Chapter 99: Chapter 99
"What do you think Hades is planning by turning Stephanie and her clique into vampires?" I asked him as I turned back to the hallway.
"To make an army of the undead like Sebastian said and to have them get you since you go to the same school." He replied as he also looked back to where we were going.
"Well, they won't be able to get away with it."
"You got that right, baby doll 'cause I'll never let them or anyone hurt you." He replied just as we reached the Maths class.
Jake lifted his hand and twisted the door handle before pulling it open. The male Maths teacher, Mr. Cyrus turned his head to us when he heard the door open. Jake and I walked in and made our way to our seats after closing the door.
Mr. Cyrus didn't say a word, he only continued teaching since he or any of the teachers couldn't afford to offend Jake. Everyone was afraid of crossing him. As we walked down the column in between the seats, Jane, Shane, Sean, Mike, Alex and Drake watched us with curiosity and concern, well except for Drake.
We stopped at our seats next to Mike and Sean. I sat down next to Sean while Jake sat down next to Mike. Sean glanced at me with concern evident in his eyes as he asked, "Max, where have you been? Are you alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Stephanie and her clique attacked me in the bathroom. Apparently, they are now vampires."
Surprise showed on his face, and Jake glanced at us from next to me. Jane that was in front of me and Shane in front of Jake turned their heads around as surprise also showed on their faces. But they didn't comment. They only turned around and faced the Mr. Cyrus since he would see them talking while class was going on and that could lead to detention.
And even though Alex and Drake were sitting behind Jake and I, I knew that they were surprised at the news as well. Mike also glanced at us before talking to Jake in hushed whispers. I guessed that it was probably about it.
"No way, who turned them?" Sean asked wide eyed.
"Hades. They're now part of his army, and they're after me too." I replied as I stared at Mr. Cyrus write an algebraic equation on the board as he explained it.
"That's crazy, but don't worry, Max. We wouldn't let that happen." Sean comforted me as he gave me a reassuring smile.
I smiled as I looked at him, "Thanks, and I wouldn't let that happen either."
At lunch time, Jake, our friends including Abbey and I walked into the cafeteria to see the other students there with Stephanie and her clique at there table. Guess they healed and came back to school. Everyone turned to us as we made our way to our lunch table. Stephanie stood up from her table and walked towards us.
We all expected her to talk to Jake, but she surprised us by going to Abbey. We all stopped to see what she would do. She smiled at her which I didn't believe was real. "Abbey, please come back to our group and let's be friends again."
Jake glared at her as his hands clenched into fists, "How dare you come up to us after attacking Max?"
She turned to him with an apologetic expression, "I am so sorry, Jake. I didn't mean to attack your girlfriend. Hades forced me to do it and since I am a new vampire, I didn't have much control or choice."
I knew that what she was saying was garbage and she seemed perfectly in control that morning. "That's what you say, Stephanie, but not how it looks like."
She turned to me with a fake smile, "Oh, I'm super sorry, Max. I didn't mean to attack you and I'm still suffering for it. Even though my wrist is healed, I can still feel the pain."
She cradled her previously broken wrist as she moved her gaze to Jake. "You see, that attack wasn't intentional and I want us to be at peace."
Jake glanced at me since it was me that she had attacked even though he still looked angry. I knew that I had to play along and act like we were at peace to learn more about what Hades was planning, so I nodded. "Okay, whatever."
Jake turned back to her with a tight expression, "Okay, but if you dare lay a hand on Max ever again, I would make sure that you don't live another second."
She looked scared for a second before she smiled her fake smile and nodded. "Wouldn't dream of it, Jake."
She then turned back to Abbey, "So, you're coming back or what?"
Abbey looked confused and shocked as she stared at her, "Uh, but I have already told you my reasons for leaving."
"And it doesn't matter, we can manage our friendship like that. Plus Poppy is useless, she can't compare to you." Stephanie protested as she stretched her hand out to touch Abbey's arm. But Abbey moved back as a frown formed on her face.
"It doesn't matter? My feelings don't matter? You treat me like dirt, Stephanie. We're not friends and we never were. Plus, Poppy's not gonna like what you have to say about her."
Stephanie's face turned into a scowl as her eyes flashed red before turning to their original blue. "Fine, Abbey! Do whatever the hell you want. I wouldn't have come over here to bring you back anyway if Hades didn't want you or Poppy was so useless."
I gasped as I asked, "Hades sent you to take her with you? That means he wants to turn her too."
Stephanie looked like she had been caught saying what she shouldn't have. Her eyes flew around the room as she replied, "Yeah, he wants her and used his mind control on me to get her."
