Chapter 65: Chapter 65

"You're right, baby doll. Let's get to class." Jake said as his anger dissolved, but a bit still remained. He opened his fisted hand and slid his fingers through mine that were covering his.

"Okay." I replied with a small smile touching my lips. He looked over at the others before looking back at me and pulling me forward in the direction of our class. Our friends followed after us as Sean said, "That comeback was epic, Max!"

I chuckled softly as Jake smiled and the rest laughed as we continued on our way to class.

At lunch time, we were sitting at our normal table with Jake on my right side and Shane on his side then Jane. Opposite us was Alex, Drake, Mike and Sean. We were all eating lunch, typical fries and burgers except for Jane and Alex who went for salad and pizza.

I wasn't surprised when I saw Tanner walking towards our table alone. However, Jake and our friends looked surprised, especially them since they've never met him before even though we have filled them in on who he was. We all quieted down as he reached the table.

"Hey, Max, Jake and friends." He greeted us as he sat down opposite me at the table.

Jake and I turned to each other with a confused look before looking back at him, and I decided to ask, "How comes you're here?"

He raised his brows, looking as if the answer should be obvious. "I enrolled into this school…"

I gave him a 'you must be kidding me look', but I knew that he wasn't doing that on purpose. He was only being typical, clueless Tanner. I shook my head as I explained, "No, I mean… How are you here when you shouldn't let Kane find out that you're our friend too?"

A look of understanding passed over his face as he said, "Oh, that. Yeah, he went home with the others 'cause he needed to let his wolf out and run his anger out." He glanced at Jake as he added, "You did a big number on him, man. He's really angry."

Jake's lips tugged up into a smirk, "Great 'cause I want it to be a reminder for him to stay away from Max."

"Why is he so obsessed with her, anyway?" Shane asked, making all our eyes go to him.

"Yeah, why he is so adamant on getting her? Could it be because of her gift?" Jane also asked before Tanner could answer Shane.

"He didn't tell us why, but he did say something about getting ultimate power once he gets the gift."

"Then that means those teleporting werewolves also wanted to get me in their grip because of it. But then how did they even know of me when I've never met them before." I said as my brows furrowed in thought.

Jake nodded, "Yeah, and they seemed really angry when they attacked us."

Tanner lifted his hand to his chin and caressed it as he looked deep in thought. "They must have sensed it when passing by or something… I don't really know, but try asking your giant lion friend."

"Alright, I will." I replied then looked over at the others as I realized that I haven't introduced them to Tanner yet. I looked back at him as I started, "Meet my friends-"

I looked back at them as I lifted my hand and pointed to each person with my index finger as I called out their names. "Alex, Drake, Mike, Sean, Shane and Jane."

"Hey, Tanner!" Sean, Jane and Alex greeted while Drake only nodded, Mike said, "'Sup man."

"Hi, nice to meet you." Shane added, and Tanner grinned at all of them for their warm welcome.

"Hi, nice to meet you all too!" He tuned his head to Jake and I, "These are your gang members?"

"Yeah, except for two that are in college." I said as I remembered Grey and Greg.

Tanner nodded, "Nice."

"So can you come over to teach us how to control our wolves some day?" Jake asked and we all looked at Tanner in anticipation.

Tanner gave us a small smile, "I would love to, but Kane is always watching me. Besides, you should be able to fight in wolf form and become stronger once you start staying in wolf form more."

"I think that he will come to know that you're hanging out with us since there are so many people in the school's cafeteria." Sean said as he looked around the room.

"I'll just deny it if anyone tattles on me, and he will believe it since we can make sure to have everyone keep quiet on it before they leave here." Tanner replied as he glanced over his shoulder at a table behind us with a group of friends eating and laughing together as they joked around.

"Are the group behind us also turned by Kane, your Alpha? If so, why would they have him turn them of all Alphas?" I asked as Alex added, "Yeah, who would do that?"

"People that are desperate, that's who." Tanner replied to Alex's second question. He turned to him then glanced over at me and everyone at the table as he said, "And yes, they were turned by Kane."

"What?!" Jake, Jane, Sean, Mike and I exclaimed at the same time while the rest also looked shocked.

I shook my head as I tried to make sense of everything, "How can they want to be wolves under Kane's pack?"

Tanner looked at me as he said, "'Cause he's known to be an Alpha of one the oldest packs here, and people want power with super natural abilities."

"And they think that they can get that by turning into supernatural beings? Wow." I said as I shook my head.

"But wait, does that mean people - specifically, werewolves now know about our gang?" Alex asked, making us all look at Tanner for his answer.

"Yeah, it's now popular, especially after all the shooting that happened that day."

I gasped as I asked, "You know about that too?"

Tanner nodded, looking amused, "Yeah, you've got to be careful what you say here. The walls have eyes and ears."
