Chapter 21: Chapter 21
The student moved towards the timetable in the corridor. The crowd suffocated me because I have been practising to be alone all my life. Now, this is my new routine. Jacen held my hands until we were in front of the timetable board.
“Hey, Talent Class is our first period taken by Queen and her sister. I think so,” Jacen said to four of us.
“So, we all need to wait for our chances. Cool. We can chill down and know about each other,” Amelia responded calmly, brushing her hair away.
“It’s our first class. We can’t relax. The Queen will know our strengths and abilities from this class only. I can’t relax.” Leona firmly said while we make our way to the waiting room. As there are many students in the first class, it may take this whole night. After taking seats in another hall, I stayed silent, waiting for the new next moment in my life. I twirled my hair and did it again and again. The time passed away but no students have been called yet.
“Students, there are two batches for you in talent class. The first batch will be taken by Queen and another by the king,” Dorothy announced and smiled at someone particularly. My eyes followed her gaze to see Cassie again. Oh god, Queen’s sister is always caring for her daughter. I don’t know whether she is married or not.
“We all are batch one. So, Queen Victoria is our teacher. Hurray,” Noah’s excited voice brought me back from my thoughts. Iam not going to mind about other’s business. Who cares about Dorothy? I need to meet the Queen. She seems like an angel dressed in a witch’s form. I feel like some good energy always radiates from her.
“That’s cool. I wanted to meet the Queen in person. “I said, looking at everyone’s reaction and noticing Amelia, who started sleeping.
“Hey, how can you sleep right now?” I shook her and others are laughing.
“Um... wake me when it’s the time. I don’t care much about talents and all which I don’t have...” she sleepily said. I never thought a she-wolf will be sleepy. Every fact differs when it comes to reality.
“You have talents too,” I said, still shaking her arms.
“I know, I have. That is sleeping and talking. Do you get it now?” she mutters and someone called me loud enough to be heard by everyone in the hall.
“Sydney Marin. Who is Sydney here?” A bodyguard shouted on the other side of the hall, waiting for the response.
“That’s me,” I yelled back. He motioned me to follow him.
“It’s your chance. Go, show who you are, baby,” Jacen patted my shoulders. I nervously nodded and followed the bodyguard. I don’t expect my chance will come quickly. But I hate everyone’s eyes following me until I got out of the hall.
As I approached a room, the bodyguard opened the door for me. I nervously took a step forward, but my nervousness vanished with a sudden fear. Iam not only facing Victoria but also her sister and... Pamela... what the hell?
Nina kicked her out of the house. Within this short period, how did she come to a great position in this academy? I started shivering and wanted to run the hell out of this room. I don’t want to be afraid of her, but seeing her reminds me of that Minotaur and her worst behaviour. The first impression is the best. Pamela won’t let me score well on this test. What will I do If I failed to express myself and my powers?
I stood five feet away from the judge’s table. I don’t know what should I do? The whole room is a wide-open: cupboard filled with things allocated separately and named after Witch, Vampire, Werewolf, Others. I don’t have time to notice what’s there in it. I looked at nowhere but Queen’s eye. She’s the only person who seems kind so Iam looking at her but she is staring at me like seeing a ghost.
I expected someone to talk first, but the Queen remained silent for a minute. She’s gazing at me like trying to figure out something. I felt more tension in the room. Dorothy is looking carefree while Pamela’s giving me a killer look.
“So, you are Sydney Marin, right?” Victoria came out from some kind of trance and smiled.
“Yes,”
“We already know you are a witch. Can you do any spells or make any portions?” Dorothy interrupted again and pointed her hands at a cupboard with a board ‘Witch’. There are many ingredients and portions and empty portion glass. I don’t have a single idea to make a portion by myself. I will blow the whole Academy if I tried without knowing.
“I don’t know any spells,” I admitted the truth to Dorothy but looking at the Queen.
“I have never seen a witch without knowing how to make a portion. At least do you know any spells?” Pamela spoke for the first time, laughing at me. Dorothy joined her. I felt insulted and embarrassed. But the person who should be ashamed is Pamela. I won’t leave here without doing something to her, no matter what the Queen thinks.
“Both of you should stop. She’s our student,” Victoria raised her voice and silenced them.
“Do whatever spells you know. There’s no need to be afraid. Show what you got and I will help you stimulate it,” Queen Victoria encouraged me. I took a deep breath to calm myself, but Pamela crossed her limit.
“She doesn’t know anything. Should we really have a student like this?” she said to Dorothy, tapping her pen on a sheet where I will be scored according to my performance.
“Stop it. Can’t I have some time for myself?” I shouted, as some power radiated in my hands. I closed my hands tight enough to stop it, but all the lights in the room flickered and shattered into many pieces. Everyone went silent and was a little shocked to respond.
I lift my right hand up to bring light to the darkroom. My blue power radiated and brought bright enough to fill the darkroom with light.
“You want to know what I can do?” I spoke fiercely, looking at Pamela. At this moment I want to harm her, but I can’t do it as a student. I need to think of a new way, but right now I can do one thing to pass this test. I know how to have control over the electricity, lights and move any objects. That’s enough for me.
I lifted all three sheets where they will score my marks. I lifted the three pens at the same time and make it score full marks on each paper. No one makes a move to stop me.
“See, Iam not powerless. Don’t insult me again,” I made my words clear enough, losing all the fear which I had a few minutes ago.
“You are selected, Sydney,” Victoria said without a doubt. She snapped her fingers and some shimmering blur light travelled around all the broken pieced which joined together and reversed itself. The lights started burning like how it’s been a minute ago. I closed my fist again and all my energy vanished under my control.
“Victoria, she scored her in the sheet all by herself and now you are telling her she’s selected,” Dorothy argued while I smirked at seeing Pamela. I can tell she wants to make a bad impression on the Queen.
“Don’t you dare question me?”
“Now you can go, Sydney.” the Queen told me. I bowed to her and gladly walked out of the room.
