Chapter 49: Chapter 49

**Next day**

The D-day already arrived. The players that would be representing the school woke up as early as possible to revise their whole tactics.

During the time of their practice, Christian and Jayson had always contradicted themselves causing the entire group confusion.

They almost got into a fight but the coach was quick to separate them.

He was even having double thought on Christian being part of the group of players but what could he have done.

Christian had the determination and you could see it in his eyes while Jayson had intention and you could see it in his character. The intention to always win. The determination to beat them hands down.

It was hard choosing a captain. Christian and Jayson were both dominant males. You could see a cloud of authority over them.

Finally, he chose Jayson since Christian was new to their way of playing. But then he made an exception, he said they could work hands in hands which was nearly impossible.

They wore their outfits and matched with black sneakers and white mixed with black socks. Jayson wore the headband indicating he was the captain.

Christian wore an armband indicating he was an assistant. They all marched to the hall.

Their group name was Shining stars while the Scholars high school players was named The Scholars.

“Yay.” Students cheered and the cheerleaders jumped in excitement as they walked in.

Scholars high school bus drove into the school garage. They were all dresses in a basketball outfit with a jacket. The color of their outfit was cream mixed with white. They had sneakers with white socks. They were all dressed smartly as they marched outside. They stepped out of the bus and arranged themselves properly. Few students had also joined them alongside their cheerleaders.

Shining stars high players stood according to their heights with chest puffed out, waiting for their opponents. This was gonna be a tough game. Scholars high was known to always beat everyone at their own game. They never had a draw with anyone. They win!.

They walked with pride through the corridors and stood right in front of the door. They exhaled deeply and pushed the door open. Everyone turned their heads towards them as soon as they heard the clicking of the door. They stepped in alongside with their coach.

They had well-built body. They looked intimidating but Shining Stars High players were in no way intimidated.

The tension in the room seemed to have increased. Everyone was waiting anxiously for the game to begin.

“Step into the court.” They all heard.

The five players from each sides walked in and stood in defense. The ball was in the hands of the Shining stars.

They all bent slightly with the their back hunched. Then the alarm sounded and they all darted into a run.

~•<><><><><><><>•~

“Christian.”

“Christian”

“Christian.”

Everyone cheered as he kept bouncing the ball and dribbling of The Scholars who was tackling him. Jayson made a gesture that he should toss the ball at him but Christian ignored and was about to throw the ball into the net.

Everyone all looked at their direction of the ball in hopes of it entering into the net . Well, he did throw it but it hit the tip of the net and did not entered.

“Urgh.” Everyone mumbled with a look of disappointment. The Shining Stars were all tired.

Since they had began the game, they have not gone pass fifty while the scholars was leading them with a total of 70. Christian and Jayson kept doing as they liked, ruining the game.

Phew!!!

The referee blew the whistle and they all stopped running. They were breathing heavily.

“Five minutes break.” He announced. They all walked out of the court and went to their side of the room.

“What are you guys doing?” The coach yelled at Jayson and Christian. He did not even let them sit or drink before throwing the questions at them.

“Coach, these two can't work together.” Jasper said.

“And what do you mean by that? Since the time we practice, don’t they work together?” He questioned.

“They are always opponents.” Matt added.

“Well, I don’t care if they don’t like each other or are opponents. Buckle up and win that game. Break each and every record The Scholars have.” He ordered.

They all nodded their heads except for you know, Jayson and Christian. These two are very adamant.

Phew!!!

The referee blew the whistle again and the players all walked back to the court and facing each other.

The ball was in the hands of the scholars this time.

The alarm sounded and they started dribbling and tackling.

Jayson ran towards the scholars net and Christian was tackling one of the scholars. He finally got the balk from him, he bounced it and ran past him. He looked around and saw Jayson standing there in waiting, he smiled gently and threw the ball at him. Jayson jumped and caught the ball. In swift, he ran past two of the scholars and jumped then he threw the ball straight into the net.

“Yay!” Everyone stood up and chorused happily.

The game went on and on with the shining stars getting more scores and Christian and Jayson.

The score was now 235:234. It was just two minutes away to the end of the game. Shining stars had the score of 235 while the latter had 234.

The players all gulped dryly and buckled up their strength. They were all playing fiercely. The eyes of the other students were moving around as the players had become swift. Then it clocked just a minute to go.

The scholars fought so hard and threw the balm into the shining stars net. Giving a score of 235:235.

Just thirty seconds to go. Jayson and Christian shared an eye contact and nodded at each other.

Jasper tossed the ball to Matt while Matt threw it at Jayson. At this time, Christian and Jake already stood at the sides of the opponents' court.

Jayson looked between the two of them knowing fully well who he wanted to toss the ball. He faced Raph and was about to throw the ball to him when he turned and threw it at Christian.

Christian caught it and ran quickly as the time was three seconds. Two seconds. He jumped and threw the ball into it. One second.

The alarm sounded. Everyone were all on a standing ovation and shouted.

“Yes!!!” They laughed happily.

“And it has come to the end of the game. The Scholars had a total score 235 while the Shining Stars had a total of 236.” The voice said.

“Yay!!” Everyone chanted.

Jayson and Christian both smiled at each other and shook hands.

“See what unity can do.” The coach said smiling.

“You broke record, guys. You really did.” He commended them. They all smiled tiredly, breathing heavily.

“Congratulations.” The lady said as she handed the cup over to them.

Jayson and Christian both raised it up and they snapped a picture with it. They passed it to other players also.

Jayson walked tiredly towards his bag and opened it. He searched for his water bottle but did not see it.

“Looking for this?” He heard someone say. He looked up and saw her smiling.
