Chapter 47: Chapter 47

"Charge my phone, Henry," I told him bringing out my cell phone from my pocket, the battery has been flat for a while now I need to charge it just in case someone's trying to reach me especially Doctor Sam.

"Okay sir," Henry said taking the cell phone from me with one arm without looking, while his other arm is still on the steering and charging it in front of the car.

"You can turn it on," I told him.

"Alright, sir," he said, powering it on as well with one arm and driving still, with the other.

"Your phone is ringing, Sir Kyle," Henry told me, a few minutes after turning it on, peeking at me from the car mirror in front of him.

"Who's calling?" I asked, leaning forward a little.

"It's your mum calling, sir Kyle, " he told me.

Why would she be calling me now? I asked within me she's not the reason why I had to charge my phone.

"Let it ring, I don't want to talk to her at the moment," I told Henry, I know what she's going to say anyway.

"Don't worry Henry," I told him when I saw how he looked at me from the car mirror in front of him, "I'll just take the call later, just go faster a little, will you?" I told him again, "she's probably worried that I'm not home yet," I added, or Sonia must have told her something, I said within me again, looking out of the window even though it's wind up.

"Okay sir," Henry said and then stepped on the car increasing the speed.

"Stay in the car, Henry," I told him when he wanted to open the car door on the driver's seat after he pulled over in the office parking lot some minutes later.

"Are you sure you're going to be alright by yourself sir Kyle?" Henry asked, turning to look at me from the driver's seat.

"Yes, Henry, I'll be fine, you just wait here, I won't be long," I told him opening the car door myself and then slowly climbed down from the car, I am feeling very weak though and I guess Henry could see that judging from the worried look on his face.

I just have to see Brian, he has some explaining to do and I can't wait for him to get home before I can talk to him, not after Kimberly spoke to me with so much hate in her eyes.

I walked my way slowly towards the elevator going up to Brian's office, doing my best to try and act normal in front of the staff, I noticed a few of them staring at me though, after saying hello.

Once inside the elevator, I leaned on the elevator wall waiting impatiently to get to Brian's office.

"Woo! What are you doing here, Kyle? And how can you just barge into my office like that?" Brian asked, looking up from his desk the moment I stormed into his office.

I staggered my way to a chair in front of his desk ignoring his question.

"Are you okay? You should be resting at home, you don't look too good, why bother coming all the way here?" Brian asked again sounding worried and standing up from his chair and coming around to try and support me.

"Get your hands off me, Brian," I said pushing his hands away from me, with the little strength I've got in me, and sitting heavily on the chair.

"Is there a problem, Kyle? I mean, what's the meaning of this?" Brian asked sounding and looking confused.

"What's the meaning of this?" I asked him instead, producing the cheque that Kimberly threw on my face some moments ago.

"Explain this to me, Brian," I said looking into his face.

"How did you get this?" Brian asked again, looking and sounding surprised.

"Just answer my question, Brian, what's the meaning of this? Why did you go ahead and give Kimberly a cheque after we quarreled about it at the hospital?" I asked furrowing my brows at him.

"This is no business of yours, Kyle, I'm only following dad's instruction, it's nothing personal, and why does this affect you anyway? They are just random people you just met because of an accident, an accident, Kyle," Brian said, sounding a little angry himself.

"And how did this get to you anyway?" He asked too looking from the cheque to me.

"That woman threw this cheque in my face, and asked me to return it to you as she doesn't need it," I told Brian angrily.

"By that woman, you mean the mother of the kid?" He asked.

"Yes, Brian, the kid's mum," I replied almost immediately.

"Woo, what kind of a woman is she anyway, who rejects a cheque these days? A handsome cheque such as this one," Brian said, walking back to his chair with the cheque in his hands, "She looked poor, even a rich person would not reject this handsome cheque," he added teasingly.

"A person with dignity, I guess," I replied Brian angrily for trying to be funny with something as sensitive as this one.

"What dignity? I haven't heard about such before, especially not with this case and in times like this," Brian said to me with a smirk on his face.

"Is this funny to you, Bryan?" I asked getting very angry at him, "I bet it's also in the way you presented the cheque and the circumstances attached to it, don't you think?" I told Brian, wishing I could knock some sense into him so that he can look at it from the same angle as me.

"Well, Kyle, I was just doing what I was told to do by Dad, I didn't mean any harm," Brian told me sitting on his chair.

You have caused more harm than you could know, Brian, I said within me staring angrily at him.

