Chapter 39: Chapter 39
Grey frowned in confusion, "Isn't that what's happening already? You're the ones ruling this new gang and the first werewolves turned, so it makes sense that you're the leaders."
"I didn't even think of it that way." I replied with a smile.
"Thank you, guys for taking us as leaders. We will not disappoint you whether we're Alphas or not." Jake said, also smiling at them.
An hour later, the twins have left and only Jake remained with me. He glanced at me from the arm chair that he was on, beside me. "So are you coming home with me or should I stay the night here again?"
I let out a breath, "Alright, fine. I'll come with you. I hope that your dad doesn't mind."
"He won't, I'll explain to him what's going on. But make sure that you let your dad know about this." He said, looking concerned.
"Yeah, I was just thinking of telling him." I said as I pulled out my phone from my pocket.
I tapped my phone then scrolled to my contact list to my dad's number where I saved it as 'Dad'. Tapping it, I placed my phone against my ear as it rang. Jake watched me, he must have noticed how nervous I was. Dad finally answered, "Hey, Maxine. How are you doing?"
"I'm fine, dad. How is work going?"
"Good, good. I know that you miss me, i miss you too. So don't worry, I'll be home in the next few months." He sounded excited as he said that. He did take a lit longer before returning home.
I couldn't help, but smile, "Yeah, that's awesome. But there's something happening over here."
My smile disappeared as I said the last part solemnly. He could hear the change in my tone and he sounded worried as he said, "What is it, sweetheart? Is it Kane again?"
I sighed, "Yes, he's back and he keeps coming to the house to get me, but someone has been helping me keep him away."
"Who is this someone?" He asked, sounding confused.
I glanced at Jake who was still watching me with an unreadable expression. "Jake, my boyfriend, and he wants me to stay with him and his dad to protect me from Kane."
I heard dad let out a sigh, "I don't like the sound of you sleeping in another boy's house."
"Dad, it's not safe here when I'm living alone. It's for my own good." I pleaded with him as I glanced at the TV.
"Fine, you can go there before we find a way to stop this Kane. In the mean time, I'll report him to the police."
"Alright, thank you." I smiled even though he couldn't see it.
"Call me once you reach Jake's place so that I can have a word with his dad."
"Okay, will do dad."
"Actually, give Jake the phone now so that I can have a word with him." He said, sounding firm, and I glanced at Jake. Our eyes met and he looked like he knew what was going to happen next.
"Okay." I took the phone away from my ear and passed it to Jake.
He took it from my hand, his fingers brushing mine and sending sparks through me. That was unusual, unlike any time that we have touched before. He placed the phone against his ear, "Hello, Sir."
"Yes, Sir. I will take care of her." He replied to what my dad said to him over the phone.
"I live a few blocks away." Jake paused as he listened to dad's reply.
"Alright, we'll call you then." He took the phone away from his ear and passed it back to me.
I took it from him and saw that dad has hung up. I placed the phone back in my pocket and glanced at Jake. "Let me grab my things and meet you back here."
"Okay, need any help?" He asked, his lips quirking up into a smile as I stood up.
"No, but thanks for offering." I said as I started towards the stairs. I could feel his eyes on my back as I trudged up the stairs.
As I reached the top floor, I walked towards my bed room and opened the door. I was going to have to pack for a few weeks.
After packing, I trudged down the stairs, pulling a small, red suitcase behind me. I saw Jake waiting for me at the end of the stairs. As I reached him, he took the suitcase from my hand, "Let me get that for you."
"Thanks." I smiled at him, and followed him out of the house. I turned around and closed the door then took out my keys from my pocket and inserted it in the lock. Twisting it, I locked it and took it out of the lock before placing it back in my pocket.
I turned back around to see Jake, waiting for me, and I started towards him. We started walking as soon as I reached him. "Your dad seems pretty cool and I can tell that he cares about you a lot."
I glanced at Jake as we strolled and he pulled my suitcase. "Yeah, I know that he's just trying to make a living and do what he loves."
"Yeah, exactly."
"I'm sure that he likes you already since you want to protect me."
"Of course, everyone loves me." He said with a smirk, and I laughed. He added, "But jokes aside, I'm really glad that he likes me."
I felt my lips stretch into a smile, "Me too."
"We're here." Jake said, making me look at where we were walking towards. His house was there on the right and we made our way to the door.
He placed his hand in his pocket and took out a key. He placed it in the key hole and twisted it before pushing the door open. Taking the key out of the key hole and placing it back in his pocket, he glanced at me.