"You better leave here, Stephanie or you're not gonna like what's going to happen next." Jake threatened as he glared at her again.
She gulped in fear and she beamed at him again, "Of course, Jake. Let's be at peace."
She turned around and practically ran back to their table. She saw what I could do to the three of them, she knew that he could do even worse.
"Well, that was too much tension." Mike exclaimed as we continued walking to our table, and students in the cafeteria stared and whispered.
"Tell me about it." Sean muttered in reply.
We all sat down on our table except Drake. He stayed standing and was staring at Jake and I with a blank expression. I felt confused that he was still standing and was sure that it showed on my face. "What's wrong, Drake?"
His gaze centered on me as Jake and the others watched him for his answer. "I have something to say to you all, especially you, Alpha and Luna."
"Okay, what is it?" Jake asked as we waited for Drake to answer in anticipation.
He glanced at Jane then Shane and hurt passed through his eyes along with anger. He clenched his jaw and glanced at each of our faces before he returned his gaze to Jake and I. "I'm leaving the pack and joining Kane's pack."
"What?!" I exclaimed as Jake exclaimed, "Why?!"
Abbey gasped dramatically while Mike said, "No, man. You can't."
"Is this because of me?" Jane asked as she stood up from her seat next to Shane on the table.
Drake shook his head then nodded, "I hate to say it, but yes, Jane, it's 'cause of you and Shane."
He turned to Jake, "And you asked why, well, I can't stand seeing these two together after all the memories I have together with her. That's why I haven't been coming to school recently. It hurts deeply to see my friend and who I thought that I would marry together."
Shane also stood up from his seat, "Drake, man, I am so sorry about all this. I had no idea that things were going to turn out this way. But I would never try to steal your girl, you know that. I have no choice, but to be with her. I can't resist the mate bond."
Jake stood up from his seat as he glanced at Shane then at Drake. "I am sorry that things turned out this way, but you should understand that this isn't their choice. It was fate, and how can you join Kane's gang, our enemy?"
Drake looked more and more angry as the seconds went by. "Yeah, I'm joining the enemy's gang 'cause you let this happen, Jake. You let him steal my girl away and backed him up. You are all my enemies now."
I stood up as I raised both hand in a calming gesture, "Whoa! Drake, calm down. We're not your enemies, but your friends, and you know that you also have your mate as well as Jane. Are you willing to leave her and be with Jane?"
Drake stared at me for a while before he shook his head, "It doesn't matter, she was mine first, and my wolf knows it too."
Jane sighed, "Drake, your wolf also knows that I'm not your mate, okay? You have been friends with all of us for such a long time. How can you suddenly become our enemy?"
He moved his gaze to her and he looked more hurt, "It's not my choice either, Jane. You made me do this, you made me become all of your enemy!"
"Drake, calm down please. You don't know what you're saying." Mike said with a concerned expression, trying to get him to stop acting like someone else.
"Yeah, man. Just chill and think things through." Alex said with a fearful expression as if afraid that a fight was going to start.
"Think things through?! I have been thinking things through for more than a month and I can't stand it anymore. I'm leaving and destroying you all that let it happen!" Drake yelled as his eyes flickered from dark to brown and back again. That showed that his wolf was trying get in control.
It made me frown and confused that Drake and his wolf were acting this way. Maybe he was since or something because the Drake that I knew would never act this way. Sean stood up from his seat as he shook his head, "Don't go, Drake. We're sorry that all these happened."
"You are not acting like yourself, Drake. Let us take you to Tanner to see what's wrong." Jake said with a concerned look as if hearing my thoughts.
"No! I am perfectly well and don't need your apologies! All I need is to get away from you and take my revenge!" Drake yelled, looking the most angry that I have ever seen me. He turned around and walked away to Kane's table before any of us got another word out of our mouths.
We watched as he walked away, and Jane was about to run to him. But Shane graned her arm and shook his head. "Let him be. He might do something he'll regret if you pursue him in such an angry state."
She sighed heavily, "Okay."
"It's gonna be alright, Jane." I said to comfort her.
"Yeah, he'll be back to his old self soon and back here." Jake added as he gave her a small smile.
"Thanks, guys, but I'm also sorry because I caused him to become our enemy to hate us all."
"No, you didn't. You did nothing wrong by being with your mate and Shane did nothing wrong as well." I said to comfort her as I gave her a small smile.
"Thanks for being such a great person." She said as she looked between Jake and I, "Both of you."
"Awe, what about me? I'm hurt." Sean said as he held one hand over his chest in a playful manner to lighten the mood.
