Chapter 58: Chapter 58

The rainfall didn’t stop from dropping as I kneeled down on the cold dirt, trying to hold her hand that keeps from falling off my hands. Tears were endlessly pouring down on my cheeks, begging and pleading for her to say something but nothing happened.

“N-nadine…please.” I bit my bottom lip to suppress my emotions from bursting. People were ogling behind, trying to take a look about the commotion here. They must have heard the gunshots earlier and they hurriedly went out to take a look. Even though there’s a storm and my whole body is already drenched and shivering from the cold.

“What do you mean we can’t report this from the higher ups?!”

“Ma’am, please calm down for a second. We made a terrible mistake here.”

I heard voices that were shouting behind but I couldn’t care what they are talking about. My attention is fixated on Nadine whose eyes were close. I didn’t mind the blood that is pooling on the front lawn. It was as if everything around me faded and the only thing I could see is my twin sister lying on the ground.

“Nadine, please stop joking. Please wake up.” I held her hand and stroke it on my cheeks. However, I didn’t received anything from her. Her eyes were peacefully closed. I did my best not to look down on her body. An immense dagger is penetrating right through my heart while I am trying to tap her cheeks to wake up. She can’t be gone. It’s too early. We’re still young. We have a lot of things to do and to achieve.

“We can’t let the higher ups know that we killed her. We’ll be put into danger.”

“That’s a monster for fucking sake! What kind of authorities are you?”

“M-ma’am, we know that but looking at her situation right now she changed back to her original body. They will not believe us that werewolves exist! Especially if we don’t have enough evidence-”

Someone pulled my arm, causing me to stand up on the ground when mother twirled me around so I could face cops who were responsible for my sister’s death. My eyes darken as I stare up at them from my spot. I couldn’t care if they are bigger compared to me or they have license and have experience. They killed Nadine. They tortured her. I will never forgive someone like them!

“Just look what she done to my poor and innocent Natasha. Isn’t this enough evidence?! The claw marks?!” she pointed where Nadine had accidentally slashed me earlier while shaking my body desperately, trying to convince the cops that the higher-ups needs to know about it and let the whole world know werewolves exist.

I clenched my hand into a balled fist when mother started to argue back and forth to the cops. I could see in the corners of my eyes that other people were taking pictures and recording the horrible scene here right in front of our house. I could feel my blood stewing from this point. How dare they interfere with our lives even if they don’t know anything that happened here! They don’t have the consent to take pictures of us!

I snatched my hands from mother then marched my way towards the bystanders who were whispering and talking about how a freak my sister is and how they suspect before that there is something wrong with her. My eyes shifted to wrath. I bent my body, aiming to took a lot of dirt, then threw it at them. Screams of disgust echoed throughout the whole area which also mean catching the cops attention.

“Natasha! What are you doing?!” she marched towards my way, scolding me to stop from hitting the citizens but I didn’t listen to them as I continued on what I am doing.

“Get away from here! You don’t know anything! You don’t know who my sister is!”

“Natasha! Stop that!”

“GET OUT OF HERE!”

I succeeded when everyone took off, running away in front of our lawn and leaving us but when I turned around, someone hit me causing me to flew away from the impact. It took me by surprise that’s why I didn’t dodge. I gasped and panted for oxygen while clenching on my chest. I heard the cops tried to stop mother from hurting me under the storm. The cops have dropped their umbrellas as they hold mother on her arms, telling her to ease it down when she yelled.

“Why did you let them get away?! They must have the evidence that your sister turned into a werewolf! We need to show it to the world how dangerous she is! We need to-”

“Enough, mother!”

Mother falls into silence when I shouted at her angrily for the first time. My chest was rising then falling rapidly as I gritted my teeth. All those years of hiding from her lectures and rebuke lead me into this. She doesn’t really care for me. She sees us as her pets that she can easily disdain if she had enough with one of us. I am not safe here anymore so  I slowly took a step back while shaking my head to her.

“Y-you’re a murderer, mother…” my lips formed into an uncontrollable sobs. Her eyes widen when I threw those words at her. It was as if something snap inside her when she spoke.

“What did you say?”

“You heard me. You’re a murderer! All of you! You killed an innocent child who didn’t do anything wrong to you! You don’t know what we’re fighting about earlier!” I looked at the officers who were dumbfounded.

“That lady you are holding had been beating us for the past years! She had been locking my sister inside a room, doesn’t feed her for days, and always beat her up!”

“How dare you throw accusations at me that aren’t true!”

“Shut up, mother! You adopted us just so you could dump your wrath issues at someone else! Did you see how her body is all beat up before you took her life! My sister is not a monster! You are!”

“I SAID ENOUGH!”

Mother then pushed all the officers that were holding her and rushed her way towards my spot. She jumped over my body then we both rolled on the dirt under the pouring rain. I winced in torment when she started to shake my whole body while her eyes were flaming. I could feel the thick tension rising as she screamed, losing her saneness.

“How dare you! I raised you! I love you, Natasha! I was always by your side all this time. Yet, you chose that horrible beast that hurt you earlier!”

“Ma’am! That is enough! The kid had enough!”

Mother, of course, did not listen to the cops as she shingle my shoulder violently.

“Stop saying those lies, mother! You don’t have any idea how Nadine respects you even though you are such a meanie to her! She love you despite your wickedness! Yet, you are the main reason why she’s dead! If she’s really a monster, then you should have been dead before!”

That’s when mother ceased from shaking my body. Her eyes widen when I said the last words. It was like an awaken for her as she slowly glanced from her shoulder to see where Nadine is.

“Ma’am?” the officers called her but she was lost in her own thoughts. Mother then slowly look down at her trembling hands while her eyes are getting teary. A droplet of rain trip on my cheeks, causing me to twitch my eyes.

Mother slowly crawled her way towards my sister’s body who looks pale and lifeless. I slowly sat on the ground ans the officers helped me. Regret and pain was evident in their eyes as they look at me apologetically after I had explain to them what is going on in our household. It’s a shocker since they listened to a kid like me. They lend their ears and comprehended everything.

However, everything is already too late. For the first time I saw mother grieved for Nadine’s body. It went like that for days. She remained in the front lawn, hugging my sister’s body. The officers who helped us before tried to make a burial for my sister but mother wouldn’t let them touch her body. Day and night she persist in the same position.

“What?”

Roger, one of the cops from last time, announced a news that befuddle me. I look at Robby beside him who nodded then gestured his hand.

“It’s for the best, Natasha. You need to have a new household to live by. The more you stay with your current adaptive parent, the more you will perceive how unstable she is.”

“You’re still young, yet, you have been through a lot. That’s why you need to move away from this place and forget everything that happened here. We don’t want to risk your mentality. There’s still life ahead for you and think all of those opportunities you will experience.”

Robby placed his hand above my shoulder then caressed it gently. I looked up at him.

“We don’t want to force you but think about it. It’s no longer safe to stay with her.”

“B-but…what will happen to her?” I asked.

“We decided to take her to an institution that will help her. You both need to go on your separate ways.”

It took me days to decide. It was really a tough choice for me since I somehow grew up in this place and mother had been good to me, but that’s not an excuse to neglect those horrible things she did to my sister. I can’t forgive her for that after all those good things my sister told about her. Nadine is my other half and now that she is gone, I feel like part of me vanished

To my only family I have.
