Chapter 67: Chapter 67

Jake chuckled as he glanced at me before looking back to where we were going, "Yeah, I can, but some teachers like Mr. Ben are just way too strict."

I let out a laugh as we continued down the hallway. But before we could walk any further, a blur ran towards us and stopped in front of us in the middle of the school hallway. That made us both stop and stare at it in confusion. As the blur cleared, we saw that it was the vampire dude that attacked us when we were on our way to the River of True Mates.

His eyes were still red, but his brown hair was combed back neatly and he had a grin on his lips that revealed his short, vampire fangs. He looked between Jake and I as he said, calmly, "Maxine Roberts and her mate, Jake Simpsons. It is a pleasure to meet you two again."

Jake and I looked confused, and I raised a brow as I said in disbelief, "A pleasure to meet us? Last time I checked, you were trying to kill us."

Jake only watched him carefully as I felt him tense beside me and his hand that was holding mine go rigid. The vampire threw his head back and let out a loud laugh as if what I said was the funniest thing that he has ever heard. He shook his head as he stared at me with that grin on his face. "Well, I have realized that killing you wouldn't do me as much good as letting you live."

Jake scoffed as he said, "So if you wanna let us live then why are you here?"

He looked at Jake then looked between the two of us, looking amused as he answered, "Because, I want you both on my side, that is the vampire's side and not the werewolves."

Jake looked at him in disbelief as I let out a sarcastic laugh, "What?! How can you expect us, werewolves to be not on the same side as other werewolves, but on your side?"

He grin broadened as he clapped his hands once, "Easy. You have to be on my side because other werewolves will be after you, Max; either to kill you or to mate with you." He glanced at Jake, "And you, Jake; they'll be after you to use you to get to Max or kill you since you are one of the most powerful Alphas now."

Jake raised both brows in question as he asked, "So does being on your side guarantee that none of that will happen?"

"I'm an aged vampire, surely I can find a way to get them off your backs." He said, smoothly with a mischievous glint in his eyes as he dropped his hands to his sides.

He seemed too suspicious for my liking, what was he hiding? "And what's in it for you?"

He looked surprised that I asked that, but he quickly covered it with a smile. "The power of the one with the gift being on my side. Both you and Jake's powers will also give me powers just by your presence in my coven."

It seemed as though he was not telling us the whole truth. Jake also seemed to think the same as he eyed him suspiciously and cautiously. I glanced at him and captured his gaze, trying to ask him what he thought with my eyes. He nodded at me before we both looked back at the vampire, and he said, "We'll think about it and get back to you."

The vampire grinned and nodded, "Very well. Call my name for whenever you need to speak with me."

"And what's your name?" Jake asked just as I was about to.

"Sebastian." He whispered, and in a second, he was a blur running past us and out the school double doors.

"That was cryptic." Jake commented in a whisper as we both watched the school's doors where Sebastian as a second ago.

"I know." I whispered back, and he glanced at me then tugged at my hand. My gaze went to him and his brows furrowed as he saw the worried look on my face.

"Hey, don't be worried. Everything will work out well no matter the decision we make." Jake said in a comforting tone as he looked into my eyes and lifted his hand to brush a few strands of my hair to behind my ear.

I let a small smile touch my lips as I felt my heart race at his caring attitude towards me. Yes, that was right. The school's bad boy is caring and only towards me. That thought made me smile broader, and I replied, "Okay."

His lips lifted up into a smile as he saw my smile, and he added, "Now, let's get to class before we get any later."

I let out a small laugh at the thought of how late we were as he pulled me down the hallway in a walk to class.

As soon as the school's bell for us to go home rang, everyone rushed to the door of the classroom and walked to the hallway then out of the school. Jake, Jane, Sean and I had the same class, so we were walking in the hallway and towards the school's double doors when Mike, Alex, Shane and Drake joined us.

We all walked together with Jake beside me, holding my hand and Sean beside him then Jane and Shane. Beside me was Alex, Mike and Drake. We made our way out of the school's double doors together and every student in the school had their eyes on us of course. They always watched our every move, making us celebrities of the school along with the other popular cliques.

Stephanie was standing against her hot pink, new model Beatle with Abbey beside her while the other two bimbos were no where to be seen. She kept staring at us as we walked across the parking lot where we parked our vehicles. But Abbey was another story. Surprisingly, she was staring at Sean while he had his hand fisted and looking straight forward, looking like he was trying hard to resist turning to look at her.
