Chapter 59: Chapter 59
“From now on Natasha this is going to be your new home.”
I didn’t say anything as I roamed my eyes around the entire spot. Something was placed above my chest, weighing my heart downcast causing it for me to breath arduous. I don’t know how would I feel to be honest. I know everything happens for a reason but this is certainly so uncommon for me to feel. It happened all so fast.
It feels like part of me is missing. That, I don’t want to continue this new life that is ahead of me. I want to go back home, and snuggle back to my bed beside my sister’s clothes. This place feels new to me, just as how I felt the first time mother brought us in thinking that she would literally take care of us.
“Honey, I think she’s scared.” the woman right in front of me whispered to her husband who smiles awkwardly. He scratches the back of his head before kneeling on the floor so he could level his face to me.
“Natasha, honey. Don’t you love your new home?” the man asked carefully, making sure that I will not throw tantrums or anything since I am still a kid. I did not answer his question. Instead, I walked pass beside him while looking up at the ceilings.
They were soaring in my sight, causing my vision to spin a little. The house is spacious, probably because there are no furniture yet. It was an up, and down structure. I shook my head then raised my hand, trying to reach the upper surface when I felt someone cloak their arms around my knees, and I felt my body slowly floating making me look taller. My eye ogled down to see who was holding me. It was the man who adopt me. He was smiling brightly while staring captive through my eyes.
“Be careful, honey. She might fell down.” his wife commented while biting her nails.
“Relax, darling, she won’t. I am holding her safely.” his gaze went back on my confront.
“Is this your first time being carried like this?”
I nodded slowly while my lips were closed thinly. The man smiled then tilted his head to his right before placing me on his shoulder. He started to walk in circles. He gestured his head, and his wife immediately understood it because she went straight to the kitchen. I tried to peek to see what she is doing when the man spoke.
“You know, when I first saw you I knew this kid needed help.” he started to explain to me his first impression.
“You really caught my attention in the Orphanage House. You are different from other kids there. You rarely smile, and you don’t play like the others. Then, a nun told me you were more interested to learn about werewolves, which is what the only thing you always talk about there.”
I fell into silence when he narrates my story back at the Orphanage, which I only lasted for a month after what happened to my sister. It was against my consent to move separately to mother, since I am used to her presence somehow. Nadine’s grave was also there right in front of our lawn. But the sheriff in our town already arrange my papers.
Everyone in the orphanage, mostly the kids, treated me differently. They do not want to talk to me after I talked about my sister, and how she can transformed into a werewolf. They find me creepy-crawly, and uncanny. They pushed me away until I was forced to spend my days there, not talking with anyone other than myself when this couple arrived, and chose me as their new daughter.
“You talked maturely which is far from your age.” he pointed out, snapping me back to my senses after staring out of nowhere.
“Bad things…” I mumbled, and I noticed how he leaned his face a little closer so he could hear me.
“I’m sorry, can you repeat that? I did not quite catch that-”
“Bad things happened before.” I tardily said with debilitated tone while looking at the painting right in front of me.
“They killed my twin right in front of me because they said she is a monster. My adoptive mother before was the reason why she was killed.” I shook my head when my voice become hoarse because I remember it again.
“My sister is no monster, believe me. She’s nice, friendly, and always think of others before her. She is the most amazing sister I have but they took her away from me.” my whole body went rigid as I tried to compose my nerves from quivering.
“I want to di-”
I was not even finished with my sentence when the man brought me down in between his arms, then hugged me closely. I blink, while tears were falling endlessly to my cheeks. I slowly look up at his face, and I was shock to see him also crying. He pursed his lips, as if he was in deep pain after hearing my story.
“I am so sorry you have to endure so much pain despite your age.” he caressed my back, and my shoulders. His wife came back, and she was fuddled to see her husband crying while kneeling down on the floor.
“Honey, what happened? Are you okay? Why are you two crying?” she placed a plate on the table which the saccharine, and flavorful aroma of it occupied my nostrils. My mouth watered instantly but I snap back to the man when he spoke again.
“N-nothing, honey. It’s just that Natasha here has been through so much. We have to do everything, and gave her everything she need to forget her past.”
Then he explained to her what happened to me. The woman ariled her mouth while her eyes were staring to get glossy. I don’t know if they are exaggerating or that they felt really bad for me. They both kneeled down right in front of me then held my hands, swearing for their lives that they will do with all they have just to fulfill my smile.
I actually do not understand them at first thought. Since, I don’t have any idea what does it feel like to be treated genuinely nice. Mother before showed her affection but I know she was just forcing herself. However, I could see the sincerity from this couple. I smiled, and nodded. Their expressions lifted, and they jumped over me. We rolled on the wooden floors while laughing, and teasing each other.
My life with them was really gratifying. They showed me how I should live my life. They gave me everything I needed, and wanted. They fulfill their promised to me. Life was like a roller-coaster while I am with them during the past years. There are certain bumps on the whole ride, and I chose to enjoy those sillon with them. I grew up bathing with love. It was the best feeling ever, and that I could not ask a single thing from them because they gave their foremost endeavour.
I finally forgot what happened to my past. I finally forgot all those horrible nightmares that keeps me haunting at night. I finally achieved what I have been craving for the past years. I was thankful because they taught me how to shovel everything that planted a seed of darkness on my heart.
But, everything has a limit. You can't ride a roller coaster for the rest of your life. You also need to stop, and get off when you reach the end. Just like right now when I am standing right in front of their tombs while storm was hitting me. I wasn’t using an umbrella this time. I just let the rain run down my face, drenching my clothes.
Unfortunately for them they did not make it after being brought to the hospital. I gave all the savings for the medical care just to have them alive. I kneeled down right in front of them, begging and pleading to save their lives. However, life must be so unfair for me since they died at the same time while inside the Emergency Room.
“I am sorry, Ms. Gomez. Their condition was captious after the accident. We did everything we could…”
“But I am sorry, they did not make it.”
I was left there, alone in the middle of the hallway after telling me the news. I could not do anything but to cry, and cry until my body gave up on me, and passed out.
“Why did you have to leave me, huh?” I clenched my hand into a balled fist while staring down at their tombs. The sky roared. The lightning split on the land causing for it to shook its core. I did not falter because my attention is focused on them.
“I thought you guys love me? Then what is this? What are you doing there lying inside your casket, sleeping peacefully?” I clapped my hands.
“Wake up! I get it. You guys are probably tired. You can sleep back inside the house, not here.”
No response. Only the beating of my heart and the bellowing of the sky answered me. I closed my eyes as I kicked on the stone, not minding the pain that is seeping right through my system. I kicked, and punched the dirt until my brass knucks were bleeding. My whole body was benumbed from the pain. I could not take it anymore. I look up at the sky, and screamed at the top of my lungs.
“Why did you have to take them away from me?!”
My lips formed into an uncontrollable sobs when the atmosphere bellow again, and this time, it was louder as if it was yelling at me.
“I will never forgive you! NEVER!” I stood up, and walked away, limping, from that place. My vision was blurred from the tears while I drastically left there, and never return again.
