Chapter 21: Chapter 21

I shielded my body to protect Bobby from harm. They can take me away but not my poor innocent Bobby! They repeatedly kicked the door, persistent in getting inside! I looked around the area, searching for something that would help me knock out the intruder. I jumped in surprise when I heard a series of gunshots. I mentally cursed and cried inside, hoping that Ethan was okay down there!

I saw a vase, and I hurriedly caught it and prepared to smash it to the one who would get inside first!

“Stay back, Bobby! Mommy got this-”

The door swung open, and I was about to hit them with a vase when someone caught my hands, stopping me from smashing the vase on their head. I opened my eyes just to see Ethan in his usual form. I sighed in relief, immediately dropping the vase on the floor. It made a loud thud. It didn’t break. Ethan embraced me tightly in his arms. I couldn’t care if I was being covered with his blood. I am glad that he is safe!

“B-But how? I don’t understand….” I shook my head when I stepped back, looking at him from head to foot. Ethan smiled a little, caressing my cheeks.

“Do you remember the necklace?” he said lowly before walking past. He went to our closet and then grabbed a bag. He started to pack some things, and I quickly went to the door to lock it. However, before I could close it, someone immediately caught us here.

“They are here!” he yelled from the other side, and I quickly locked it before he could get in. I shrieked in panic when they started to bang the door to get inside.

“Move!”

I glanced at Ethan only to see him carrying the cabinet using his two hands! I was gaping at him but moved to the side to give him some space. Ethan dropped the cabinet in front of the door to shield it.

“Fuck… they caught us,” he muttered before running back to the bag to gather our things. Bobby was barking the whole time, and I carried him. I looked for a bag and put him inside, zipping until only his head was poking out to give him some air.

“What about the necklace?” I asked him, and he looked at me from his shoulder, sighing.

“It’s a protection. It keeps the curse inside me intact. I met my ancestors, and they gave me the necklace. They said it would help the beast to leash inside the necklace. I’m sorry if I lied and told you I don’t know about it.” he sincerely said before looking around. He went to the window and peeked his head out to see below.

“The coast is clear here,” he muttered before looking at me. He offered his hands, anticipating for me to grab them. I swallowed before taking it.

“It’s okay, Ethan. I know you’re pressured about your curse, and you might think that I won’t accept you even with your wolf form.” I gave him a warm smile.

“You do not have to worry about anything. Even if you are shaped like a monster,” I held both of his cheeks. My eyes were twinkling with adoration.

“I love you for who you are and what you might be. You always have me.” I mumbled before sealing his lips with a kiss. Ethan kissed me back with the same intensity before letting go.

“Let’s get out of this place,” he said, and I nodded. We both run towards the window. I caressed Bobby’s head before kissing it. This one is a little bit higher if we jump through it. Ethan was about to transform into his wolf form when the door burst open.

I squealed, and both of us glanced at the door to see who it was. My whole body went solid when our eyes locked for a moment. I could tell that he was anticipating this moment to happen. His hands were placed behind his back while his allies were aligned beside him in a straight and authorized position. They all salute in sync before giving the spot to their leader.

“Allen…” I breathed out when he took a step forward, looking back and forth to me and Ethan, who blocked his hands to protect me from him.

“Did you kill your brother down the basement?” Allen asked in a composed way. He raised his hand, signaling his troops to put down their guns. They all did what he asked.

Ethan did not say anything. He just snarled at Allen when he took a step closer to us. Allen ceased from his tracks, observing us with his lifeless eyes.

“I knew from the start that it was both of you surfacing around the media with the picture of the wolf and you, Ms. Natasha, or should I say Mr. And Ms. Duckstein?” he taunted with a smile before looking down at the ground, sighing in disappointment.

I was holding my breath, waiting for their next move. Allen had found out about it. I clenched my fist, blinking my eyes to remove the unnecessary tears forming in the corners. We lost this battle. After fighting so hard for our freedom, they finally caught us. They connected the dots, and we had no escape from the authorities.

“If you come with us, this chase will end here. Don’t worry. We aren’t going to do anything harm to this family. We are just going to put your husband here to trials and isolate you from him-”

“You will kill him!” I shouted before I could even finish my sentence. Ethan was shocked when I slapped his hands, blocking my body from moving forward. I hid Bobby’s head inside the bag before kneeling on the ground, pleading with my life.

His troops suddenly pointed their guns at me, and I heard Ethan’s voice behind. I know he’s worried something might happen to me, but I don’t care! Now that they all found out all of the evidence leading to us, it’s up to us to sort it out!

Allen raised his hand, alerting his companions to drop the gun, or they would lose their job. They all did what they were told. They all took a step back. Allen gradually kneeled down, leveling his face. I swallowed the lump in my throat when he pinched my chin, lifting up my face. Ethan made a noise behind me, but I raised my hand, telling him it was okay. One wrong move from him, and he’s a goner. We’re outnumbered, and Ethan will gain more crimes if he kills a Sergeant.

“What does it feel like to lose someone precious to you?” he whispered while caressing my cheeks. I bit my tongue, trying to form a sentence in my mind. I suddenly recalled the baby that I lost once. The memory itself made my heart throb distressingly. I look behind his companions only to see them all looking down at me.

“I-it’s painful…as if you’re being ripped apart and lose half of your-”

“-soul?” Allen asked, and I nodded. He sighed and then wrapped his arms around my shoulders. At first, I thought he would strangle me, but he leaned his face closer until our lips were inches apart.

“So, you do have an idea what it feels like. Then put yourself in those shoes your husband had killed.” he stood up, looking at the ceiling above.

“Hundreds of innocent lives were put on a period instead of a comma.” he sighed disapprovingly.

“Ever since I was a child, I was disciplined to bring judicature in our country. I was told that if I see a polar bear in a city killing a person, instead of running, retrieve the person’s body and kill the animal.”

“I know, it’s pathetic, right? Who on earth can kill a polar bear if it’s marked as one of the most dangerous animals?” he turned around, facing me once again. I gasped when he grabbed my jaw forcefully and dragged my face closer until our noses brushed against each other.

“But if you are going to look at it closely, will you let the polar bear run in the city to kill more innocent lives?” he asked significantly before letting go of my face. I wiped off my jaw before crawling back to Ethan, who helped me stand up. Allen stood there, all compelling and chesty.

“If you surrender yourself right now, we will close this case and put your lives at ease. Your husband will be safe with us.” he offered his hand, waiting for our answer.

I was about to say something when Ethan took a step forward. My eyes widened in fear when he raised his hand, gradually taking his offer. Is he serious? My heart pounded quickly when he took his hand, shaking it. Allen smiled at him, satisfied.

“NATASHA, JUMP ON THE WINDOW!”

Allen’s smile faded, and his expression shifted when Ethan transformed into a wolf and then slashed his hands. I covered my mouth in shock, but Ethan quickly looked at me, pleading.

“Hurry!” he yelled before facing Allen’s troop, who pointed their guns at Ethan. I wanted to protest, but I knew everything would turn out worst if I pried into the situation.

I did what he told me. I closed my eyes and then ran through the window, letting myself fall.
