipping all around my face.

"I bet that I could beat you to the park over there," He pointed down the road to the children's park. I smirked and started pushing myself so I could go faster and ahead of Shane.

"Hey! No fair! I didn't say go!" Shane yelled after me. But it was too late, I was already three fourths of the way to the park. When I did get to the park I jumped off of my board and did a little victory dance.

I heard Shane coming up behind me, so I turned around... only to be tackled to the ground seconds later.

"I beat you," I stuck my tongue out at him. He laughed and pulled me into his lap. We were sitting in the grass, next to the sidewalk.

"I could've won if you didn't cheat!" He bent his head down so that our noses were touching. My heart started beating faster and my breathing was hitching up. It's amazing how much feelings for someone can grow in one day. I started liking him two weeks ago, but then I started ignoring him and the feelings went away... now they're back and they are so much greater than before.

"I didn't mean to, I'm sorry," I pouted my bottom lip, causing Shane to grin.

"I can't stay mad at you," He straightened up and held me closer to his body. "Not with that perfect pouty face of yours," He grinned. I took the beanie off of his head and placed it on my own.

"Thank you," I mumbled into his chest.

"For what?"

"Everything," I whispered. Shane bent his head down and kissed my forehead.

"Anytime, Kaelyn, anytime."