"Why does it affect you so much anyway, Kyle, you asked as if you knew this woman from somewhere, of course, I know you haven't met her before anyway, pull yourself together, you need to go home now because you don't look good, and you wouldn't want dad to see you here like this, I already covered for you when he came here asking me after you, he called your number too but it wasn't going through," Brian told me.

I just stared at him furiously for a while not knowing what else to do, I never knew Brian will act like this over an accident such as this one, especially when it involves a little child, I expected differently from him given the fact that he is also trying to have a child himself.

"Why did you do it, Brian?" I finally asked rather calmly but in a cold voice anyway.

"Do you mean why I present the cheque to them?" He asked, and continued when I did not reply, " I told you, I was only following dad's instruction and it's for her own good too, she needs to take care of her son especially now that she's going to leave the hospital,"

"What? Leave the hospital?" I asked surprised by what he just said.

"Yes, Kyle, didn't the lady inform you about it?" He asked looking into my face.

"No, and why is she leaving the hospital?" I asked furiously feeling my blood boiling more than it already has inside of me, "that child hasn't recovered yet, why send them away, out of the hospital? And for what?" I asked glaring at Brian.

"For our families image, you know..." Brian was saying.

"What family image are you talking about?" I asked interrupting him, "that hospital is one of the best hospitals in this City, why send them away when the boy hasn't recovered yet?" I asked Brian getting confused.

"Look, Kyle, dad doesn't want the boy to stay there because of the circumstances with which he got to be there in the first place, you run into him, Kyle, out of your carelessness, if anything happens to him there while in that hospital, it is going to affect our family's image badly, don't you get it, we have already taken care of the time when you first knocked him down, so it is better he gets treatment elsewhere to avoid being questioned by the press or those who are dad's sworn enemies, who want to take over and be number one in this city if anything bad happens to him.

"So this is what all this is about, dad's image, dad's freaking image, that is why you are asking a child who is in a critical condition to leave a hospital, he is not even awake yet," I snapped at him.

"Wait! What? Don't tell me you haven't heard the good news yet," Brian said looking up into my face.

"What good news?" I asked again staring back at him skeptically.

"The boy is already awake, that's what doctor Sam said, "And this is also going to be to our advantage." He added.

"What? How do you mean?" I asked Brian.

"It's good because he will be leaving now that he is already awake, it's not going to be on you if something goes wrong, dad is only protecting you here." He told me.

"I don't believe you," I told Brian, getting suspicious of him, "if the boy is awake like he said, Dr Sam would have given me a call by now, I'm sure of it."

"Well doctor Sam does not report to you anymore, dad's instruction too, and besides, your cell phone has been off, remember? I tried calling you up earlier myself, but couldn't get through to you." He told me.

I stare at Brian, I don't think the child is awake as he said, if he is, why didn't Kimberly tell me about it? I think something is not right here, I thought to myself.

"Where are you going to now, Kyle?" Brian asked the moment I stood up from his chair, "don't tell me you are going back to the hospital," he said when I didn't reply to his question.

"It is no concern of yours, Brian, whether I go back to the hospital or not," I said to him without looking at him, am just tired of what is going on, I expected Brian to be on my side in this but he is proving otherwise, when will he ever take control and face dad like the man he is.

"Excuse me," Brian said coming to stop me.

"Get your hands off me," I told him, trying to push him away but my strength failed me.

"I can't let you go back to that hospital like this if that's what you plan to do, it's late already, and you need to take care of your health too, Kyle, what if something bad happens to you? You know your health condition, you shouldn't be transferring blood to another in the first place."

"Shut up Brian, and let me go," I yelled at him furiously.

"What is going on here?" A familiar voice asked.

"Dad," Bryan said letting go of me, I could hear a trace of fear in Brian's voice as he mentioned dad and this provoked me the more.

I looked up to see dad standing by the door, looking very Furious.

"Did you say Kyle transferred blood to someone?" Dad asks sounded very angry, his eyes on me.

"Yes, dad," Brian replied rather slowly.

"Who did he transfer his blood to?" Dad asked Brian again, but his eyes are still on me, his brows furrowed too.

"To the little boy he knocked down with his car," Brian replies again rather slowly.

"You did?" Dad asked, glaring at me, I bet he is very angry right now but I am angrier at him as well and I do not care how mad he might be at me right now.

And I was about to say something to him when suddenly my head became light and I feel like am about to fall too...

"Kyle! Kyle, are you okay?" was the last thing I heard from Brian when suddenly everything became still...
