Chapter 18: Chapter 18
“This is our last purchase. You will see the subjects for your first year. “Alice leads us into another store where there’s a pile of books arranged properly and also some are lying on the floor.
“Hi, Mary.” Alice approached her like a long-lost friend.
“It’s been a long time since I saw you. Where have been lately?” The old woman in her sixties with more wrinkles asked her while picking a book from the floor.
“Sorry, I can’t able to call you. So now Iam here to...” Alice got interrupted by Mary.
“Two Vampires and a witch, right? I will come up with their timetable.” She said, walking towards a cupboard.
“How...you know?” I stammered. We didn’t even tell her about our species.
“She knows everything.” Alice proudly said, and Mary returned with three papers.
“I will explain everything clearly. Sign in if you are willing or I won’t be responsible for your death.” Death? Am I going to Academy or a war?
“I don’t understand. Why are we going to die?” I doubtfully asked and looked at the paper. There are many subjects and at last a place for signature.
“I said I will explain it. Let’s start with easy subjects.” She cleared her throats, and we three waited for her to continue. But minutes have gone. She didn’t respond. She is staring blankly at nowhere.
“Aren’t you going to tell us?” Jacen talked first, and she looked alarmed.
“Oh, you are still here. I sometimes forget what’s happening around me,” she responded immediately and took a seat in a chair.
“Before buying books, I will tell the subjects. When it comes to the theory, there are two subjects. History. You will learn about the seven cities in Odren country. How it’s created and the existence of the first vampire, witch, etc... It’s not that hard. Anyone can do this and it’s a compulsory subject.”
“Okay. So, what’s the next?” Noah asked.
“Next is an optional subject. It’s a quiz class. Whatever you read in history will be questioned and also you need to read infinite books from the library to answer all questions. It’s not that easy. They will be opponents for you and you need to tell the answers within time.”
“Iam not going to choose this. It’s pretty boring.” Noah replied instantly, and Jacen nodded. But I want to try it.
“I will take it.”
“Seriously, it’s not that easy. If you win, you will get rewards and each time you answer wrongly, you will get punishment. The questions will be twisted and Iam warning you not to get involved in the quiz.” I think she is good at discouraging. Who cares? I know I will win.
“I will take it,” I stressed those words.
“Fine. But the good news is the rewards will be something permanent and the punishment will be temporary. I won’t tell you anything more about it. I like suspense, you will see everything when the time comes.”
“So… now it’s for you.” She pointed her hands at me.
“Me.”
“Yes, you are a witch. You will be having magic spells class and magic portion class. In spells class, you will be learning more spells and how to improve yours and will even have duals with other students. Sometimes, they will have injuries but you are a confident girl, so I guess you can manage it. Then in portions class, you will be practically creating portions, and marks will be given according to your performance and result in creating the portion perfectly in time.”
“That’s it, right? I can do that.” I instantly replied without letting her speak another word. She’s talking so slowly and giving many warnings. I don’t know whether she wants us to join in Academy or not. Then she told some subjects for Jacen and Noah. Their subjects are all about their speed and compulsion power.
“Next is Talent class, where the queen will see your powers and strength. She will help you stimulate it. The class will happen rarely cause the queen will probably be busy.
“Okay,” we said in unison.
“Finally, we are here going to take about the last subject.” She seriously looked at us, and I know she’s going to warn us about something again. I think it’s a warning store than a bookstore.
“Games and competition. It’s an optional class cause it’s difficult to survive. This class will happen in the forest at night. You will be given a laborious task and need to get through the forest to finish the task and also compete with other students. You will face many monsters while reaching for the destination. You can take this...”
“We are okay with that. I will sign the paper.” Jacen interrupted, probably bored with her warnings.
“I didn’t finish it. Do you know why you got the crystals? It’s for your protection in this class. You may have a chance of losing your life. Then the crystals will save your life three times and if you died over three times, you will be gone forever. Over.” Finally, I felt a little afraid but what’s fun without taking the risk.
“If the crystal can only save our lives. Why didn’t they tell us before buying?” Noah raised a question.
“Most of them won’t buy it so we are telling at last everything is done.” She smirked.
“I will go. Here goes nothing.” I signed the paper without hesitation. Jacen and Noah signed after I did.
“Now your life isn’t our responsibility. Let’s see you in Academy,” she said, putting her specs and bringing us three bags full of books.
“Will you be in the Academy?” Noah asked, hoping she won’t come.
“Yes, Iam the librarian. The new academic year isn’t started yet. I will be there once it begins.” She replied and buried her face in a book and acted like there’s nobody in the store except her.
“So, I will take you home. The purchase over. Take the bags.” Alice told us. I looked at my bag. I have more books than Jacen and Noah. I got more books for Witch spells and portions. She said it’s difficult to survive in life-taking games and competitions, but I already survived being in my home for sixteen years. I can’t take this anymore. Iam willing to do any risk whether or not it endangers my life.
