Chapter 30: Chapter 30

"What did dad ask you to do with her?" I asked Brian, I want to know what he was asked to do exactly, because I know dad can be despicable most times and Brian will carry out his bidding no matter what.

"It doesn’t concern you, Kyle," he told me in a stain voice.

"What do you mean, it doesn't concern me, of course, it concerns me, Brian, it's my fault that kid is lying in there fighting for his life so if there's anybody who's going to be here, it's supposed to be me, I wonder why dad didn't want it that way, unless he has something up his sleeves which he knows I won't approve of," I told him.

"Well, let's just assume that," Brian said after a while.

"I knew it," I muttered to myself, tightening my jaw muscles, "What did dad ask you to do, Brian?" I asked, peering at him. "What did dad ask you to do?" I asked again getting furious because I have a feeling that whatever it is will definitely not be good.

"Well, it's not that bad, Kyle," he said, shrugging his shoulders, I guess it's that bad because of the expression on his face right now.

"I still want to know what it is," I said, leaning forward from the chair.

He stared at me for a while, and I know he is contemplating whether to tell me or not, "Tell me, Brian," I insisted.

"Okay," He said after another while, "But I hope you will not go and confront dad about it, I mean, it's not that bad after all," He said and continues when I gave him a go-ahead look.

"He asked me to pay her off, and get them to leave this hospital to a different one quietly, because this is our family hospital and he doesn't want anything to damage our family’s reputation." He said.

"I knew it, it's all about our family’s reputation all the time," I said in clenched teeth, getting angrier.

"When will dad stop making things about our family? When?" I asked Brian.

"You know how dad is, but I think this is not a bad idea, I mean, with the money involved, it's going to serve them a great deal, judging from the women's look, I bet she needs that money, it will change her life if you ask me?" Brian said.

"And what about the kid's life? Don't you care what happens to the kid if he leaves this hospital? You know this hospital is the best there is in this town," I asked as I furrowed my brows to Brian.

"Wow, you don't have to get mad at me, am not the enemy here, and I am only carrying out instructions given to me by dad," he said.

"Do you have to do everything he asks you to, even if it is wrong?" I asked, peering at him.

"It depends on how you look at it, Kyle, for me, I don't see anything wrong with that, and as for the kid's survival, that shouldn't be any of your concern because you have compensated the family already and get them to sign a document saying they won't bother you in the future." He said. "I mean, shit happens, the accident was bound to happen, that's why it did, it doesn't matter if you were involved, if not you, it could have been someone else, so don't let it bother you." He added.

"Oh no, Brian, that is being cruel, don't you think? How can dad influence you like this?" I asked because I never knew him to think like this, and am assuming it because of dad anyway.

"It's the reality of life, Kyle, I chose to be logical about things, I don't let my heart cloud my way of reasoning, so I suggest you start thinking likewise, so that you don't get to be fighting with dad all the time over little things such as this one." He said.

"You call this little? An accident that almost cost a child his life, you dare to call little," I said, getting angrier at him than I already do.

"Don't get me wrong, Kyle..." He was saying but I didn't want to hear any more of what he has to say.

"That's enough, Brian, I don't want to hear it," I told him." Standing up from the chair.

"Let me help you, Kyle," he said, getting up too to hold me but, I refused his help, I didn’t imagine he would say things like this, dad has really corrupted him, and he now thinks very much like him.

"I can go by myself, Brian, don't bother about me," I told him, "Excuse me, nurse," I called instead to a nurse I saw walking past me.

"Yes," He replied turning towards me, he came to my side the moment he saw how I staggered, I guess.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"Yes, please can you give me a hand, walk me to my car please," I told him, ignoring Brian, who insisted on helping.

"Okay, sure," He replied, allowing me to lean on him, "Are you sure you're going to be alright? Don't you need any medical attention?" He asked, too.

"No, that's not necessary, but thanks anyway," I told him.

"Are going to be alright driving on your own?" The nurse asked when we got to my car, I guess he was skeptical about letting me in the car when he saw that am the one driving me.

"Yeah, I'll manage, thanks again," I told him.

"Don't worry I'll handle it," Brain told the nurse before he left, I didn’t know he followed behind.

"Let me drive you home Kyle, you don't look alright," He said turning to me.

"What do you care?" I asked him closing my car door, "Do not worry, like I told the nurse, I'll manage okay," I told him, and then started the car.

"Stop being stubborn, Kyle..." He was saying before I drove off, I don't want to listen to him anymore because my mind is made up on driving home myself, even though I feel weak a little, I think I can still drive, besides I do not want his company right now because of what he told me about Alex...
