Chapter 21: Chapter 21

Chapter 21

[Rebuked!]

“Mehn, that girl really got you.” Jace said as he went over the papers Elsa had thrown on Shawna.

“But wait, how did they leave the vice principal office without getting punished?”

“Stay away from him.” Jasper said as he read it over again with his brows arched.

“Who is the ‘him'?” He asked.

“Jayson of course.” Jake said.

“Shawna went too far this time, telling Elsa to stay away from him.” Jeremy said, directly looking at Jayson and shook his head in dismay.

“Like she was his girlfriend.” Jace added with a grimace.

“Jayson, what are you going to do?” Jasper asked.

“I already sent a junior to get her for me.” Jayson said as he stared out blankly after a huge silence.

“I will take my leave now.” He said and left.

**

Shawna stood anxiously waiting for Jayson to come. She had thought Jayson would be here waiting for her but no, the reverse was the case.

Then she had footsteps coming in her direction, her heartbeat started pumping faster than its usual rate. She inhaled deep and exhaled. She was so nervous.

Jayson got to her place and stopped walking. She turned and looked at him.

“Shawna.” He drawled out with an underneath tone of anger.

“Hmm, hi, Jayson.” Shawna said nervously.

“Can you tell me what happened in café earlier on, what was it about?” He asked as he took a seat with a calm, dangerous demeanor.

“I mean why did you put a paper with a ‘stay away from him' written on it in Elsa's locker?” He asked.

“I..” Shawna did not know how to reply him. She swallowed lightly as beads of sweat formed on her forehead. She was getting nervous and her voice was not helping her.

“Jayson, I can explain.” She said. “I….”

“And I am all ears. I can hear you.”

“Shawna, why do I have a feeling that the ‘him’ in that paper is me?” He asked.

“You went on to threaten someone to stay away from me, who gave you such audacity?” He yelled, standing you. Shawna flinched and gripped her skirt tightly. As it was the only thing that was helping her stay rigid.

“Jayson, please, calm down a bit.” Shawna begged and moved closer to touch him.

“If your hands touch me, I will cut it off.” He seethed angrily.

Shawna dropped her hands and tears started streaming down her face.

“I am sorry.” She said.

“You know when you came to apologise to me, I already said we could be talking but now, you.. I am so disappointed in you.” He said finally and left her there. He knew if he had stayed there, he will manhandled someone's daughter.

Shawna broke down and started crying.

“Jayson!” She shouted.

“Elsa, don’t you think all you did in the café was too extra?” Ellie asked.

“What do you mean by ‘too extra'?” Elsa asked with a frown.

“You should have gone to talk to her in her place, you know.” Ellie stated.

“I don’t understand you, someone keeps threatening me and you ask me not to speak sense into her?” Elsa asked.

“She keeps telling me stay away from ‘him’ when I don’t even know who the ‘him' is.” Elsa continued.

“Let me make something clear to you, we are different. I am not as soft and letting go as you are.” She said. Ellie heaved a sigh as the indirect insult.

“You and I both know she was talking about Jayson!” Ellie said.

“Then tell her to keep her jealous bitchy self off me. Not like Jayson was some one million dollars trophy.” Elsa said and Ellie scoffed.

“If you keep going around and making yourself look strong when you are not, I hope one day, you won't meet your match.” She said with a hiss.

**

“How are you doing, my love?” He asked and smiled at her. She beamed a smile back at him and hugged him.

“Been so long since I talked to you.” He said with a small pout. She giggled and looked at him in the eyes.

“We do talk and chat on the phone.” She said.

“And so? With people around, it is quite difficult to talk to you.” He complained.

“Well, you will have to endure it.” She said and smiled.

“Hope all this secrecy will end some time.” He said with an hopeful gaze.

“And how are faring with your new friends?” He asked.

“So homely and the way they bicker, gosh, it is so interesting.” She said as she laughed at a memory.

“Been long since I saw you laugh like this.” He said. She looked up to him and chuckled.

“I have no choice than to accept my fate, she is gone. There is nothing I can do about it.” She said. “And beside, my dad and his wife has been treating me so good, no maltreatment so far. I am good.”

“I can see that.” He said and drew her closer to himself.

“How is studies going?” He asked.

“Just finding accounting little bit difficult.” She said.

“You are not always listening in the class because if you are, even though you don’t understand, you will grasp one thing or the other.” He said. “And moreover, you can ask the teacher to explain all over again until you understand and when you get back to your dorm, you will revise.”

“Oh please, don’t scold me.” She said and rolled her eyes.

“You and I both know I am not scolding you.” He said and looked away.

“Hey, don’t be angry, just stop behaving like my dad.” She said. “It is tiring, you know, talking like my dad, I feel pressurized.”

He chuckled.

“If you don’t want to live in the streets then you had better feel pressurized.” He said.

“Wish I could live as free as the birds of the sky.” She said and tucked her hair to the back of ear as the night breeze kept blowing it.

“Yeah but we've got no choice.” He said and inhaled.

“When we go on our short break, remind me to go to the beach. With you.” He said and she laughed.

“So that I can dig you up with sand.” She said.

“You know I really like that.” He said. “And gosh, my entire scalp was filled with sand. Before they could wash it off, they did a lot of combing and shampooing. My mom warned me not do such play again.”

“It is getting late maybe you should go back to your dorm.” He said and pulled her away from him.

“No.” She insisted and pouted.

“We will talk on the phone, you know I hate to let you go too.” He said. “Now go, let me watch your back.”

“Good night.” She said with sadness written on her face.

“Good night, my love.” He said.

**

“Shawna isn't back yet?” Tessy asked as she came outside of her room.

“Yes, she hasn't.” Betty said.

“Strange.”

**After few minutes**

Shawna stepped inside her dorm with all her strength drained out of her. She was walking but her soul had gone away for a long time.

She had already set things straight with him but Elsa had just ruined everything. She ruined it all. She felt like screaming, shouting and yelling but she was too weak to do it.

“Oh, Shawna, you are back already.” Tessy said as she looked up to see a soulless body walking in.
